I would advise people to avoid consumables and temporary buffs to start off with. You don't need them, and you definitely don't want to be reliant on them. Once your damage is in a nice place, then think about starting to add them in for boss fights only. There is nothing in this game that requires those kind of buffs to kill if your build is good enough. All those buffs will do is make you kill bosses quicker.
Doing this also means better inventory management. If you only need your buffs for bosses, that means you only need to carry a dozen(or less) overdrive and stimpaks when starting a session as opposed to carrying 100 and necessitating the travelling pharmacy perk
I mostly rely on consumables for QOL, not for damage. Yes, I always have a stockpile of melee damage meals, but I don't even take them all the time. Instead, I tend to take +STR and +Carry Weight, +XP (Tasty Squirrel Stew), and stuff to boost HP, AP, and HP and AP regen.
@@romxxii imo food with Thru Hiker is the only weight card you should aim to run 24/7 with bulk items, at least until freezers are added to the game. Benefits of food are too useful, and it makes more sense to preserve them on your character with good with salt 3 than it does on a fridge or mule
There's literally nothing wrong with using whatever you want in the game. Remember consumables weren't added as some kind of weird test from the devs. They're there to use.
While using vats holding the crit button is better than tapping it especially with commandos, took me longer then it should have to start doing this and made a huge difference.
A lot depends on the server speed though. Some servers give me really fast crits and other servers, it procs very very slowly. I am using a Bloodied build with both crit luck cards maxed which should give me crits every other shot (with my camp luck buffs). I RARELY get that unless I shoot one shot at a time slowly. To max ammo efficiency, I will shoot once, wait a second and fire another if needed. If an enemy has a sliver of health, I don't hit the crit button. I will wait for a full health enemy.
@@noahcollins9099eah, I hate that. You’re not gonna crit every second shot in PA unless you’ve used consumables to boost your luck anyway so I usually just tap it in PA. I hold it when I’m not in PA, though. I’ve also swapped my controls around so I jump with right bumper (really nice with the jetpack), melee/grenade with A (slightly annoying) and activate with Y (you get used to it) so instead of of accidentally jumping I just “activate” nothing and don’t even notice unless a corpse is laying near me or something.
When I first tried stealth commando I wasn't impressed with the damage. I had to do a lot of research to get the damage that I was looking for. (Thanks Turtle). The correct cards, weapon upgrades and legendary effects make a massive difference. At this point I have a lot of Fixers. My favorite is a Quad/faster firing/extra critical.
I've read that it spawns over a clutch of eggs. If you stand close to where it spawns in the bushes, you can supposedly see the clutch. Would definitely explain the anger!
Strange, even with no damage perks, an Enclave plasma should be killing enemies very quickly. VATS makes it almost an instant tap kill. I gain ammo using my enclave flamer pistol. Just a tap and they are dead with VATS to the vulnerable point.
They must of added the Enclave plasma to the drop list recently, got a legendary drop from an enemy the other day. It was not the flamer version just the pistol but it was a bloodied 2 star, I guess all versions are now possible drops. I just wish they would add the mods for this weapon to the Enclave vendors in whitespring like they did with the scout armor.
Agreed! Scored an Encolave plasma weapon from a player's vendero, but when I looked to learn mods from anybody that worked with bullion, I couldn't find ANYTHING.
Yes, unmodded Enclave Plasma Pistols drop separately now. But the good ones (Plasma Rifle with Flamer Barrel etc) still only drop from Dropped Connection. And sometimes you can find the box mods in Watoga's vendors.
I used to care so much about damage when I was lower level but once you learn the game and get some decent weapons and know which enemies work well with which weapon you don't really need anything special to solo a boss. I don't even bother popping any buffs for the most part if I have a full team. If I have nearly no help, then I will pop overdrive and psychotats, maybe a bobblehead that will improve damage. For bosses flamers, gatling plasmas, shredders, chainsaws, fixers/handmades, railway rifles, 2 shot Alien Blasters, cold shoulders all work great. Or you can be a support player and cripple the wing on the queen and the legs on Earle to make everyone else's life easier. I like to do that with a cold shoulder or pepper shaker and tag all the mobs with a tesla rifle to maximize xp.
