@@ebonyashanti That verse is not commanding you to love yourself. It’s implying you already love yourself by nature and you are to love others as you do yourself. The golden rule. We know it’s not a command because Jesus said he’s giving 2 new commands, love God and others as yourself. If He was commanding us to love ourselves, then that would be 3 new commandments. It’s not 3 because the “as yourself” you already do very well each and every day. 2 Timothy 3:2 [2] For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, We see Paul states self love is sin.
Besides caring for others I definitely need to practice self compassion and kindness so I can appreciate and see myself the way that God doesn't. Self hated doesn't feel good, healthy and uplifting at all. Going to therapy to heal from severe childhood trauma is very important.
@@Stormfal Many Christians fall into the trap of thinking we must “love ourselves” before we can properly love others. This however is not biblical. Love is a choice not a feeling and everyday we choose to love ourselves. Everyday we feed our bodies, care for our selves, or attempt to do things we believe will make us happy, this is loving yourself. Self love is part of human nature, we already do it naturally. The Bible states no one ever hated their flesh (Ephesians 5:29). This misconception of self love being commanded in the Bible comes from a bad interpretation of scripture. One verse would be in Matthew 22:39 “And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” As previously stated, “as yourself” is implied we already love ourselves naturally. Jesus was commanding us to love God and others as we already do for ourselves. If Jesus commanded to love ourselves, which we already do naturally, then that would make it 3 commandments instead of 2 he gave. Matthew 22:40 “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets”. Another false teaching is “we can’t love others properly until we learn to love ourselves properly”. This is not biblical as well. Our source of love is not self, it is God (The Holy Spirit working within us). We love because He loved us first (1 John 4:19). We must take our focus off our selfish ways and become selfless focusing on Gods ways to properly love others. People confuse self love with self esteem, biblically speaking. Self love is a choice we make daily for ourselves, self esteem is a feeling about ourselves. We know this because love is a choice not a feeling. How do we fix this self centered problem that leads us to feeling inadequate, insecure, and unworthy? We place our identity in Christ. We remove “self” and become selfless. Jesus called us to deny ourselves and follow Him. We must become a new creation in Jesus and find our worth in Him. We no longer have to worry about self esteem or confidence issues, since we now have God esteem and Godfidence (made up words but you get the point).
Everything was well said! really loved this! ❤Been living without TV for a few years now it really makes a HUGE difference on your personal life when you filter out all the negative noise from the world
I was feeling really down on myself & then I rear ended someone & my car had to be towed. I’ve been feeling like trash since then. Really needed this video. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, Melody. God bless you! ❤️ I put your self-esteem video in my watch later playlist awhile ago, because I’ve been really struggling with feeling hateful towards every, little thing about myself constantly, even my words in my prayer time with God. Anyway, I just found your new video through the first one you’d made four years ago, and that certainly feels like a sign! I thank you, sister, because I really feel God used you to get his words through to me ❤️🙏 I hope you’re well!
I’m so thankful God led me to this video. I am grateful for the living water of your encouraging words. I pray God continues to bless you and everyone else watching.
Thank you a lot. Actually, I love your video, how you talk, that really inspired me to love yourself more and my neighbors, and God and I'm over the moon that I watch your video. Thank you again. Love you sis.
I thank God for letting me find this beautiful video made by this beautiful soul. It feels like this video was made just for me at this exact moment in my life. Melody, I wish I could just give you a hug right now. I feel so many things right now, I don’t know how to put them into words, but thank you for your guidance and encouraging words. I am very excited to begin my own journey of self love. ✝️💟☮️
Oh Wow, it makes me feel so deeply blessed to hear that. I'm so encouraged! May God guide you through your SELF LOVE journey...and mend you up for his glory!!!
Wow, thanks so much for all your encouraging words and for providing so much scripture!! I just came from your previous self love video and am so excited to apply these tips within my own life so I can begin my self love journey! I think I’m most looking forward to learning how to control the voices I listen to, because of all the influences that are found on social media and what society says, I know this one might be the most difficult for me, but I’m excited to see how God enables me to overcome❤️
I'm standing in faith with you that God will reveal YOU to YOU as you go on this journey and that you will know that you are ALL TOGETHER Perfect in His sight!! Sending you love!!!
6:13.... This video is powerful. Honestly.. I love the human being that showed up at 6min 13 seconds n that love envelope.... 💅 As I continue watching.... Thank You Example, Thank you model. Thank you for laying down your life coz your voice is so easy for me to listen to.... Continue. The songgggggg❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very nice points that you spoke about! But how can we share love when you have said that we can distance ourselves from certain people? We share love only with people that we want? Jesus said that there is no difference between a tax collector and a follower of Christ if the Christian only loves those that love him. We cannot both keep away from certain people who do not agree with us or hurt us, and share love at the same time. We are asked to love and pray for our enemies even if that is extremely hard because God will give us the strength to do so.
absolutely true girl...thank you for these encouraging words...now I understand that in order for us to be able to love others is figure it out how to love ourselves too..its like when youre in an airplane, in a circumstance, you put your oxygen mask first before putting oxygen mask on others...thank you mam!..🙏🙏❤️❤️
Thank you for your beautiful, generous way of lavishing us with holy wisdom! I love listening to this whole video. When you talked about the importance of rest, I felt a clear sense of Jesus speaking to me through you. I have a mountain of very challenging work which is crucial for my life, and you helped me gently let go of some workaholism and the excess fear behind it, and shift to an inner place of divine love, abundance, faith and dignity.
Great thing you're doing. I saw your first video and was very moved by it. It was pure, unadorned and went straight to the heart of the matter. Now, the more things you have going on in your video...the more the brain has to engage with and for me that equals distraction. In the first video your hair was "natural" which "felt" less self-conscious for you and I believe that transmitted to your viewers. Your hair, now lying down, seems hidden out of self-consciousness, which you basically express. It's interesting. I'd rather not have my mind engaged by the brand of music in the background, but allowing that mental space to be open to reflection on the scriptures you mention or any other thoughts the Holy Spirit brings to mind. IMO, you really don't need any of the things that you consciously added for "production value", because now it feels "produced" and not "in the moment", open and "natural". Just my opinion, based on 50+ years of life and experience. I'd also like to add that we can't know how to properly love ourselves until we understand how God loves us and how He loves Christ. Then we need to accept and embrace that inexhaustible love for ourselves. After that we should understand it a crime to love ourselves any less than God loves us. God bless you. I wish you the best.
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. “This is the first and great commandment. “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:37-39).
@@HouseOfHostingHeaven exactly how can you love your neighbor when you don’t love yourself? Many need to heal from a lot of things so we don’t bleed on others.
