Best single let breakdown in ages. MORE FROM THIS GUY please. I've been taking wrestling classes for a while and these simple details have never been brought up. Elbow deep, single shoot outside - head in, double shoot inside head out. Love it. More from this guy!
@@jrack900 Well mostly because it's faster, it's less telegraphed, and you're already close enough that you don't need to step with the back leg. Also, when you step with the front leg, you can push off the ground with the back leg, driving you in more
in that takedown position with his leg in between yours at 5:59 all he has to do if he is really coordinated and flexible is to take the leg that is not trapped on him, and throw it behind your across from it and land it right behind either the ankle or the knee and it will throw you right on your back. I used to try getting my leg in the crotch just so I could set up that move. Back points!!
alright so assuming you go for the left leg and you both end up standing like they do at the end of the video with the other guy trying to keep his balance on his right leg, what are my options in actually trying to take him down so that his back is on the floor and I end up on top of him?
Not terrible, might be okay for BJJ guys or even MMA guys. But a single leg is head on the inside (correctl in the video) and the outside knee down, not the inside knee. You can shoot in with the inside knee down, but you should reach with the left hand first, then a near-instantaneous knee-switch to the outside knee, wrapping your right hand around the leg at the same time. That’s called a “knee-pull,” though, a variation of a single leg.
Ok guys can some wrestlers help me here? I've had 2 lessons of MMA and i'm going to begin it full time soon. I have problems dropping my front knee in time for a takedown and by the time I drop it the other guy sprawls. What can I do to drop my knee correctly or in time? Thanks
If somebody has the same stance, cant you do a single on his near leg? Like a high crotch, but head on the inside. Guess it will be harder to cut the corner and you might aswell do a highc in that situation, but Im afraid of getting guillotined. Especially with a high c where u dont have control of the other leg, he might fall into half guard where my head and body are on the same side - Im done there. So can you just put ur head on the inside? Getting an angle will be harder I guess tho.
Great video/tutorial here Jason I was very impressed with your knowledge and expertise regarding single leg and double-leg takedowns, as well as the general rules that prevent mistakes. Honestly I thought this was more of a wrestling demo because of the shoes and the mats lol. But then I heard you mention the guillotine and saw the title of the video Jiu-Jitsu map, not that it matters because I just wanted some more insight on the single leg especially. Just gotta remember single leg=head on the inside & double leg=head on the outside!
@NinjaWarriorDude Yes, my coach says u can but if u do this u can put the guys leg between ur legs and hold it there if u just to keep the leg in ur hands then step to the outside
@HonestlyIDontCareLol Yeah, I hear you. Well it's been a while after my post and I've actually started getting the hang of the penetration step for a take-down. Took me a while to figure out then I realized my leg was too stiff and I just needed to let it bend and flop over. Keeping my front leg relaxed helped a massive deal.
it's meh there are always counters to everything Whenever I do a double leg when I'm rolling they usually fall into guillotine position but since I know what's coming i make sure to clear the legs so I can get it to half guard or side control also keeping my chin down after the landing or keeping one hand on his wrist. If they keep holding on to my head after I pass their guard I'll just switch to the Von Flue (Shoulder) choke which is the counter for people with stubborn guillotines.
just elijah I don't think hurting your knee a little bit would be a real problem in a street fight. If you complete the takedown, it surely pays off. He is going to hurt his back more than you are going to hurt your knee if you know the technique.
People can think about them in a real fight, be careful of speaking for everyone on the planet. If there is any moment during the fight when no boom boom is happening, you can think, a good example being the clinch possibly. Also, if you're saying techniques are pointless since you don't have time to think, even when that occurs technique will still be there as a natural thing, if you trained it, and it is how you will perform the move. Lastly, how does your answer even go with the question??
It's something you're built with. I'm personally built like a tree trunk so i make a good wrestler. if you don't have the proper build it probably won't pan out.
i guess that is true, but he's still no slouch. and i think it's a little ridiculous to say that Jake shields isn't an effective wrestler, and does singles with his head on the outside
Sakuraba clearly also went for single leg takedowns, head on the outside, as well. He is pretty legit in his wrestling knowledge and was great at the single leg takedown. So why did he so that, if it was such a bad move, really?
liukang85 saku is my favorite of all time but that rule is pretty crystal clear. Single head inside, double outside. Maybe it’s preference, maybe they teach is different in Japan?
I fucking hate this so much. Everyone wants to learn MMA so they can win street fights. Youre given powerful knowledge and everyone abuses it. You only use what you've learned in self defense and matches. Day 1 youre told you will learn how to be disciplined and have self control. All everyone hears is that they're gunna learn how to take anyone down
Head on inside for singles is BS. Yes it is fine to put ur head on the inside but outside works too. Just look at daniel cormier's slam on Josh barnett. a head on outside single is also known as a high crotch
