I plan to store the car in my detached garage where it might get below freezing. Should I take the battery completely out and store it in my house?

Hello and thanks for the comment. Lead acid batteries do not like temperature fluctuation and vibration much. It is a little ironic if you consider where most manufacturers place the battery... my suggestion would be to remove it and store it where temperatures will be fairly stable - also place it on tip of a block of wood, as opposed to directly on the floor. Wood block or a wooden shelf will isolated the battery from the floor, which will further regulate temperature fluctuations. Stay away from cement or metal. Hope this helps?

Thanks for this informative video. I think I know the answer after reading your other responses, but this is a slight variation of what others have asked. Can I simply remove/disconnect the negative battery cable from the frame instead of from the battery? On my 1969 Corvette, it can be difficult to get the cable back onto the battery, whereas I have a car lift and can much more easily remove it from the frame.

Thanks for the comment James. Yes absolutely. The objective is to just break the circuit. Keep in mind that you might have several earth straps, some of which may connect direct to the battery. In this case the circuit won't be broken and the battery will still run down

After removing the negative cable, do I need to wrap the negative cable and the negative terminal with plastic to avoid any sort of issues?
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 2 года назад
Hey Mathew. Thanks for the comment. No you don't, this is why we remove the negative. Just tuck it neatly away from the terminal so it can't accidentally touch again. That's it 😁

Will the battery will drained out If only negative is disconnected and Positive is connected with the car.
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 3 года назад
Once negative is disconnected, there is no circuit, so the battery won't drain. Many cars have multiple systems connected to the positive terminal, so they are more hassle to disconnect

If we remove both terminals then is it ok to save battery from drainage ?
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing Год назад
Hi. Yes you can remove both, but it is no different from removing only one. Only time I would recommend that, is if you wanted to take the battery out and store it in a better place. This is when your car maybe will stand outside or the battery will have major temperature fluctuations.

Hey will this reset the computer of the car and cause any problems later when restarted ? I own a honda 2.0 10th gen
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 2 года назад
Hi Wasay. If you have errors in the c9mputer now, this might reset momentarily. If the problem that caused the issue still exist, it will come back though. Disconnecting the computer for a long period will not affect the car's normal operation in any way. It is safe to do so.

I disconnected the negative cable from the negative terminal of the battery, however my car is stored/parked outside and it is usually hot outside. Is it okay i leave the battery there or should I store it in my house under a wooden cabinet or storage?
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 2 года назад
Hi Benedict. Batteries typically do not like extreme temperatures. If you have more than 15 degrees Celsius variation, I would consider storing it where the fluctuations are less. Definitely keep it away from below 10C and above 30C. Hope that helps

@@benedictgutierrez3822will the car still draw power if the positive is connected . Or disconnecting the negative is enough and the battery can hold its charge for atleast six months
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing Год назад
Once the negative is disconnected, there is no circuit, so no current. Battery should last 6 months, unless the battery is already faulty and has an internal short, in which case it will slowly drain, but because it is a bad battery,, not because of the positive wire.

Im planning to leave my car for 5 months is it possible?
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 3 года назад
If the battery is fully charged and you can keep it in a temperature controlled space, you could actually make that work. Lead acid do not like temperature fluctuation and vibration. You should never store the battery direct on bare floor or a steel shelf... such as the one where its installed in the car... the nest way is to disconnect the battery, store it on a wooden shelf and connect a trickle charger.

@@We-R-Racing where i live the temperature is around 9 - 20 degrees Celsius do I still have to take the battery out of the car ? Or i can just disconnect negative pole and leave it in the car ?
@We-R-Racing
@We-R-Racing 3 года назад
@@thabetiann5566 yes that temperature range should be fine. Do consider getting a trickle charger if possible. There is a huge difference between a normal and trickle charger - the latter keeps the battery conditioned - just check if you decide to go that route

Indeed you can yes. Only 1 pole needs yo be disconnected to release the circuit. Batteries do not like temp variation though. See of you can store it in some sort of stable or temp controlled place
