Dogs produce more than 67 million pounds of poop in the U.S. every single day - so how do you make your dog’s sh*t less wasteful?

Dog owners in the U.S. throw out more than 24 billion pounds of dog poop every year - that's sh*t that goes to the landfill (often in or near predominantly Black and brown communities), releases methane, and contributes to climate change.
If dog poop is composted though, it produces less greenhouse gas emissions and returns nutrients to soil, and much more.

Dog and cat waste is pretty toxic in terms of pathogens. Getting the compost to a high enough temperature to kill those toxins is pretty important. Seems like NYC program is doing that. Thanks for sharing.

Search for videos on DIY dog waste digesters. I put 2 in my backyard last fall. The waste breaks down underground. No more sending dog poo to the landfill. :)

@@firerose7936 I watched pretty much all the videos and combined their suggestions with a tip I read in an article -- wrap the can in sediment filter (I found it at Lowes. It's for use in French drains and keeps dirt from creeping into your cans) I went with two 20-gallon Brute trash cans and I'm wishing I had gone a size bigger cuz they can't keep up with two 60-pound dogs so I'll be adding a third can. I've started using Doggie Waste Digester (Amazon) in one and Ridx (Walmart) in the other to see which one works faster but it's too early to tell just yet.

not gross subject at all.... : why no use of worms (vermiculture)? the tailings from worms is nutrient rich : can a simple grinder be made using electric drill & paint mixer attachment? wouldn't this allow use of compost bags as it is mechanically broken down? : loose stools cannot be picked up w/paper

I think about doing this for the cat waste. We use the biodegradable litter, but it goes to a landfill in plastic bags. We compost kitchen scraps and leaves for the veg garden, but I wouldn't want to use the cat waste there. I've thought about putting it somewhere in a big wooded area in the backyard, but I worry about any toxins that might get released to the wildlife in the area if they dug it up and/or ate it. Anyone have any ideas?

Great video! Please do an episode on nuclear energy! France powers 75% of its power grid with nuclear energy and all of the waste they have produced from it fits into a football stadium (which is very small for a country of 67 million). The US has a bunch of nuclear waste sitting around in places like Yucca Mountain. It is a great 20-40 year solution to climate change to be used in unison with other sources of renewable energy like wind, solar, tidal/hydro, waste-to-energy, etc.

@@codycow2637 Because you're polluting and smelling up the streets just leaving it there, and on grass it can kill the grass not turn into fertilizer. You'd have to bury it, which means digging up the grass. But I'm sure just burying in just regular compost is okay, but just as this lady said not compost for food. It can be toxic. Allegedly dogs and cats are created hybrids so it's why their poo is not good natural fertilizer and considered detrimental leaving it in surface.

Addressing these issues needs to treat our pets inside out treatment naturally. There is a solution naturally and organically safe, fast and clean. Sources can be found in super market or in your kitchen, not baking soda or any other chemical based compound. Let me know if you are interested I will teach you for free. Let us help each other.
