Hi Friends, in this tutorial I am showing how to avoid basic mistakes and attract attention to the focal area in the painting. I share what is very important to do, but many ignore. I talk about most important aspects and how they affect your watercolor. Many aware of these aspects but do not know what actually lays behind the words. Many know good techniques but keep doing mistakes. If you wish to view the good example in full please find me on Patreon, the link is above.
Hope it is helpful.
Please like, subscribe and share, and come back to see more.
Happy painting!

Your Dos and Don'ts are so great. I have been watching many so called master grade artists doing their demos but they never have these ideas explained clearly. The side by side comparison of the Dos and Don'ts paintings is inspiring. Thank you for your effort.

GOod point about avoiding strong contrasts throughout the painti g. A photographer named Peterson states that we should try to avoid what he calls "screaming babies" in the photo. Ie, avoid things that draw our attention all over the photo (or painting) causing our eye to "ping-pong" all over the painting. Strong co traits all over the place will cause this effect, as well strong colors and values, textures, patterns etc. The "screaming baby" is any object or subject or groups of subjects that strongly draws out attention to it. There should only be one or a very few, right around the center of focus, with less "loud" details around the edges of the paintings that are much more subtle, and which add to the scene, and work tO direct the attention towards the main subject, rather than become further centers of interest in the painting, which compete with the main center of Interest. Things like intricately drawn windows on a building where every,detail is painted become things that vie for attention and draw interest away from the main subject. (If the windows are the main subject hour that is a different issue)

Nina, this was such an informative video. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and for the clear and concise way that you presented the information. I found the do and don't format with an actual example of a city scape and recap of the concepts to be very helpful. It helped me to see where I am generally far to representational in my attempts. It would be great to see a video in this format with an actual example of a somewhat busy landscape.

I talk about Escoda Aquario Gold edition there, but original Escoda Aquario is good too.

What colour would you suggest for sky where the main buildings are all of reddish /orange brown brick? The complementary colour of red is green….but this obviously wouldn’t work. Yet a bLue sky immediately makes it too ‘pretty’…..chocolate boxy
@nvfineartstudio7296
@nvfineartstudio7296 Год назад
Hi Anne, such a good question. lf you need "blue sky of a sunny day", you can use Cobalt Blue, but add a bit of neutral tint, lavender and a touch of Cad.Red Light to make it more neutralised blue. After you applied it to the sky, very quickly grab a weak Cad.Red Light and do a few large brush strokes across closer to the horizon line. This will tie it to the "red brick" building and at the same time will add "sunshine" to the sky. Just remembered, if you cannot compliment you can always add the same color/hue to the shape and it will bring the colour Harmony to the painting.
