Use a tapestry needle. Pull the serger threads and stretch them out. Then cut the threads down. You should be left with two long threads. Thread the needle and then push the needle through the serger threads and cut off the access. Very neat and clean.

Angela, I am definitely going to give this a try. I saw folks use the tapestry needle but I thought it would be difficult to do. But when you said to stretch out the thread it makes sense. I would be easier. Thanks for mentioning this to me!!!

I saw this technique some time ago but didn't use it. I watched RU-vid videos from (Amber) Bingham Bliss, and she used it regularly. So I got in the habit and use it all the time. I have a little magnet nearby where I place the needle so I don't lose it.

I like to use a large eyed needle. Push it in backwards and thread it and pull it through. Looks great and what a good idea.

I need to get a needle with a large eye. I think that might be easier to use instead of the hook I got. Or it could be that the hook is new and it was the first time using it. I still want to get the needle with the large eye thou to do a comparison and see which is easier for me.

I got to get me one of those needles. This is a cool way to save a towel. Thanks for this tutorial.

Love it Jeanette. I need to get me a serger.

You can use the zig zag stitch on the SE1900 if you don’t have a serger.

Nice work Jeanette. I still use FrayChek after pulling my thread through for extra measure.

I didn't think of doing that. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to start doing that as well.

You have inspired me to create washcloths and towels….using old towels I’d put in the “mending”! What I make would look adorable with embroidered children’s designs, like….doggies, birds, baby dolls, or even some popular cartoon characters. They would only be for family members and won’t be sold. Don’t want to get tagged with any copyright issues 😊.

Yes. They would definitely make great gifts! Especially for kids. I like the idea of adding designs on them with the name!

Just an FYI, I would use a closer stitch on the washcloths with your serger. The stitch you used was too loose, so it resulted in what Nancy of Nancy Notions would call "pokies". 😉

Thanks! I’ll have to take out my manual and see how to make the stitches tighter. I think they look too loose too. Plan on taking some serger classes next month. Hopefully I will learn all the in and outs of this machine!😊

Wouldn’t you use a wash away stabilizer on the top???

You can. It would look clearer.
