Thank you for not including a race or ethnicity in the title of the video and u spoke strictly based on hair type and not on race or ethnicity people always be so obsessed w that .
Beautybymichelle it's not called being obsessed. It's being aware and living in a society that isn't colourblind. Why do people ignore colour because that is a privileged mindset people of colour don't have. Marginalised groups in society don't get to decide to be another race when they're racially profiled by police (example) etc.
lunar lol Vikings didn't have dreads. It was literally matted up hair. True descendants of Vikings even say their ancestors couldn't possibly have dreads bc they're hair couldn't naturally dread- instead it matted up. Get over it. You can't have everything you want. If you aren't black, it's most likely appropriation to have box braids
This video did not even mention anything about race or racism yet people feel the need to bring it up into the comments like it's necessary. Smh just enjoy the video.
It's about race because box braids is part of the black race and don't tell black women how they should feel if it's not your place to say how they should feel ESPECIALLY if your not black
@@angelange859 but if white people want to wear them, let them. If they’re not hurting anyone I mean it’s their hair their choice. Plus it looks good on whites and blacks. So get over yourself
DopeAxx Pana ok thanks she sings so beautifully and the hairstyle is sooooo pretty I want my hair like that but my parents were like no you can’t because your hair is too straight lol
no, call it what it is, cultural appropriation. you cannot give black people credit for something they created they already have credit; claiming it came from anywhere just makes you look stupid and inaccurate. I love how people have conditions to appropriate black culture but when it's done to Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans its a strict no-go. black women, please pay attention. NON BLACK WOMEN USING BLACK WOMEN FASHION TRENDS IS CULTURAL APPROPRIATION. SALLY SUE GOT IT IN HER HEAD AND ITS CUTE MEANWHILE KEYONA IS GETTING KICKED OF SCHOOL??? PLEASE STOP. NO, YOU CANNOT GIVE US CREDIT TO WEAR OUR CULTURE WE ALREADY HAVE CREDIT TAKE SEVERAL SEATS.
Thank you for this video. I'm a very mixed person, adopted, and very Caucasian looking. I'm exploring the family history and my husband is African American. He really likes braids, wants me to braid his hair, our sons, and would like for me to braid my hair from time to time too. Learning this for type 1 hair is a blessing. I also am looking up your videos for type 3 hair too! my son has so many textures in his hair it isn't funny! Thank you so much for educating us all!
I’m very late. I want to do box braids but then I’m feeling like my friends are going to judge me and trying to act a color. This is why I love this video. Any race can do box braids. This video gave me confidence to do box braids. So thank you.🙂💙
@@bottledcandy8348 wow, talking about disrespectful. Look at you 😑 who the fuck are you to be talking like that to an absolute stranger? You know what? I hope karma bites you in the ass and you lose everyone and everything you love and care for. You deserve nothing but the negativity that gets thrown at you every day. Fuck outta here with that shit.

I loved how the braids turned out! I'm mexican. My hair tends to get oily really fast. I like braiding my hair, because when I do it, it takes more time to get oily. I would really like to get box braids like this, but then I feel like people get mad about it and I don't want to offend anybody. I just feel like, it's okay if someone uses/ wears something from another culture as long as they do it with RESPECT. There's a lot of people using/wearing mexican culture stuff. And we don't get mad about it as long as they are being respectful. We feel flattered, because it means they like our culture, and that's an awesome way to embrace ourselves. ❤ let's just love and respect each other ❤
Omg samee! I live in Mexico and have always wanted to get box braids but i also dont know where to get them done here. And for the longest time I was a little bit afraid of it coming of as appropriation, even tho braids are also a really traditional Mexican hairstyle just not that type of braid. I’m gonna try and learn how to do them on myself 😁😁 wish me luck

@@liagonzalez160 están bien caras 😭😭😭 yo he visto que las ponen lo más barato en $3000 Pero pues sí es mucho trabajo
I'm here because I'm getting my hair braided for my birthday. Being from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 and being mixed with East Indian and African makes me embrace both cultures. I have learnt that they have some similarities as well. This style came out so neat.
Why is everybody talking about white people wearing box braids? Personally I don't get offended when I see white people with braids if they can rock it let them rock it. You don't own a hairstyle plus, it's the same thing as black women getting relaxers so why does it matter?
Aleaha Wilkins it matters because black girls have been called ghetto, fired, and bullied for having box braids. It is a part of black culture because t is a protective hairstyle for black hair. We get upset when a white girl wears box braids because they aren’t fired or suspended or haven’t had their prom privileges taken from then because of their hair style. But if you don’t get offended or upset by it, then that is your opinion, I just think it is important to understand why people do get offended.
