Hi Thank you for this I just thought there was the one way to cast on I will give this a try, In one of you videos you said your Addi counter was not working properly, when mine played up I give it a good wipe on the top with a Tumble Dryer Sheet as it is anti static and it worked, every now and then I give it a wipe and I have had no problem since, you may already know about it but I thought it was worth a mention just in case you hadn't, thanks again for the video. This is a great video! I tried to make a flat panel and the edges either wouldn't catch or were real loose and uneven. I didn't see instructions before this video telling me to put the end yarn under the red little flipper. I love the e-wrap and how you fixed the cast off edge! Thanks for the tutorial!

can you do this perchance with a drop stitch pattern. I have a pattern where I seam 2 tubes using the ladders from dropped stitches and this would be a nice cast on for me to incorporate.
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 6 лет назад
Yes, Teri, I think this would work for a drop stitch pattern. One stitch of the e-wrap cast-on uses the same length of yarn as a normal stitch, so when you drop the column of stitches, you can also drop the cast-on stitch at the bottom and it will just look like a regular dropped stitch. That will not unravel the cast-on stitches on either side of the dropped one. Hope this helps! Thanks!

When would you use e wrap cast on over a long tail cast on?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 года назад
The long tail cast on is the equivalent of an e-wrap cast on + 1 row of knitting, so they are pretty much interchangeable. It really just depends on which technique you find easier to work. I hope this helps!
@stephaniewukovitz2822
@stephaniewukovitz2822 Год назад
Four different yarns of three gauges (aran worsted, 2 x dk/worsted, sport), 16+ hours of many efforts for each yarn, made sure to push each loop down, could not convince all needles to let go of the 'e' on the second time around despite being careful to push each loop down as shown. I still have about a week to return my (Addi King) machine for a full refund in case that's the issue, although it works beautifully with the simple in-out alternating cast-on shown in the included instructions. Maybe continuing to use waste yarn will be worth it in my case? Ditto for long tail cast on, btw. I have done both successfully on a loom (wanted to see if I was somehow making a mistake on the wrap or something). My hands get super itchy when I work with acrylic yarn, ditto the rest of my body for *wearing* anything with acrylic, so I'm working with Cascade superwash 100% wool or merino wool yarns -- if that's the problem here (?), then this cast on probably isn't for me. (I've tried two Addi Express Pro machines, both of which had defects (not related to this issue) and had to be returned to the seller, so perhaps I'm a little too inclined to blame the company's quality control in this case as well? :) )
@stephaniewukovitz2822
@stephaniewukovitz2822 Год назад
(to be clear, the issue I'm having is NOT your instructions, which are extremely clear and the equivalent worked great for me on a loom)
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn Год назад
Have you tried adjusting how much tension you put on the yarn as you feed it into the machine? The wool yarns should work just fine, but this video shows how to get a feel for how much tension is needed for the yarn to work well in the machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lv4W1OhmuJc.html I hope this helps!

Now I can attempt to make stuffed animals for my friends. I’ve been trying to figure out what this stitch looks like and how to make it on my machine for hours. The pattern I’m following calls for it and I’m new to knitting so I have no idea what I’m doing really.

Hello I’m new to the circular knitting machine and I hope someone could help me with so information Does the digital counter better that’s the mechanical counter in the addi express ? Or both of them fine and give the right count of rows?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn Год назад
I have not used a machine with a mechanical row counter, but I have found that the digital row counter skips sometimes. It is not always accurate. So if you have the option to choose a machine with a mechanical row counter, I would imagine that a mechanical counter would be more accurate. I hope this helps!

I want to make a poncho, a cardigan that is lacy, shirts and socks. Is it possible with both the addi knitting machines? I want them to be cute and not unstylish. I want to make more then hats and scarfs. I have yet to buy a machine because I want to really make many things. This was very helpful and encouraging.
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 лет назад
Hi Linda! You can make plenty of other things besides hats and scarves. Keep in mind that when you are using this machine, the needle size cannot be changed. So when you are using thinner yarns, it's like you are still knitting with the same size needles as if you were using #4 worsted weight yarn. So, if you make socks, they either have to be made from #4 worsted or #5 bulky yarn, or else the will be very open and full of holes. If you make a sock with sock yarn, the knitting will be pretty loose, and your socks will be see-through. So the socks made on this machine are more like slipper socks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h8XUgBk1pcI.html Simple lace or eyelet designs are possible with this machine, but not anything complex. I also have a video on making a custom-fit simple shaping sweater with the Addi machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CWPCH75QT20.html I think the difference between stylish items from these machines and unstylish ones have to do with the choice of yarn and finishing techniques. Choosing nice quality yarns in stylish colors can help. The techniques used can make a project look rather sloppy and homemade, or neat and professional. So, yes, you can make other types of projects, and they can be stylish and cute. I hope this helps!

