Thank you for this tutorial, I was very wary of learning this having taken up judo at 51 years old, and following your advice helped me to get my 6th Kyu belt. Thank you again!

Lots to work on, thanks for the high contrast background and the clear explanation. It is such a wonderful opportunity to hear insights on techniques from someone who is chosen as Uke for so many top level Aikidoka.

@pierre lunaire What has helped me along the way is to remember to be relaxed. Never to do any of this with any tension or strength but rather to allow physics to take over, as it were. I kept rolling to one side or landing on the flat of my back. I kept on experimenting until I realised why it was happening and most of the time, it was due to tension, being taut rather than flowing. I also learned to 'let go' rather than overthinking it, and see yourself doing it and by and by, you will. You also need to use some energy, but in a controlled not harsh way.

Sensei, I practice Karate and Hapkido, but the Mae Ukemi seems to me extremely confused. Your video releases all the confusion from my mind. Thank You. Oss.

Is it applicable on concrete surface Sensei?? Why the ukemi in aikido different than parkour??
@danebarcelona4346
@danebarcelona4346 Год назад
This is applicable dude BUT be sure not to slap your feet/ankle on concrete surface or else it''ll be injured, just like what sensei doing on the last part of his demonstration when his partner throws him. His feet is too heavy that's why they're slapping on the floor!!!ouch!!!

Start off with the first step and get really comfortable with keeping a ball shape .. and you’ll learn it!

I learned these as a kid. Recently I crashed a unicycle at 40mph without a helmet or shirt on. My injuries I received are identical to the areas of contact that coincide with these rolls. I didn't receive any head injury's and after 7 days the majority of cuts and scrapes are healed.

Here's what I don't understand: No matter how good you are at ukemi rolls, you'll still hurt yourself if you try just one single roll on concrete. Correct? So, what is the point of doing these rolls on a mat? Why practice something in a dojo that you'd never use in the real world? I'm honestly not trying to make fun of you nor this art. I am only trying to learn and understand this. Thank you.
@frontenac5083
@frontenac5083 11 месяцев назад
No, not correct. Try falling flat on your face on concrete and tell us how you're doing better than if you had done one of these rolls instead.
@johnvem949
@johnvem949 11 месяцев назад
@@frontenac5083 Okay. If I fall flat on my face on concrete, then I will likely hurt myself MORE than if I do ukemi rolls on concrete. But that still doesn't answer the question. Are you saying that you can do ukemi rolls on concrete without hurting yourself at all?
