Same here, after watching this.. I actually put this vid into one of my favorites since i will be in the VFT hobby for a while.. He did it with such confidence that i really don't mind doing it to my expensive cultivars and clones that just exploded into my small tiny pots after two years lol
I just got my plants delivered today and I am so impressed with the quality! So glad I bought from you and not somewhere like amazon 😒 Thanks so much!!
Is it just me or 90% of people commenting here are professional carnivorous plant growers. Know it all's springs to mind. This guy makes a living from these plants how many of you do?
I love your channel, its brilliant and really informative. I also love your shop, I've bought many plants from there and they're all gorgeous and thriving, particularly my Jonesii which is a beast now and feeds all the time!
Possibly the best video on this subject I've seen so far! Very informative, excellent demonstration and straight to the point. Ps,where in the uk can I buy Venus flytrap compost? And I don't buy anything online so shops only please.
Hallo sir, how many high they can grow and how many big for the a leaf for venus your are footage.... How about sun, full sun ? After repot... I mean how to care after you repot for adaptation a while until they are healthy again... Sorry my english not really good sir... Thanks have a nice day...
Thank you for this video... i am going to save it in my favorites to return to it later... i bought a VFT this summer and it is planted in solely spaghnum moss... is that ok or do i need to repot into a peat and perlite mix?
I've heard they need cooler temperatures for winter dormancy. Do they still need a lot of light during this time? I was thinking of moving mine from my windowsill out into my shed for the winter as that would be much cooler, but wouldn't have much light.
Hello!! very nice video!! I had a plant do de same when i did a re-pot earlier this year, yet they were still attached to each other...i left them be, should i have "broken" them apart, or wait a little longer so they can separate for themselves?
I accidentally snipped off some new growth a very small little head. Trying to clip off a old black head. Is this going to stress out the plant to much or do I not have anything to worry about.??
Interesting video and verry educational, nice job Can you tell me please what are the components in the compost soil for venus flytrap ? Because i ordered some seeds and i want to plant them but not any soil is good. Thank you !
Hi Sir, Thank you for the video it was brilliant. I would just like to know how do you keep those small traps alive? Like the bigger ones are fine but I struggle with the smaller ones, any suggestions?
thanks for the video and the nice tips! I have a really tiny flytrap that came from a seed last year and i have it in a pot alone with a drosera cos , and I was seeing it getting worse... I am going to put it in a smaller pot, even thou I dont find them so i think i will have to use a yogurt or something smaller. Is that pure peat moss or is it mixed with perlite?
@Just Me Sounds like the heat and rain is perfect conditions for growing, as the Venus Flytraps needs a lot of water and a lot of sunshine to grow. However, they can only grow in sterile soil, like the nutrient-poor soil you get in peat bogs. The water has to be either filtered or rain water and there needs to be enough that the soil is always moist. I’m making a video of how I grow my seeds I will upload it tomorrow to help you
I actually like that tight they are. Don't in the wild, them growing like that is normal? And how are they surviving in reach soil? That's not peat moss.
Just me, I haven't had any luck from seed either but a quality small VTP I have found is the way to go. I will continue to try from seed but having one or two that have been started and nurtured by someone more knowledgeable at the time than me concerning VFT's was just the thing for me.
Seeds need heat and light to grow and they need filtered or rain water. I have successfully started seeds in old jam jars. The jar acts like a mini greenhouse, trapping heat which the seedlings need to germinate. Also, not all seeds germinate and even the ones that do take a good 3 weeks to sprout. I’m growing mine in the winter, so they started and ready to feed by spring.
Every time the traps close, it weakens that leaf and will eventually die. It's not good to constantly make all the traps close, they should only be triggered when eating.
Nano Experiment, use a 3-to-1 mixture of 100% professional grade sphagnum peat moss - to 1 part perlite. Sunshine brand peat is the best and widely used by most all of the good carnivorous plant nurseries. NEVER use Miracle Grow soil blends. They're fortified with fertilizers that will kill ALL carnivores, and quickly. Two of the online nurseries I buy from have pre-blended soil blends that are fool proof. I buy all my soil blends from California Carnivores or SouthBay Traps. I've spent about $1,500 on carnivorous plants between both nurseries and I guarantee you that you won't be disappointed. They're both really good, amazingly healthy plants, phenomenal customer service, immaculate packaging, processing and shipping is always multiple days early.
probably hurt. VFT roots are very sensitive to any additives or nutrients in the soil. they can't even really tolerate tap water so i'd assume its probably too strong a chemical for them.
Venus Flytraps originate from the marshy and bog regions of North & South Carolina on the East coast of North America. There are little to no nutrients in the soil they grow in, as the nutrients have been washed away by the water in the boggy habitat. Therefore, the plant has adapted to source it's nutrients from insects. The pads (or mouths as I call them) contain (usually three trigger hairs) on each side of said pads. Once an insect lands on these pads and stimulates the trigger hairs, along with a sticky secretion which traps the insects, the pads will close, trapping their prey. They slowly dissolve the unfortunate prey and this is how they feed and are able to survive. If you own or are thinking of buying a venus fly trap, please don't try to stimulate the pads (mouths), as each one can only open two to three times, after which, the individual pad and leaf will die. If it is fooled into thinking it has caught prey, it will close and with nothing to digest, it will die off!
People really don't have the critical thinking to think maybe when he says compost he doesn't mean the one thing everyone knows not to give carnivorous plants
Hurts to watch. Thats a very stressful process for them and hes doing it so rigorously. The more careful you are and the faster you do it the better it is for the plant
