One-Legged King Pigeon is a deep backbend and hip-opener that requires a lot of flexibility. With regular practice, you can royally enjoy the benefits of this pose.
Here are some health benefits of One-Legged King Pigeon:
- Opens your chest and shoulders
- Stretches your thighs, groin, hip flexors, abdomen, and neck
- Stimulates abdominal organs
How to do One-Legged King Pigeon:
1. Start in pigeon prep pose. Your front shin can be at a straight line, or you can bring your front foot closer into your body.
2. Square your hips and squeeze your inner thighs together.
3. Press your front-leg shin down into the mat.
4. Open toward your back leg and reach the same-side hand back, grabbing your foot and pulling it in.
5. Reach around to stabilize your foot, and bring the same side arm of your back leg to the outside of your back leg (flipped grip).
6. Turn your hand back and grab hold of the pinky-toe-edge of your back-leg foot.
7. Make sure your elbow is facing down, then turn toward the front of the mat.
8. Lift your elbow up and overhead. If you can balance, reach your other arm up, bend at the elbow, and grab your foot.
9. Lift your belly and chest, kick your foot back, and look up to complete the pose.

This, just about dislocated my shoulder attempting it. Was hoping they would clarify what sort of poses or work out would be necessary prior practise. Without this... This tutorial is useless for many

It may be. The flip grip requires a gymnastics level of shoulder mobility. Hipermobility is very common with yogis, not necessarily a good thing

@@chloek.5076 I also struggled with the elbow transition, but Yoga with Kassandra's tutorial really helped! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gLtgljV9Di0.html She explained how you can use your alternate hand to help guide the elbow up, and it worked perfectly for me. I would check her tutorial out.

The real challenge lies in rotating d elbow..that's a hell of a job..have been practicing but can't get it right.

Should i stop practicing yoga at home as a beginner? Because im getting weird back pain and shoulder like it’s paralyzed feeling I can’t describe it and i’m scared. I don’t know if i should be doing that without a coach?

A huge piece of yoga is learning how to breathe in and out of postures and feeling the emotions it brings, including fear and discomfort. Ultimately, only you can answer this question. There are wonderful studios and teachers out there, if you feel better going in person and are looking for a hands on experience, I encourage you to do so. :) remember, this is a practice and it is a life long one at that haha 😄 yoga is definitely a safe practice to do in your own home and alone, there is never a need to over complicate, or push your body too far, really just listen to your self and what your body is asking for.. some postures are aesthetically pleasing, yes.. but you can receive the same great benefits in less strenuous postures ! Some people genuinely need that deeper stretch after practicing many many lifetimes. Maybe someday you will too. ❤️
