Liked seeing a demo on a house that has a lot of surprises. Makes it much more practical than watching a video where everything is as expected. Easy to learn a lot more about things to look out for when taking on something like this.

It would be great to video a "nightmare" house from start to finish. We are renovating a rental property right now and actually it is a barn conversion that is in better shape than some modern houses we have purchased in the past. Well the 2x4 joists are scary...but I'm sure the inspector will catch that next week. Then again, back in the day it was a barn and not designed to hold granite counters and a stone fireplace...

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I always wonder when I watch demo's on tv why they make such a mess for themselves. I took off my hood vent this fall and what a mess, the wires were wrapped with duct tape, the ground wasn't connected. You would chuckle if you saw the plumbing in my kitchen. I bought this house from a contractor believe it or not, lots of hidden treasures.

As for TV, people forget it is "entertainment". While I would love to watch a guy with a tool belt all day, it is not very exciting to the other 90% of viewers....I remember in my parents house, when father renovated he found the wall sconces taped with scotch tape (not even electrical or even duct tape!) And the light fitting almost fell on my head one day from the ceiling, missed my by inches, talk about a brown trouser moment! While I am an enthusiastic amateur and semi skilled DIY'er, I do like to read up as much as I can before I attempt anything. My father worked for a construction company for many years and was very handy, that helped growing up...

Totally relatable I just got a house that was pre owned by a contractor and it was the sloppiest work u had ever scene Nothing was up to code or inspected Literally it looked liked a child remodeled the house No in fact my 5 year old son could do a better job I am honestly surprised the house didn’t burn down or fall down

In a demolition like this, do you (or the homeowners) ever donate the cabinetry or appliances to someplace like Habitat for Humanity? Even if the cabinets are past their shelf life, those knobs and hinges look pretty ok.

Videos more like this please! Do you have any advice on gutting a basement space? (no natural light) Wondering if we are better off re-locating the existing electrical panels and set up temporary lights first so we can also rip off all the old electrical wires. Thanks!

That wire just being in the Cold Air Return is more Dangerous than the staples you were talking about. Effectively if there were an animal or something down the road that caused the wire to get hot, and if it got hot enough to start a fire, the return would feed that fire Air. I know it is against my Local Electrical code.

Found it informative on disabling cabinets, walls, and plumbing. Could have used more information on appliances removal like electric vs gas stove and any other tips and tricks to it safely. Could you show how to set up the air vacuum seal? New to this dust free concept. I have never seen it done and how it works. You said it takes half hour to set up please show how to set it up, use it, and take it down? Learning a lot. Some day I want buy and renovate my fixer home. Also like to know what tools are best to own ( new vs used) and which ones are better to rent? Also good to know model and brand and cost too? Thank you.

I hung a tiffany lamp in my dining area in my apartment. The previous light fixture wasn't grounded. The wire was shoved up in the box.

Why do you have to remove the drywayll? Is it because the design of the kitchen was changed? I thought you could remove the cabinets, appliances with removing the drywayll.

I don't know how I got here but I hope this is a series to the bitter end of the remodeling job. Speaking of the staples holding the electric wiring, I have that in the cellar and I wonder if the whole place is done in the same way, there is no way I am tearing down walls

Very good. I wish you would go over stuff more, but it's great as is. I wasn't expecting the roasting on the "electrician". You did not hold back except on the cursing lol. Are those boys on the crew your kids? And also, good on you for being light on them but also you gotta push them more

Did you test drywall joint compound for asbestos? My house was built in 1970 and has 2% Chrysotile in joint compound. From asking around, seems like the vast majority of people wouldn’t even question it/test for it and would assume nothing like that was there.
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 6 лет назад
NO! I am not concerned with the presence of 2% of the not harmful type. You are being a little too careful !

I'm waiting for results from a sample in our original bathroom from 1968 prior to tear down. Rather be on the safe side with two little ones in the house. I will be using negative air pressure with a hepa filter, a respirator and sealing off the rest of the house regardless of asbestos or not but its peace of mind knowing if its present or not.
