First time Sea-Doo GTX-230 Oil Change. How did I do it? Well, step by step.
I am a FIRST TIME SEA-DOO OWNER. So If I can change the oil, the oil filter and the spark plugs, so can you!
$20.80 ATPEAM 12V 60W Oil Change Pump Extractor:
a.co/d/4pqN3eH
$82.99 Sea Doo Oil Change Kit W/Filter O Rings & Spark Plugs 4-Tec GTI GTX RXP RXT GTR: a.co/d/5drXdQd
$8.11 LEAKTITE 10M3-50 5-Quart Mixing Container
a.co/d/2pqNu3H
Total $111.90
So from now on I will be saving another $28.91 because I now have the oil extractor and the bucket.

Nice video. I always put a towel under and around areas that I might drop a part….that way you have a fighting chance of fumble recovery. Also, I don’t drop the plugs in….that can bugger up the gap. Instead, I put the plug in the socket and hand spin it in…less risk of cross threading. Only when fully hand threaded do I put the socket wrench on. Most Rotax 4-stroke engines want plugs torqued to about 20-22 foot pounds. Dielectric grease on the coil sockets as well….eases the next service removal.

Hey Deric if you go ahead & pull up on the link attachments prior to removing the cover they will just stay hooked on the cover & you won’t have to line them up when putting it back on - also use a magnetic spark plug socket as it helps hold the plug while removing & hand threading it back in I’m the same age as you & bought my first SeaDoo in 2021. When you go to a jet ski that has been sitting, gravity and time has done you a favor. The most oil will have settled in the pan. This oil should be syphoned up. After no more oil comes up, turn the engine over a few times to get what is left. Turning a cold engine over as you did, spreads the oil all over the engine again. I would be inclined to keep the new spark plugs for a later time,as 12 hours is not a whole lot of use!

I see someone mentioned anti-seize on the spark pug threads: 100% that. At least as important- your spark plug insertion method is vulnerable to cross threading and thread stripping. That spark plug socket is designed to retain a plug via friction. Insert plug into socket, insert extension into socket, then guide the plug into threaded hole and start insertion **by hand** before putting a wrench to it. 100% there's a torque setting for those plugs- use a torque wrench.

Just rolling the engine with the key wont heat the oil,Best bet would be take it for a ride then change oil, if not use a couple hose methods in succession, the idea behind oil being hot is , cold will leave particulates in the oil pan, hit oil will suspend dirt witch will exit when you suction the oil out.& when that ski is in the water I am sure the engine is level, i am surprised its not mentioned in the owners Manuel not to level with the tongue jack

All Sea Doos are overfilled with oil from the factory. Don't over fill to the top of the oil stick. This will cause oil to be drawn into the intercooler and all the hoses and rob you of horsepower as well as oil filled cooler. Not good. Need a catch can on all supercharged engines. Its a must have. JP racing is the best one. I have a 2023 rxt 300 and a 2023 gtx 230 exactly like yours. OIl catch cans on both and haven't even been in water yet.

Great video Deric! I also have a couple suggestions for ya. Please don't drop the spark plugs in, you could change your gap or worse break the ceramic and have it fall inside the cylinder. Last suggestion, please put anti-seize on those spark plug threads, you don't want them seizing in the head. Lots of experience working on stuff, first time Sea-Doo buyer though. Mine is currently on order. Bought the same thing. Was going to go for the 300 until I saw the 230 uses the same engine, basically all the same specs, but 91 octane isn't required for the 230.

I want to learn so I can take care of my own Sea Doo, well for the small things anyway. As far as the anti-seizing for the spark plug, I did read up on the NK plugs and they are already "anti-seizing plugs" so its not needed. From what I found out. (even going to NK plug website) So I put that theory out in one of my groups I belon to and then got 50, 50 that said anti not needed and some said do it anyway, it cant hurt. But then some said if put on the anti-seize on then it changes things. But as I said in the vid, I AM NOT mechanically inclined. So I appreciate all the feedback that I can get.
