In this video, I explain how to download a Panopto video in 2022. If they change the file type again, I’ll make an updated video. FYI, apparently not all Panopto videos have audio and video separated, which will make our lives easier until they change it again. Thanks for watching.
@@sydneym3251 sorry. I am asking why it downloads only until 8s of 40 mins. Can you help me with this? I am using vlc; the panotpp video is played in microsoft edge, windows 11 pc. I did what u did, which is heaad to network from inspect code, then search mu bla bla. (cant rmrb what it is), the paste in vlc and play, and convert it. But only 8s...
@@Useryoutube26813 it sounds like an issue with VLC then. Try restarting VLC to see if that removes the problem. Typically, any problem I have with it is resolved if I just restart it. Also check to see if your version of VLC is up to date. If not, update it. If there’s multiple links to choose from for your video, try using another one. Sometimes, one can be faulty. Hope this helps!
Awesome resource. Others have mentioned issues with the slides, slides are stored both as a series of images and as slides. Use the images and overlay the sound from the classroom video works for me.
This is helpful! However, my panopto has a slide deck. I can download the audio and video as one file, but how can I download and incorporate the slide deck? Edit: It appears that the slide deck is a bunch of images. However, it would be an extreme pain to try to individually download all the images and this still doesn't combine it with the lecture. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for making this, though I'm only getting one file in the network inspect which has both video and audio and while it plays alright while streaming in VLC as soon as I convert to MP4 it seems to mess with the file. The MP4 will play for a second and then crashes on most other players. On VLC it just freezes the video and for a bit the audio is okay, but then the player starts to glitch with the progress bar looking like it's searching (sort of sweeping pulse of the VLC orange color). Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
Thank you so much. This worked but I used "HD Video Converter" and I just had to use one M3U8 URL. The audio and video worked together without having to download twice. (I have Windows 10)
This is becoming so frustrating to me. I need captions or a transcript. But that isn't available. I've tried everything just to try and download the video but nothing is working. When I try your method, I'm only given two m3u8 files and neither of them is the video or sound. I'm banging my head into the wall.......
Panopto should have a caption option, meaning there should be a subtitle file embedded in the video. It’s just a matter of finding it, downloading it, and incorporating it into the video. Try searching for mp4 files instead. Some people have been saying some Panopto videos still use it
Hi, I really appreciate the tutorial and I was able to successfully download a video from Canvas. I was wondering if you knew how to download the subtitles from the Canvas video? When I played the video through the VLC network stream, I was able to select the subtitles of the video. However, after downloading the video I did not see an option to add subtitles.
Hello! I’m glad you found the video helpful. In VLC, subtitles are added by importing a subtitle file. VLC supports the subtitle files in .sub and .srt, among others. I’m not sure if there are subtitle files embedded in Panopto videos, but you can try searching for it where you’d search for m3u8 files. Good luck!
I tried finding the PowerPoint for one of my lectures and only saw the first slide used as the thumbnail. It might only be accessible if the video owner allows the slideshow to be downloaded, in which case there should just be a Download Slides button to click
It is slow a lot of time for me, but not all the time. Check your internet speed and compare to your downloading speed to see if it’s VLC that’s slow or your network
@@plineepsiplineepsi2718 hmm unless your processor is terrible, I don’t see why a typical laptop should have much of a problem downloading and converting a video. It’s likely vlc that’s slow if you have 500MBps. Vlc sometimes crashes for me and it’s unusable for a few days on top of being slow. If you need to download many videos, it’s probably worth it to look into a different software.
It’s a different process with Mac. You need to go to File < Open Network. Then paste the m3u8 link and stream. It’ll add it in your “playlist” where you’ll see a title and duration. Then go to File < Convert/ Stream and drag the file from your Playlist to that pop up. Then you can choose the file type you want to export and click “save as file”
This method does not work through Canvas. You need to type the title of your video into Panopto and from there, follow the steps in the video. Let me know if you have any more questions !
@@sydneym3251 Giiiirl thank u soooo much it works !!! I typed "MP4" and I had the audio and video in the same link Omg u saved my life I sweeeaaar ❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭
