Great video, as usual. I was just wondering how you are protecting your solar panels if there were an EMP event. You are a prepper and all your Solar generators will do you no good (eventually) without the panels. Everyone talks about generators, but nobody talks about how to EMP hardened or protect panels that are not attached and are sitting in a closet waiting to be used. The ones that are attached to a unit and operating would be fried in an NP event but just curious if you have any thoughts on the subject of protecting solar panels. Have a great idea. Great day. Thanks again for your videos
Thank you for asking. EMP only effects electronic equipment. Solar panels are not electronic. Therefore, they are not effected by an EMP. Solar power system inverters and charge controllers need to be protected from EMP. That is why I use this product: LDSPrepper.com/empshield to protect my charge controllers and inverters.
Thank you so very much for your prompt and edifying reply. I had read, in various places, that the actual solar panel calls themselves could be damaged in an EMP event making they solar panel much less effective. Hopefully that information was incorrect. Again, thank you
@@LDSPrepper I missed this before responding to your last iMessage. Again, thank you and I will check out the protection for the charge controllers and inverters. I have a bluetti system and contacted them. This is their response, which made me wonder and send you this question. Thanks. Bluetti: Just as a reminder, you asked: Apologies for not being clear enough. I asked the last question about the solar panels being EMP hardened. I understand if an EMP occurred and the solar panels were connected to the solar generator, They would be fried. But if the solar panels are not connected to the generator, but kept in their case in a closet, will they be affected by an EMP. That was the intent to my question. Here is our answer: Since an EMP is theoretical it has not been tested on the solar panel. It is our understanding that anything electronic could be damaged/destroyed so the box that the cables are connected to on the panel could be destroyed as well. Thank you for your inquiry!
@@Buzzy-bm6bv Interesting response. EMP's are no theoretical. They are real. Anyone who has heard about the Carrington event knows that. Russia's power grid and military are hardened against an EMP. I understand China has done the same. The US has decided not to do that.
@@LDSPrepper fully understand your point. I suppose their point is that they never tested it, so they can’t/won’t give an opinion based on those (lack of) tests. My goal is NOT to have to find large enough faraday cages to put each of my 3 350V solar panels in. YOu helped me understand that the primary thing I need to concern myself with isn’t the panels but the inverter and the charge thing (forget the name). Finding out where they are related to the panels. If they are in the solar generator, then I don’t have to worry. Finding out. But thank you very much for your kind, quick, courteous and edifying responses. Hope people treat you as kindly as you treat your viewers
