Guess you watch a lot of videos on how to bunny hop. Well look no further sir, this video will be the one to finally get you to learn the proper technique.
Cheers Ali - great vid - inspired me to get my bike out and give it a go. After an afternoon of sweat I can now confidently bunny hop my 54 yo bones over a 1" stick (you've got to start somewhere). Well done and thanks
You have given me alot of hope 45 tomoz, and just got given my onza bike, I used to ride bmx when I was a kid, but nobody warned me about alien it all feels, when u get a little older, a little older lol hahahahahaha
for real, your breakdown was perfect! And the multiple camera angles are great. I totally get 'it' now. You want to be bunny hopping like an olympic high jumper, basically putting the bike into a fosbury flop
i agree! I have road bicycles and thought it might be a good idea for my commuting to be able to do a modest, beginner height bunny hop...I've tried and failed, but you explained it so well i may try again. Mostly fear of falling backwards stops me even though my light bicycle has tried to wheelie by itself when i put a lot of pressure on a fast start. :)
I can bunny hop but I can't get those big hops. So I've been watching videos. This is by far the most descriptive, detailed and totally explained video I've seen. With the slo mo and play by play. Well played sir. Well played!
I went mtn biking today near Mt Hood. I used my suspension lots of times going over horizontal roots. I could have bunny hopped them and landed flat on the trail. I'll be sure to work on it.
Your video is spot on! This is the best Bunny Hop tutorial video I have ever seen. That part with the leg from 4:16 to 4:53 was what most of the other Bunny Hop videos lack. After watching your vide yesterday evening, I was finally able to lift my back wheel! I thank you for the video
You guys are the only guys who explained how to lift off the back tire properly, watched like 100 other videos and this one really helped me do a bunny hop on a road bike... Can't wait to improve my skill... Cheers! 💕
The bit about the tuck and how you need to brace the bike in the air with pressure on the handlebar and the pedals (specifically the back foot) were extremely helpful.
Watching your vlogs for some time now, I already thought sometimes you would be an amazing, patient and giving teacher/trainer for techniques around trials. This video is more than just confirmation my feeling was right. Keep it up!!! Really appreciate the time, effort and energy you put into your videos!
Great great video Ali!! I've been searching for trials tutorials all the time, but none of those impressed me much. Until I found yours!! You'll be a master of trials coaching! Please more tutorials, please!! :D
Yeah dude, You Rock. The detailed description was on point. I'm 56 years old and I still love doing bunny hops. I'm not looking forward to the day to come when I can no longer be able to do a bunny hop. I'm also a mad downhill longboarder at 56 (47 in my picture).
Awesome video, just wanted to say that if you're trying to learn how to bunnyhop, at least that was the case with me,I first learned how to English bunnyhop and then one day I accidentally did an American one and there you have it,I could do the American bunnyhop .so yeah, just don't give up if you can't do the American bunnyhop, keep practicing and you're gonna get it
Finally an intuitive video on how to do a proper bunny hop. I have watched way too many videos on this skill and have always been disappointed. At this point I really suck at bunny hops and can do much better with the English version. I can't wait to practice these techniques which were so thoughtfully and thoroughly presented. Thanks Ali! And thanks for all of your vlogs which I watch religiously and enjoy completely.
After 45 years of hopping stuff that's in my way, I can now say I understand what is happening and pretty sure I will be hopping a little higher from now on!
This is the most helpful how-to I've ever seen for bunny hops. Since getting back on the bike, I've been struggling to get my hops higher and this really gave me some different ways to think about it. Thanks much, my friend!
Back in the early 80s the baddest bmxer was the late curt fujimoto and he would bunny hop over a bmx bike with the seat up high and do a completely flat table top. It was amazing to see as a kid
aw :) many thanks :) but i also cut my sinew and now i cant use my right hand for about 2 months , but ill try to use this time to start my arcade build only with my left hand :D
This is by far the best "How to Bunnyhop" video I have found yet (and I have watched a lot of them...). Thank you for taking the time to break down the sequence with plenty of clear explanatory comments. I agree with Dave Davies - you should make more "how to" videos!