My tip is a sort-of tip. If you are new to the game be aware that the game doesn’t always work as it is supposed to. So don’t think you are doing something wrong. Sometimes logging in and out can help clear glitches & in my opinion it is getting better. ( it’s not called Bugthesda for nothing)
The problem is that the servers are totally laggy often times now. Bethesda really needs to do something about it because it isn't just annoying on doing damage, it is even MORE annoying in damage received. It has become commonplace for me to just insta-die for no apparent reason, I assume because of server lag that registers on me while I am not even seeing it. Been playing for years and this hasn't been an issue until the last scoreboard update.
@@gametime2473 yes that’s a very valid observation, probably worse than the glitches I was thinking of. Tbh I often play on private server to do dailies etc but since this update have ventured on public for events and, in my experience, the game is borderline unplayable due to the lag. I don’t think I would continue to play if ff worlds weren’t a thing. It makes me feel bad & almost elitist in respect of players who don’t have ff. it needs addressing as a priority. 😕
Off subject but here’s a neat trick. If yah didn’t know already, when dropping from a certain height in power armor, you can switch to your secondary weapon right before hitting the ground to do away with the landing animation
If you do an event like rad rumble and enjoy using tesla rifles to tag targets using the grenadier perk grom perception affects the teslas arc range so you can hit walls and the arc go down the hallways to the spawns
I was that person that said his damage is always much higher than mine haha. (one of them anyways, but it was a recent video i said it and he liked it) Happy to see this video. I think the big thing is, and it's something he didn't cover, but I'm not a low health build. I dont have Unyielding armor and I find that I die pretty quickly even with my perk cards and whatnot. Unyielding and all the special stats make a huge difference to damage and survivability that I dont have.
Low health and unyielding is definitely not going to help your survivabillity. It will make it worse. If you want survivability look into getting power armor, especially with overeaters effect. Power armor is far and away the best in terms of survivability. I do both and there is no comparison. Full health with overeaters power armor, you are nearly unkillable. Bloodied health without power armor, there are enemies that can kill you very quickly, often before you can even hit the stimpack button (and even stimpacks are slower outside of power armor)
I have noticed that on different servers I get different amounts of damage. I use the same character build and different outcomes happen. I used to think that shared cards made a difference, but I use those cards already or the cards shared to me do not affect damage. I now think that the differences in lag now make the outcomes different.
Although I’m a bit bored with fallout 76 after 3000 hours I still recommend everyone to dig into things like mutations and food buffs at some point because it’s just so much fun you are missing out if you are one of them people who say it doesn’t fit to fallout and don’t want to play with that. It opens a way different play-style and adds so much mobility to your character. And also it gets you to get in touch with the community because you need to make researches and that’s one of the biggest pros in fallout anyway.
While checking this video in April 7th 2024, the Rifleman perk does not add to my Enclave Plasma Rifle, but using Commando seems to add a few extra points of damage in my weapon. So yes, Bethesda seemed to have nerfed Rifleman and boosted Commando even further lol, as if commando was not OP enough.
I switched my flamer to compression nozzle to increase range. Turned out I’m so used to getting up close that all I achieved was reducing my damage output. 😅
been max damage since release, tried max damage resistance and had a character in the 8 and 900s in ballistic and energy resistance, heavy leather limbs heavy combat chest piece, mathematically no higher possibility except power armor i hate power armor, 8-900 dr nrg resistance i take half damage from melee explosives and fire damage, ignoring 30% after i attack you and minus 30% through dodgy, a mix of bolstering and unyeilding to get the max out of perks and armor, 45% to just ignore damage altogether, vampires weapon running ricochet shoot me i heal, you do less damage i do more damage i shoot you i heal you take more damage i take less damage suppressors, half sentinel half cavalier less damage all around, only drug i use is pychotats less damage taken more damage done, there was a time where diying and respawning on another server doubled your first armor effect, the 250 dr while reloading stuck untill you fired again i put more time into this game than anyone should.

I played with the cryo blaster for 100 levels or so before growing tired of the trigger fatigue. It was the coolest looking weapon for my Nuka Girl build though. As for the disintegrator, appart from the cool sounds it's outclassed by the fixer on every level, automatic or single fire. Great video as always Turt!
