If there is a soldered joint near the joint you want to remove, use a cloth, towel, any rag, soaked with water and wrap that joint. Heat that gets to the joint will be expended heating the water or steaming it. Of course, use caution in not torching the rag. It’s like having water in a pipe which you can’t solder because the heat is steaming the water and the joint can get hot enough for solder to melt.

I’ve had no luck in removing mine. The solder just won’t melt . Am I doing something wrong ? Or maybe there’s another way to remove it ?

If the solder won't melt, you might have water remaining in the pipe or your torch might not be getting hot enough. Make sure to drain the pipe fully and try again. You might want to consider a hotter torch, I like the Turbotorch TX500 series but Bluefire makes a great budget friendly option for occasional use.

You should use a torch that uses a hotter flame than common propane, like a MAPP (methylacetylene-propadiene propane) gas torches. MAPP comes in a yellow cannister.

My torch can use both fuel types. I usually use MAPP for larger pipe sizes and propane for smaller ones.

I believe MAPP gas isn’t made anymore; the yellow canister is MAPP branded canister and just a fuel not much different than propane. I haven’t researched it, but I’ve seen this from a credible source.

@@tonymanero5544 probably. I used MAPP maybe 25 years ago.

@@tonymanero5544Your right, true MAPP gas was discontinued in 2008 when the last North American plant closed.

You can reuse solder fittings if you clean them up but it is not recommended as new fittings are inexpensive.

What is solder machine do you use ?

Just a normal propane or MAPP gas torch. I recommend TurboTorch, they are high quality but expensive. I bought mine from a local plumbing supply store.

It's not so easy in out door faucet, where usually the 1/2" copper pipe broke at the soldering point and needs cutting and replumbing!?

Why not heat up the solder on the pipe and wipe it off to get to bare copper instead of sanding
@DragonBuilds
@DragonBuilds Год назад
That works too! I usually wipe the solder and sand off the rest.

The more solder you can remove the better but it's hard to remove. It's a lot of extra work that you don't really need to do as long as it's prepped properly.

Anymore, mapp and propane gas are virtually the same as true mapp gas was banned in 2008

Modern "MAPP" (often sold as Map-Pro), is actually propylene which does burn hotter than propane.
@tonymanero5544

@@DragonBuildsbe careful that MAPP gas is being sold as a brand rather than a mapp fuel. If there’s a hotter burning fuel, it’s likely a pro sourced canister that is sold for $10 in improvement stores.

@@tonymanero5544 You can buy "Modern MAPP" from Bluefire which claims to burn as hot as the original MAPP gas, I might make a video about it soon.