You just said a mouthful of nonsense. Nobody should get offended at nobody. Why? Well, for one the weave most black women wear belongs to someone other than another black woman. Secondly, weave wasn't created just for black people to wear, heck weave was being worn when "I dream of Jennie" came out. It's ignorance that get people fired not the hair.
Adoptive mama of a beautiful biracial daughter. Just wanted to say than you for this video. DD's hair is super curly, but I followed along while it was wet and would wet the section as I did it. I hope that doesn't cause problems. Fingers crossed. Two hours later and it is done, and she is so excited. (Has been asking for them all week.) It isn't perfect, but she is really happy about how it turned out. You've given me confidence to keep trying. So thank you!
I honestly don't understand, why people is making it a big deal that mixed people gets box braids etc done. Its not just for black people anyone can get box braids, there's not rule that says mixed people can't get that.
Omg, thank you!! This is literally the first video where I can actually understand how the braiding is done from start to finish. Will be attempting to braid my hair again this weekend. Great job! 😊😊
I'm sorry, but constantly crying "cultural appropriation" is literally self segregation. I understand when people are discrediting black culture, but something like this, is cultural *appreciation* as well. Also, are we assuming the the customer is white? Cause I have black friends her color. js
I think she's a person of color, you can see when she turns around. I don't think shes "white" but it doesn't even matter lol. The cultural appreciation complaints just need to chill. let a sister have some braids! damn, maybe some people finally figured out the gem of protective styles is that they make it so you don't have to do your hair everyday! !
Brianna McClain she could also be Hispanic or asian, she doesn't look white to me. But if she was it doesn't matter, she should style her hair how she wants, she sure loves braids since she's doing them
Yenelly be quiet because you don't even know the history behind this hairstyle thank you and I am done with this convo of oh she is not white but she still has dog hair and this is so funny its horse hair when black women wear it but it's sooooo so cute when a piece of paper wears it paleese end of convo
This is really beautiful! I learned braiding from my mom and she got a book and everything, the braiding book doesn’t cover box braids but other forms. I love braids and think they’re beautiful, and the amount of creativity people can put into the braids is just so wonderful! I wasn’t sure what a box braid was until I stumbled upon your video, very informative! Not something I’d do to my own hair, but it is very well done and beautiful! Thank you for the video!
The way you teach to braid is fantastic! By far the best hair tutorial videos and hair channel I've found! I've learned so much and so many different techniques. Thank you so much!
When I was younger I was obsessed with Brandy and always wanted hair like hers. I never thought about what color she was or how I wasn’t “allowed” to wear braids. It’s kinda sad how mean we are to each other over things like this.
I have never seen this done, and now I know why my friends that do this say getting their hair done is an all day event! Bring your snacks to do this 😂 But you killed this 👏🏼👏🏼 I wish I could braid like this. I struggle even just French braiding my hair lol
Angelic voice! Love how she sang other ppl songs but made them her own.😊 her own versions I could listen to this his all day...waiy, I am while I cook thanksgiving dinner😁😂
I wanna get box braids, I’m full Hispanic and my hair is extremely thick and voluminous, and curly/wavy I saw someone say nobody had had hair good enough for box braids besides African Americans but I’m still gonna get box braids and give it a try because I think they’d stay and I absolutely love the look of them!
Currently 1 who chopped their hair in quarantine and needed a protection style to 1 look stylish but mostly to let my hair grow back and be protected in the process. Thankyou for this video😭❤🥰 and your nephew was adorable lol
If other races (she's probably mixed) are going to start wearing African American hairstyles I believe we should call them African box braids so it doesn't lose its origin of culture in the diverse usage, no?
Ashley Sandoval same as saying "French plait" or "Dutch braid" is there a specific country the box braids are associated with or just Africa in general?
I have to do someone’s hair and they have straight/wavy hair😩😭I’m so scared because I never did on on straight hair but I’m going to try this technique👌🏽
I actually want to get box braids done on my hair for my graduation. I might get gray extensions for the braids. Cuz my color is going for like a burgundy gray white and gold. So it's gonna be a little extra But I'm gonna look snatched for my graduation
The thing is I don't care about what race that does it I care about black women being called ratchet for doing it and when white women do it it's high fashion or edgy
You're right. But even in high paying jobs white people wouldn't be looked at as professional. And white people themselves would look at this girl likes she's stupid. "Trying to act black". Stupid world.
Kota Kōta I never said she wasn't 😂. I only mentioned Zendaya because she got ridiculed for her dreads when Kylie didn't. Stop being so emotional and easily offended.
