i tried this, and finally got it with the 'look in direction of roll' cue. i was very excited. thought i got it. tried again, and proceeded to almost break my neck, and audibly cracked like 4 vertebrae 🤗 there always seems to be a lesson of humility in jiu jitsu

This was one of the first things I really struggled with for Budo. I just couldn't for the life of me, but with this video I am finally able to, and slow at that so it is safe on my neck. Thank you so much!

Thanks for sharing this! I did BJJ for only a few months abroad and this is one of the fundamentals I struggled with. Going to find a space where I can practice this freely :)

The way I remember it is keep one arm stretched out to the side and the other one tucked in by your body. The one stretched out away from your body is the side which shoulder you roll over, your head goes to the side which your arm is tucked to the side of your body.

After cranking my neck in my second ever jiu jitsu class, this was incredibly helpful!

This is excellent, thank you. I've been traumatized to try it again cuz day 1 of bjj I went over my neck and messed it up for a few weeks. Front roll seems intuitive but back is so odd for me. I keep trying your way over my bed for now lol to get it to feel natural

@@Pelicanpoosizzles I'm sorry that happened to you. I was so annoyed (at myself) when it happened to me. I did it again but not as bad this time. We really need to focus when doing it. I'm still traumatized lol

@@ceroncia4258 crappy feeling. Let it heal before trying it again. I read that gentle stretching of the neck helps it heal faster (google correct technique for neck injuries)

Great video. Thanks. Just had my first class yesterday and they were doing these backward rolls as part of the warm up. I should have known better because sure enough I used momentum and am pretty sure I herniated a disc in my neck. No big deal, I'm going to head back. But that might definitely seriously discourage someone else from coming back. 😬 Now I just have to be the odd one at the warm up who is practicing getting her feet over her head instead of throwing myself along with the warm-up drill. 🤷

It’s so scary when u bend backward with your upper torso on the floor and legs in the air and you can’t land backward and finish the move😂😂😂

I usually roll onto my right shoulder and can do it very well. Well today I had the bright idea of trying it on my left shoulder and I totally failed and jacked up my neck. I ended up rolling on my head instead of left shoulder and heard cracking the whole time. I feel like an idiot 😂

Hi Stephen just started watching the nogi leg lock instructional. I feel slightly guilty though as it was meant for people who can't train. When I asked for it I couldn't, but since yesterday I can as I've pulled out my old mats and cleared the patio, (the wife let me) and me and Miles are back in business. So really I should pay, Message me and I'll sort the money out. It's a great instructional by the way.
