Now this is an excellent instructional video. No nonsense...no unnecessary blah blah blah..to the point and explains everything along the way. Some of you folks on RU-vid that think they are making instructional videos should watch this and learn HOW to make instructional videos. Thank you.

@Ano Nymos actually.... There's a small white dot sticker on one of those housing Philip screws, says "warrenty seal" written on it. -DAMN. I already destroyed mine with Philip screw like in video....shoulda token a picture of it! -removed sheilds throw trash(stupid insulation traps heat from escaping to heatsinks!) -stock heatsinks= good (takes 1.5mm copper plate to feel same amount freezing from finger tips-heat sucked away....smaller sizes felt warmer compared to stock heat sinks)

Thanks! Mine got a switch that wouldn't stay clicked 'on'. I disassembled and put some deoxit inside the switch and seems much better now.

All of your questions answered about chips and antenna locations: web.archive.org/web/20190529193154/read01.com/BJ58JK.html Note that the 2.4GHz antennas are the four front-most antennas (front being where all of the status LEDs are) which also share the 5GHz band. The other four antennas are strictly for 5GHz only.

why do the areas in the heat sink look wet. Where is that coming from and why? Are the pads "melting"

Thanks for the video. Any idea which are the two 5GHz bands.

Im honestly not sure, I don't know too in dept about which processor or chips are for the 5G to see how they are linked and laid out on the board. Its entirely possible that all the antennas are capable of alternating and sending the 2.4 and 5GHz based off which the board and processors give signal to at a given time. So maybe there isn't just two selected for that purpose only since I didn't notice any different on any of the feeds or antennas.

After 22 Month (or before, it is a used device from ebay) sometimes the wifi from GT-AC5300 is dissappeared or authentification error etc.. A thermal problem? New device has arrived. But there is a ASUS warranty of 3 years. I can not open the device to pimp the cooling. Is there a security paint (at the screws...) etc.? I think there is no space for fans inside (?). My idea, 4x 80mm fan (1cm thicknes) on the 16x16cm field on the top of the device. Sucking the air through the "holes" (gaps at the side of the Slots, not a perfect design). It seems, the wifi chips are on the bottom side (antenne cables are connected at the bottom side). That's a pitty. And with fans at the bottom side, it is uncomfortable. It seems, at 3 sides of the board are space to the case. We could close the ventilation slots at the side and the whole area at the bottom without cooling elements (2) with tape or similar. Then the air flow that is sucked out of the top of the unit is forced along the heat sinks under the unit. 5V fans (~$2 from China) could powered by a USB port. But in future, I would connect a HDD/SSD and perhaps a printer. I coud use a cheap, small and passive USB-Hub. Also USB2 (for the fans and Printer, USB2 is OK). Strange: I find on Ebay no USB plugs for soldering. Something like that should be for a dollar (including shipping) to buy. I'll see if I find a broken USB cable from a smartphone or tablet. Often the small connector for the device side is defective.

I don't recall there being any security tape or any tamper indication tapes so as long as you did not damage it taking it apart, no one would know. And if a thin fan like that does not fit inside, you can install the fan from the outside to suck air in from bottom and one on top if you wanted to so it could help pull air out the top.

hi is there any way to add a few more holes on the top pice of the router so mor heat can escape
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews 4 года назад
Ya you can drill out holes but would be best to get a small fan and just mount it on top or bottom to generate airflow through the unit to cool it down. You can just buy a small external fan that plugs into a wall outlet and position it in a way to blow into or onto the router etc.
@ppal64
@ppal64 3 года назад
Ya. It’s called a drill - or even better a hole saw. If that fails use a sledgehammer

Anyone know the quality of those antennas? Like would it be helpful to replace them with 18 dBi aftermarket antennas?

It would require soldering knowledge since its soldered to the main board.

Is it possible to apply thermal paste instead of thermal pad? As in, will there be a gap due to the screw length and the now-missing thermal pads?

Is the oil traces normal?
@PBKreviews
@PBKreviews 3 года назад
Not sure. This was not a brand new unit but a 1 month used unit that was taken apart, but nothing was spilled on it and was kept in a dry area so if they use any sort of lubricant with the thermal pads or any parts internally then it should be normal from the looks of it.

@@PBKreviews I have several years old one and the 2.4ghz band is not working, not transmitting, sometimes very rarely comes on in guest mode but then permanently shuts off. maybe hardware or software fault.

@@PBKreviews When it does come on, it shuts off very quickly in 5mins, at first I thought it was heat issue but opened it up like you and added thermal paste here and there. Warranty is expired, the board may need a solder reflow, for now as I may use another 2.4ghz access point.

Thanks for showing the details of the board, obviously it looks as if there was some unnecessary components there as the mixture of little indian and big indian architecture of chips could have all had the same convention and we could have eliminated additional shift registrars thus reducing delays and extra computation and heat... Ok who am I kidding, why the heck is he showing us the board? I have no clue what I’m looking at.
