One of the most basic beginner hairstyles out there--a must for everyone! But how to achieve a nice smooth high ponytail that is the foundation for cute braids, buns, and curls? I get questions quite frequently on how to do it--especially since my youngest (in the video) LOVES ponytails. It's her request EVERY day for everything. "Mom, please, can I just have a ponytail?" She is far too busy to have mom take the time for anything else 😂....as you can see quite clearly in this video. Even sitting still and saying hi and bye are a drag for her 😜. Ha ha! We hope you get a laugh and learn something useful from our tutorial!!

For this hairstyle you will need:
2 minutes or less
1 hair tie or elastic
brush or comb
water bottle (we use to smooth down flyaways)
hairspray

Well my friend, try some good thick ponytail elastics. If you can get it nice and tight, it should stay in quite nicely for you!! I like the Goody elastics. Fingers crossed for you!

The most annoying thing is when your hair tie or bobble is too lose when you put it around your ponytail twice. But your hair tie won't stretch enough to go around three times

It’s so hard for me, I’m 11 and my hair is super curly and thick. My mum always does my hair in a high ponytail, at school I always wear it up and it looks amazing. But, I have school camp in 20 weeks and I still don’t know how to tie it up, my mum says that I need to learn but I find it so difficult. It always has bumps and looks terrible. I’m scared to tie my own hair up for school because the other students will see how messy it is. I don’t know what I’ll do at camp because my mother won’t be there and I don’t want to ask anyone for help because all of the other girls can tie their hair and it’s super embarrassing that I can’t.

What a precious, little girl (Those blue eyes!!!). I just can't seem to do even the most basic thing like this. My arms get super tired before I can get the ponytail just right. I was a tomboy with two older brothers, & no sisters, had long hair most of my life, & never could do much with it (to this day).

I tell ya- I feel for you! And thank you! And don't stress- remember your ponytail doesn't have to be THIS high or even THIS smooth. My ponys never are because my hair is curly. Do what works best for you and sore arms are NEVER required! I have to make it look as good as possible for the video! 😂

I really just use hairspray around the head......and I'll use Braid Cream when I do wet braids....that's all though. I often redo her pony if we are going somewhere and she's all crazy hair head. 😂

Thats a good option! You can also use aerosol hairspray around the base of the pony, then you don't have to get it wet and it smooths quite nicely. Best of luck!

I had surgery on my right shoulder last week and will be in a sling for eight weeks. My husband has been wonderful about taking care of me, but, OMG, you should see him trying to put a ponytail in my hair - hilarious! Even my 21-yr-old son who has long hair that he wears in a low ponytail is only a tiny bit better. I don’t even need the front to be smooth - just want him to understand how to brush the hair up into your hand and how to wrap the scrunchy. Thanks!

Yes, definitely! Kudos to you for stepping up! And with curly curly hair, I wouldn't try to make it smooth....just even and without hair being pulled up in a way that the scalp shows. Curly ones are easy!!

My daughter is 2years old, and wow this is hard, to put into perspective im a builder that can build anything you can imagine but i cannot A) Get her to sit still for longer than 10 seconds B) get all of the hair to the same place.
