Like, Comment, & Subscribe POV DRIVE showing you guys how I downshift. This probably not the only way but I’ve never had clutch issues so take it with a grain of salt. IG:TrapWrx SC:TrapWrx
I learned the same way on old beaters. It's basically a super slow double-clutch, and you are likely doing the rev-match on the way out, so you're halfway there already!
Not gonna lie just got a 2022 wrx and your videos have def helped. You doing good G. Keep holding it down appreciate ya for just being more helpful than you know.
NEVER down shift to firsts if you’re driving already or even moving. shit will jolt like there’s no tomorrow! ( speaking from my experience learning how to drive Manual)
Not if you rev match carefully. But yes rarely need to change into 1st (Steep hill for engine braking), what he did in the video is coasting and you would fail your UK driving test for coasting that much.
Thanks for the video, I like your content. I've had my '21 wrx for a few years now and I'm definitely not 100% smooth with downshifts. For 6 -> 5, the rpm difference is so small, I might overblip if I'm not careful. 3 -> 2 requires a lot more blip in the 25-30+ mph range and I undershoot it every now and then. I used to get frustrated / embarrassed at the mistakes but I realized those moments are just part of learning the car. It's hard to drive perfectly. Hitting that perfect downshift is so satisfying though 😌
Nice, good to hear! I like to tell people try to understand the science behind what you are doing. What is it that the clutch is doing to the gears & trans, while I blip the gas?…
Nice!! Congrats on the WHIP!! Glad I was able to help even a little. I’m sure you’ll be good by then but I’ll upload a how to drive manual video sometime soon.
@@TrapWRX please do man. I sort of got the hang of it. Finally drove to work today in it. Only stalled it once, and it was when I was pulling into my parking spot 😂
That’s great progress tho. The STI clutch is definitely less forgiving and if you can master that you can drive any clutch. Just finally finished my brake job after a major fail but more videos finally on the way!
@@TrapWRX sweet bro. My “new car” just CEL’d last night, and now I’m trying to scramble to figure out what is going on with my engine. Keep me in your prayers!! Headache after headache lol 😂
Good vid bro, audio sounds perfect this time. Definitely is hard to explain downshifting, just gotta practice practice practice and get the hang of it, it becomes like second nature. Each gear is different when you down shift, and some require a bit more finesse. I don't bother downshifting all the way to 1st either when I know I am going to come to a complete stop, I just put her in neutral and coast.
Great video! Your start off from a stop is so smooth I’m still trying to figure how how to get the car rolling in 1st from a stop smoothly. Any secret?
I would suggest feathering the gas peddle to take off until you get a hang of where that bite point is. If you tap the gas with your right foot while letting go the clutch with the left foot. you’ll find it’s a little cheat code to take off but not the smoothest looking wise if we’re being honest but it gets the job done for 1st gear.
@@TrapWRX yea hopefully picking her up Saturday, sad part is I’m not doing the drive home back 😂 I’m too new. I’m type sketched out to drive an hour on the highway back home
@@TrapWRX how long have you had her and what’s like regular maintenance I’ve seen other videos but they never really be real about it just about running thru gas, clutch or do oil change on time or just before you have to go… so like what’s else to should expect could happen and the car I’m getting is stock all thru and 17k miles.
I feel you. When I got my first car, a Honda civic EX manual I had never driven manual before but I had the guy selling it take me around the blocks and a couple times to show me and then I drove back home with my dad tailing me. And I learned on that drive home.
I had her since she made landing from the port. I got it brand new with 2 or 12 miles on it do quite remember but I’ve only done regular maintenance. Like Oil changes, tires and I just did brakes myself. That would’ve been the biggest cost so far ~$4k. But if you keep up on time with regular service you should be be perfect. I haven’t had any issue but I’m also stock like you are. I’ve always gone to the dealership as well for my service and they have recommendations I probably did once or twice at like 25k and 50k. And every 5k miles service I do service. Runs me about $500 at the most with some of their recommendations but no less than $75 when it’s just an oil change.
It depends, if you’re not fast enough then you hold to find the biting point as if you were taking off from 1st, but if you are fast with the blip and shift change, and hit the rpm right with the blip, then you don’t have to hold the clutch to biting point it should catch perfectly you wouldn’t even feel anything, giving you a smooth downshift
Hey actually interested in a WRXbase '21, could be more practical to get the 2.0 na civic, but ive had an auto wrx impreza '09 so wanted i suppose advise or opinion from an owner. Also tryna see what to expect from the shifter, do also know how to drive stick just not a Subaru
WRX shifter is pretty easy and smooth, but I’ve had a STI short throw shifter on from factory since I got the car so my experience may be a little bit different but the clutch and shifter is all the original and has been smooth
@@TrapWRX what I've come across is the throws are shorter in the STi as well, so maybe something that can be upgraded, that's sweet tho you got the short throw off the bat but to decide on a vehicle is the first course of action, appreciate your input and video!
Actually don’t have an actual mount I’m using my go pro head mount strap and I’m putting it through my head rest and holding it up there. Weird setup but it works
Gotta commend this brotha. It's harder to explain it when you just know how to do it. Lol!!! Like trying to explain to someone using specific words how to walk. Lol!!!
The best way to tell would be to google it, if you weren’t told when you bought it. I’m sure google will have the answer but I know of only a few cars like the new Toyota Corollas and mustangs to rev match.
I like to tap the brake first before anything to get the rpms and speed down but the downshift happens fast enough that I just lightly brake right after the whole process IF I need to Because the down shift is helping me stop