Hey can somebody help me on behalf of my flamer… I equipped all heavy gunner perks including stabilized bloody mess and also got adrenal reaction but still cant figure out how to get to the shown 120-130 dmg on my holy fire. What am I doing wrong help?

Is the cap buff better than blood for your weapon? I use bloodied but I have no health because of it so I die faster. But my armour is both at 700 but I still get wrecked. I use cap buff with the short gatling gun. at my best got 270 a hit I have had it up to 300 but since the change to the guns I just cant hurt anything with it.
Can you do a video on how to manage your cards? I get confused about the cards. Like I have 26 level ups but when I try to get a new card it says that I’m over my limit? (I’m new to fallout, this is my 1st fallout game. I got this game back in the day for the LOLs) if someone could help me with the cards I’ll be grateful
@mannygomez This is probably because you have 15 card points in the special already. There is a work around. Example: I had 15 points in Agility and wanted to choose an Agility card. It wouldn’t allow it. So I removed a point ( or 2) from Agility and tried again. Success. Then I put the points back. Hope that fixes your problem.
I'm still learning a lot about the game. I'm curious how it is that you have 76 SPECIAL points there? I thought the cap was 56. Do Legendary Perks allow additional Perk Cards to be assigned to stats?

Damage isn't the issue. AP regen is. I've got 5 armour pieces with ap regen, company tea, highly tuned,all of the perk cards for regen and it is still NOT enough. Having to rely on coffee at boss fights is really annoying.
That's odd usally with 4 pieces of AP regen you should be getting good regen although it really depends on the weapon, -25 vats cost on a weapon is def huge and makes a world of difference when running any gun in vats.
Hey turtle, thanks for the info, great as always. Can you do a turtle's lab regarding the SBQ killing camps not working? I had one but from some time the queen damage is highly minimized from everybody (players and turrets) if the camp is active. I had to deactivate the camp in order to be able to damage the queen last time. Thanks!

I've recently come back to the game after a few years, loving your videos however I'm stuck in a pickle with my perk cards, I was a shutgun build previously and only have shotgun perk cards, for some reason I don't have cards for any other build XD I have to level up to unlock more right?
i still have too many questions about boss damage mitigation and testing it is really not an easy task. I've been recently testing anti armor gauss rifle VS executioners, both have %50 more crit damage, and yet AA does still more damage on criticals.
well the AA woth 50% more crit would do more damage on crit because the crit also has the 50% ignore armour effect as well as the extra 50% damage for it being a crit.
Anti-armour is giving you armour penetration. It's one of the best legendaries in the game for killing bosses. The armour pen is stacking with the crit damage. When you crit a boss's damage mitigation is ignored. Their armour, however, isn't. Depending on the boss, the damage mitigation is between 80 and 90%. This is a seperate stat from their armour and isn't displayed. The Queen has 80%. Earl has 90%. I'm not sure what the ultracite titan's is at. I hope that helped some.

Question. If you have healing mutation which inhibits drug effectiveness. Is it better to have class freak so overdrive and phychotat/buff work better or is bloody mess better with the drug effects heavily reduced?
people don't really use the healing mutation because it causes people not to be able to fast travel. its something to do with being full health with some rad damage. but to answer your question, idk, you might have to test it by turning on damage numbers in settings (but sometimes those aren't correct).
@@kevinw.3330 Unfortunately I believe it doesn't work like that. You'd need to remove Carnivore first by walking through a decontamination shower for example (with Starched Genes unequipped). The shower will randomly remove a mutation. It's a pain in the ass (unless you can craft the serums you need).
unyielding power armor with plus 1 strength for each piece and all damage cards for my auto axe and melee bobblehead and fury is god tier against bosses. pure easy mode
I have an anti armor explosive handmade that does 111 but I'll see dudes with quad anti armor handmade that shoe like 200 damage on reddit? Does quad add damage too??? I'm so confused.
It’s affected by demo expert, but not listed on the weapon card. Also needs to use cryo receiver for the “snow ball bball effect” Turtle did a dedicated video explaining this a while back.
