My gas cooker came and a friend did say it’s very easy....just like a light bulb 💡Push, twist and out ! And there’s Curry’s saying it’ll cost £85 just to have it connected 😒 thanks a lot....no one should get ripped off, no one....period! Stay Blessed 👊🏽

Mine is being delivered today, the told me if I don't have them install it my house insurance will be voided 😂 2021 and everybody is trying to have your pants down 😂

@@damo8754 your house insurance wont be void, but if anything hapens n you claim, if they find out it wasnt done by gas engineer then yes. But who will know?

@@user-lu8vq2qd9c I just used a generous once round the thread with lock tight glue, screwed it home, let it cure for 15 mins and then tested for any leaks with soapy water..... happy days.

Make sure you test the gas line before disconnecting and then test again after reconnecting

The wall connection is like that to make it simple for anyone to move and disconnect the cooker for cleaning, tiling or decorating etc. These gas pipes remain in the house, new cookers don't come with the pipe connected so, despite none of these comments mentioning or the person making the video, IT IS THE OTHER END OF THE PIPE, the threaded end that connects to the cooker that needs to be sealed properly, this is what you get charged for, not the push twist n turn bit!

Tape is no longer used by installers. Gastite sealant from a tub is used instead. Much better and safer.@@1951JULY

I suppose the only problem might be if one buys a used cooker and plugs that in there's no way of checking if it has any small leaks so kaboom when you light it as that needs special pressure testing equipment . If in social housing best plug it in the day you get the free gas safety check from the landlord as they legally have to check out the oven as well ;)

@@ciararespect4296 you would check for leaks using a few drops of washing up liquid mixed with tap water. Spray on joint and look for bubbles. If there's bubbles there's a leak. Use a jointing compound and there will be no leaks.

That leaves what is known as an openable end and if this disconnection is not carried about by a certified gas engineer you are not insured if you had a leak and your house caught fire or worse, exploded. That's why it costs money to just have a gas pipe disconnected. They will check it has been sealed and no leaks occur. Your choice.

tip for moving any appliance if you don't have a hand/truck lever and nobody to help. Depending on weight slip dismantled cardboard boxes (or even a thick newspaper at a push)under one edge or 2 feet, tilt to that side and drag. No marks on the floor and much less effort. Just a few card crumbs.

If you are replacing a gas cooker for an all electric you would need to cap off the gas. That fitting it now classed as an open end and could leak if the seal doesn’t close correctly.

Does the bayonet fitting not the hose have to be on the gas feed . Can you put the bayonet on the cooker it self as the cooker has shut of valve aswell when the glass is covering the hobs

The gas bayonet is designed so you don't need to turn the gas off, but make sure the supply pipe is properly sercured to the wall . This bayonet elbow pattern has been with us for 50 years plus so as long as you push up the nulled ring and twist an internal spring will push down and shut the gas off to the brass male fitting connected to the cooker flex. Reconnect in reverse order. This disconnect is only for short periods say for cleaning behind cooker and not for prolonged period .

I've watched many gas fitters fit cookers (moved house many times lol) and they have never switched off gas from the mains. Not even the yearly gas service never does that. But they do check for leaks around the connection for sure 👍 hope that helps.

You will need to cap the gas as leaving the bayonet like that is classed as an open end and they can leak if seal isn’t closed correctly.

my dads fitting the pipe to the cooker for me im getting on friday he was master plumber gas engenieere im moving house in 5 months and he said i can do as this video showed and were fine he preferes to cap them its a old habbit but not needed in new builds if you get a new cooker pay to have it installed as they attach the pipe to the cooker thats the part the gas engeneer has to do for legal terms if i read it right good video

No stopper needed. It’s when the connection pipe is pushed up and turned and then the other end to the gas cooker, when you turn your gas plates of grill or oven on then the gas comes through.

If you are moving the Cooker to another property and not installing nothing in its place why aren’t you capping off the gas? If you are a gas safe registered engineer then you would know that this bayonet fitting is now classed as an open end and you can’t leave it like that as there is a risk of the valve not closing correctly and causing a gas leak.

No the fitting is designed to self seal anyone can disconnect a cooker hose from this fitting but it is only for a short term removal so I e if you where pulling the cooker out for cleaning or having it replaced this fitting should not be left for a permanent disconnection as it can wear over time and leak gas .

You can try it and see! Unless it was installed in the 1940s they are designed to self shut off - there is a valve in the wall connector which closes when the hose is removed..

Silly question, but do you need to turn the gas off anywhere else before doing this, or is the connection designed to stop the gas flow as you discomnect Have to move my gas cooker soon to have new flooring put in and feeling a bit nervous 😂

@@firdowskalu1 i ended up capping it off with an approved gas safe. Its seen as an open end , although its seen as secure only having it capped is safe ( legally ) Kind of figured that for the money it was best to. Think it was about 60 notes to do it with registered guy

No it dosent but if your permanently disconnecting the cooker then best practice is to cap it off as theses fittings can wear after time and possibly leak

Firstly, shut off the gas at the mains before you do this. If someone is moving in an will be connecting anothrr cooker straight away, you don't need to cap it off. But if it is going to be left for some time you should cap it off.

Well as a new uk appliance needs fitting by a gas safe registered engineer and registering, your house insurance will be voided if you do it yourself and if there is a leak on any part of the installation you will be taking responsability for that too. Get an engineer to do the work as the risk far out weights the saving

It costs that much because it’s done properly by a gas safe registered tradesman who will test everything and make sure you don’t blow up your house or die horribly. Personally I think it’s worth the extra cash but I’m not suicidal. 😂
