How to do Gutturals (Metal Scream Tutorial)

What? this will never ever be true in regards to any harsh vocals. the sounds you hear when ur favourite vocalist does his gutturals are only there because of the vowels he is pronouncing while screaming. To add to this you’ll hear bands combine words or just pronounce them with less syllables because the scream that they are doing doesn’t support the changes airflow for a different vowel. TLDR - the sound vocalists makes depends on what vowel they’re pronouncing with each tongue/mouth position, therefore saying the word and how you say it is what matters most you can have the same shape for a guttural but be making an “o” sound and not be able to get the guttural tone because the vowel changed the airflow, gutturals are all done with an “e”, therefore words like disease sound good with a guttural because you get the guttural tone on every “e” sound. Also why death metal vocals have more complex lyrics, it gives way to more complex vocals with more syllables source - experience

@@djentlemanb might not be the best of advice but if you take a nap when you feel a craving for a bowl for about three days you will no longer have cravings for the combo and once you kick the tobacco and weed combo I heard that you can stay high for like 5-6 hours off a fat green bowl? And Tom barber of Chelsea grin and DARKO US says he only need to take a half hour break from smoking bowls to be able to do disgusting vocals without pain or dryness so I have faith in the both of us!

Well just look at Don from WTC. That beast smokes copious amounts of marijuana and cigarettes and there he is in studio and on stage performing astounding inhaled gutterals as well as exhaled blasting death growls. That should help inspire some. Smoking won’t destroy yer ability to do this stuff. Just ya know don’t do that every time ya want to practice or use your vocals haha cause it does dry ur throat out n shit but some people can still do em while cottonmouthed

You can do low fry screams but it’s a different sound. I actually learned an osdm type scream first, then gutturals and I want to learn fry to cover some thrash and Crystal Mountain

Are you referring to the “Gutteral Demonstration with Phil Bozeman” video? He was doing fry’s in that. You can tell by where the sound is resonating. Another dead giveaway is how much air he pushes through with his diaphragm. And you can hear a “yuh” before the gutteral. That was him forcing air before applying any sound.

No, it's not normal, u are prolly smashing your vocal folds which is not good for screaming and u may loose Ur voice.