It's great that you are showing mistakes too. It's an honest and thorough teaching experience. I've learned a lot and thanks to you my MTB rides became even more enjoyable. Thank you
Yeah, I got maybe 3 3/8" this time, but I guess that is progress. Have plenty of explosive power, can easily get over 12" with an american bunny hop, but sadly, have always had a serious lack of coordination :(
The best bunny hop tutorial in the entire world of youtube, with bonus tips to make your mtb bunny hop higher. This was an amazing video! I already liked, subscribed and notified.
oh God the much awaited has come take Ali C. been watching your vids since day 1, hope you'll release more of this tutorials, I love trials man, God speed and lets keep this channel alive :D
When you hit the bar and said "I look like an idiot" I pictured me on the sidelines with no bike watching you hit a bar that's at my hip height (ish) with your bike and I can barely hop over the bar on the ground without a bike. Have a great day!
Very good lesson. I just started riding trials about two weeks ago. So I'm just learning to bunny hop (and unlearning SPD bunny hop) and other stunts. It's difficult, but I hope that next summer I've learned something. I'd also like to see more of your lessons.
That was great! I never realized it was a "tuck" and not just turning sideways in the air. Great instructional vid Ali, hope to see more of those! Now I'm off to the shops to get materials for my bunnyhop bar!
Nice video. One comment I would add about bunnyhops is learning how to land. You touched on this with the "Extend" but it might need more attention. I tried to teach my sister to bunnyhop when we were teens and she ended up going over the bars. I've seen many people, especially those using the SPD approach you disavowed, who get the first part right but then nosedive the landing. It's very important to extend your legs to push the rear back down first, or at least level.
Ali, very detailed explanation. As a strength coach, we measure jump height as a component of strength and power. I would be keen to know your standing jump height without a bike to see if there is a correlation. You do it with such ease. Many of the concepts are the same just the terms vary only slightly. Great work.
Ali I'm amazed at how high you can jump I totally understand the technique yet I've got some serious practicing to do as I can barely hop 50 cm at best. I find videos like this very informative and encouraging and I've never tried the tuck technique either and I can see how useful it is. Inspirational!
im a beginner learning basic skills and watched a lot of videos trying to learn from them by far this video stands out in terms of explaining by deconstructing every element down and showing how to do it v good job mate
Great tutorial and great hops! The only thing I would have added would be how important your wrists and grips are. You can get a lot of extra back wheel height from starting with your wrists rolled back slightly and rolling them forward at the peak for maximum back wheel height, and loose grips will make it impossible to get max height. Cheers!
all right there, my friend, that bunnyhop was wicked man, I am 40 & I am going to trie that .that vid will help a lot, thanks for showing u thes tips all the bets
This just made me realize how much I suck at bunny hopping just kidding but I do suck it actually got me bunny hopping right I'm a mountain biker and it still helped me thanks man
i always come back to your guide videos no matter if im still just learning the techniques or just looking for some guidance that i lost along the way to become better at them. this time it's because i wanted to see how true a statement is. "you can only bhop as high as you can lift your front wheel" and it seems to be true. it will also become a good way to measure what i'm doing wrong, when i'm persuading the 1 meter height bhop goal, which is still quite far. my highest one had to be somewhere between 60 and 75cm, but those aren't very consistent and i didn't actually measure it at that time, but i'm 100% sure those were way higher than my measured record at 45cm. now i'm gonna have to see how far can i lift my front wheel and how does my rear wheel follows. chances are i'm missing out, because i can't lift my rear wheel high enough, or perhaps it's the opposite. i can't lift the front high enough to improve them. anyway i wanted to ask you a question. often times when i'm going for the very high hops i either loop out and jump off the pedals or i end up "denying" the hop. i lift the front, that also causes my back wheel to get off the ground slightly, without doing any work with my legs, but i immediately cancel the whole process by "pumping" the rear down, because it doesn't feel stable and i'm unable to do the rest of the motion. fear also plays a role here. sometimes when i try to ignore the "unstable" position and proceed with the rest of the hop, the whole thing just goes completely wrong and gets nasty with myself (sometimes) slipping off the pedals in the front direction as i'm nose diving very heavily. can you think of some tips how to improve on those? not gonna lie, those get very discouraging quickly, but i feel like i have to find a way to overcome those if i wanna do 1m+ hops eventually. also this vid just got 1m views, congrats, Ali. i think that's my favorite one as well.
I learned how to bunnyhop here on RU-vid. I use a mountain bike, not a BMW, so obviously I can't go that high off the ground for a start. Also, I set the seat rather high, which is better for riding but that limits how high you can jump as well. But I usually only need to jump over curbsides anyway.