As a girl with thin straight hair this video made me smile! And it also made me realize my hairstylist has been doing a really good job even with this white girl hair 😂
I love these braids!!!!❤️❤️GREAT WORK! I got bullied for days at my high school because of me getting box braids and ended up getting into a fight because I couldn’t put up with people coming up to me yanking my braids saying, “You’re white, take them out before I do”. Yet, I had a lot of people from all races telling me how well it looked on me. I ended up dropping out of high school later down the road because I couldn’t put up with people my age who were so mean just to be mean(it’s not the only reason I dropped out though). I’m 17(supposed to be a junior in high school) and getting my own place in a month now.☺️It’s just a style, nobody’s stealing anyone’s culture. Some white people might love the style like I do and that’s why we get it. Just how some natural haired people love the way their hair looks when straightened. Everyone has their preferences.❤️😊Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from expressing yourself!✨‼️
@@diddiaries6068 this! I live in Spain and it was my Senegalese friend who wanted to do braids on me. It's so different from the main mindset in America.
It's sad how many people are arguing about hair and saying racist things it's sad... no matter what race you are you do what you want ... that's like saying nobody can where makeup because it's a Egypt and Greece culture... it doesn't work like that. Nose rings are cultural.. I guess you can't have those. Braids have been around forever. Chill out
Well the whole cultural appropriation will stop when white people stop discrediting black culture. Theyve done it constantly before. Tacos have become whitewashed, tea became white washed , etc... I dont see the problem defending your culture.
It's not just about hair though, is it?? If someone asks you not to do something out of respect for them, why would you go ahead and do it anyway? Some people won't be offended by a white girl wearing braids, but if that is important to an individual because it is a part of their culture, you have no right to tell anyone that they can't be offended and "It's just hair". Just wear your hair straight god damn
I love them hope I can get them done soon 😁 and do what you love take appreciation on what you love to do it does not matter what culture you are from do what you do girl ☺️💯
God these braids are so beautiful, i cant get over them. I would love to get braids lile this, but im scared of people wanting to fight me just because of my skin color..
I've always, since i was a little girl, wanted to get my hair done up in box braids, but like a lot of people I'm super scared of the backlash I would get from close minded people... I attempted to do it in middle school but the lady doing my hair braided a few, got an emergency call and left, and never came back. I know not everyone's like that, but still it kinda makes me anxious about trying again too.. I wish I could like have a sassy personality so I could tell people to eff off if they said something about my hair because it was braided, but I'm timid and shy and would not know what to do in those situations. But I think box braids are beautiful and fun!!!!
usernameoptional14 well you don't really have a say of us black people should just deal with it or not. Everything is getting stole from us that was once named ghetto is now some sort of white fetish trend. Sorry for trying to keep our culture alive but I would like to keep this to ourselves thanks.
I'm sorry but there is no keeping a hairstyle to yourselves or to a certain race. Black culture will always be alive no matter who emulates it or participates in it. If it was decided that non-blacks can't wear certain black hairstyles, then that would mean blacks can't wear non-black hairstyles like straight hair. Why would anyone even want to open that can of worms. Trying to dictate who can or can't wear a hairstyle is like segregation. Why would anyone want that? If a person wants to wear a typically black hairstyle, no one else has the right to tell them they can't wear it.
Jadiey H I'm not white. I'm native American. And our culture is just as important as yours. I see white people wear headdress's even though in my culture you have to earn it, simply just buying it is disrespectful. I hear the term "redskin" being used playfully even though the phrase was coined from the color of the blood that dripped down my ancestors faces as they were scalped. But I'm not mad. I'm happy to share my culture with anyone and everyone. What happened a long time ago, while my heart hurts for those who suffered, I cannot change it. The more people are willing to accept cultures that are not their own, the more people are interested. Keeping it alive.
I'm really tired of people saying she's stealing black people culture . stfu I'm black , at least be glad they like things we do enough to do them ! who don't know black people started box braids of course everybody knows that😒! be positive
exactly @randomwierdo . and i really don't care about.if your against my opinion or not . this is why EQUALITY will never be . its always something to make us just more angry with each other its not worth it ! . but bye . I'm done I said what I said and I meant what I said !
I have always wanted box braids since I was 5 after seeing my best friend’s grandma braid her hair. I asked if she could give me the same hairstyle and she told me my hair wouldn’t hold the weave bc I have Asian hair and that was the first time I became aware of race. Her grandmother loved me though and I adored her family. They accepted me and welcomed me and I am so grateful for that friendship. I still wish I could have box braids that last longer than 4 days. The braids you gave this model are so immaculate!!!
I'm Mexican and I naturally have curly/wavy hair and I don't know what to do with it since I straighten it everyday, I was just wondering if I should get this done but I'm afraid I'll get made fun of when I just want a heatless hairstyle any advice? ☺️