@@fivenotewonder i am already aware of this, however recently the demo card isnt changing the numbers on the cryo part. ive been using the cryo blaster for over 6 months and the cryo numbers were higher when you equiped demo expert. now when you de equip and re equip the numbers dont change like they used to. I havent changed my build in any way. One day the blaster was 21 normal damage and 18 cryo , now its 18 normal damage 15 cryo?? I have been playing this game since day one on a regular basis and nothing like this has happened before. Thank you anyway.
For full health builds, how can we get more AP and (other than have 25lvc on a weapon) be more efficient with AP cost when firing the weapon? I blow through my AP so fast that I get maybe two crits out before I have to exit vats and just hip fire until I can vats again However, on my bloodied build with an AA2525 fixer, AP is never an issue.. until I pull out the Q for bosses and get tweaked on coffee, but a full health build is like fighting SBQ, but I'm actually fighting a normal scorch beast whereas my bloodied will melt SBs. My full health build uses a HM but have not been able to get a 25lvc roll, yet. Thus, why I ask because man it's a slog vs. bloodied build. And an ammo pit.
ultra lite modded armor helps, shielded raider underarmor helps, herd mentality gives Agi which helps. Tato juice is very cheap and easy, gives some max hp for half an hour. But really, imo, max AP isn't as big of a deal as just having really strong AP regen. Even on my bloodied build, I can blow through all my AP very quickly because I use a EPG flamer in VATs as my regular mobbing weapon, on top of using Dodgy 3. But I have stacked AP regen effects, so even though I'm spending my AP very fast I get it back just as quickly and can hop back in VATs with very little delay. if curious, for AP regen I use Nerd Rage 3, Action Girl 3, 4x AP regen armor effect and i keep my character fully hydrated as well. Obv full HP can't make effective use of Nerd Rage. But the other stuff is very potent still.
make sure you have the correct weapon modifications attached to your weapon to reduce the AP cost while firing in VATS. be sure to have 15 agility points in your special. you can we overload your agility with legendary perk card to get 20 instead of 15. also, depends on the weapon... so guns just take up more AP, like a plasma rifle or radium rifle, etc.
Watch the video and pay close attention. If you have one weapon equipped and just "hover over" another weapon, all the cards/buffs/etc/etc for your equipped weapon are inside the game calculation and you see those effects on the weapon you are "hovering over". You MUST equip a weapon before looking at the damage numbers.
honestly, you lost me once u started talking about the nuka cola dark, liquid courage, and ballistic balk. we’re u saying u could combine all 3 as long as u did them in the order I just listed them ? Or do u have to replace one of them.
@@AngryTurtle would you be able to do a bit on all paddles and other rare items in game? My buddy and I have all paddles including bladed, spiked, flaming, electric, nuka, etc. Although we are on playstation we would be happy to let you use them for footage. We also have red firework mines, etc
From my understanding, adrenal reaction is a linear damage bonus. You get the best bonus from being under 20% health, but even full health builds will benefit from this mutation.
Man if buffs work/dont work depending on how you take them that makes them even less worth it. Theres already enough things in this game players need to learn how to work around, dont need to add another thing just for 4 or 5 more damage for an hour...
As much as i like lots of damage I'm just tired of having to rely on my tesla rifle at events for xp because some xp thief wants all of it for themselves I'd use my two Shot auto launcher but I'd be doing the same thing they are taking all the xp from the lower levels I see why there's alot of level 1500 plus players and I'm only 544 after nearly 2200 hours now.
Bloodied has way to much perk synergy to be knocked down, they will either have to change how perks function entirely or bring other builds up to dethrone bloodied, and the seem to be doing the latter, or at least trying.
@@btcahyo Automatic Railways absolutely slay in VATS. I have a Quad Vats Crits one and I can easily solo bosses. I'll give you the heavy ammo part, even with Bandolier.
I save your time and advice you go bloodied. If u do low damage u are not using unyielding bloodied. There are only two builds in F76 Bloodied and everything else. Unfortunately since f76 release for several years iam trying hard to push on developers for bloodied beying removed from the game or at least higly rebalanced, without any success because all they care is if your camp has enough items to display. Balance or some mechanics upgrade is beyond their comprehansion.