I bought the cheaper knitting machines to play with... if I really get into it I will give those to grand daughters and buy the addi’s or who knows what will be on the market next... maybe a true sock knitting machine that isn’t complicated or to expensive.😊

I tried to do it according to the video and the thread is stretching. What could be wrong?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn Год назад
If you do the e-wrap cast on, the edge of the finished piece will be looser than the rest of the knitting unless you go back after working a few inches of knitting and tighten up the edge. It is important not to pull the yarn too tight as you work the cast on on the machine as well.
@sl42525
@sl42525 4 года назад
This is probably a really dumb question, but how did you cast off on this panel you made in the video? Is it a permanent cast off?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 4 года назад
Hi Sarah! I like to use this method for a permanent cast off: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M-PY09vYdok.html It's just like a regular hand-knit cast off, but done with a crochet hook. I hope this helps!

So tried this today - going to make your one layer brim hat for a nephew because I hate those bulky tops on the tube hat. Its was so tight the first full row after the cast on. Normal? or did I just put it on too tight?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 года назад
Hi Krista. If the cast on row is tight, it may be that your cast on was too tight. You could try casting on more loosely. Then, if you think the cast on edge looks way too loose, you can tighten it slightly after your piece comes off the machine according to the video. I hope this helps!

Hi, i always watched your videos but still curious which part is the front and the back?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 6 лет назад
Hello! The E-wrap Cast On doesn't really have a front or a back, as it looks nice from both sides. The knitted fabric does have a front and a back, though. The back side (also called the wrong side) of the knitting is the side that is visible in the center of the machine while you are knitting. Its texture looks like horizontal "bumps" of yarn. The front side (also called the right side) of the knitting is the side that faces out towards the rest of the machine and is not seen while you are knitting unless you pull the fabric up and turn it over. Its texture looks like columns of "V" shapes. Each "V" shape is one stitch. Hope this helps! Thanks!

I want to get an Addi to make hats for veterans, should I get the Addi pro or the king, I have a round loom kit and I find the green ring is good for women & teens, and the yellow (41 peg) is good for male adults, I know the addi king has 46 needles, that sounds like it would make a very large hat ? or are the stitches tighter using an Addi ?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 лет назад
Hi! The Addi pro can really only make hats for preemie babies, as it only makes a tube about 3 1/2" in diameter (unstretched). If you want to make adult hats, you'll definitely want the Addi King: amzn.to/2Ltbv0b I don't know if the stitches are tighter on the Addi, as I don't loom knit, but the fabric is rather elastic. So the actual size of the tube comes out smaller than the size of the machine. If you want more info on hat sizing, you can find it here: yayforyarn.com/how-to-knit-a-basic-hat-on-your-addi-king-knitting-machine/ The circumference of the tube can be adjusted by using different yarn weights (thicknesses) and by putting more / less tension on the yarn as it feeds into the machine. Hope this helps! Thanks!

@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 года назад
Hi. This cast on does not stop the edges from curling on the ends of a tube. However, it does create a permanent edge, which is necessary if you are not planning to graft or cinch the end of the tube. If you don't want the end of the tube to curl, you can do about an inch of ribbing after you cast on. I have a video on ribbing here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-78RWuasAT5g.html I hope this helps!

Hi, I have a Sentro - not an Addi but so far it seemed they were virtually the same in operation but obv the Sentro is a much lower build quality. However, I tried this with the Sentro and it just doesn't work like the Addi it seems. The Yarn is not pulled into the machine securely, it rests gently hooked onto the top of the needle and when you finish the cast on round and try to do the next round, they all just pop off. :(. The cast on round on the Sentro looks exactly like the bind off round does when I go around picking the stitches off the hooks. Do you know if this is because of a design difference between the Addi and the Sentro or am I missing something?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 года назад
Hi Erica. If the cast on stitches are not pulled down into the machine, and the stitch does not slide down to the base of the needle when the needle comes up on the next round, the stitches will fall off. If the machine does not automatically hold the cast on row down as the needles come up, you might want to use a loom pick or your finger to manually hold each stitch down as each needle comes up. The stitch must stay at the base of the needle as it rises, or else the loop will fall off. I hope this helps!
