This is lovely, thank you. Do you have a video of sewing this? I'm still learning and I'm not sure if I have my mind fully around it going together. Would be fun to see the finished product too. Thanks
Hi! This is the first time I have seen you on RU-vid & this is the first video I have watched. I was wondering if you have a video tutorial of you making the skirt itself? I struggle with CFS & Fibromyalgia. As a part of this, if the fatigue & constant chronic pain wasn’t enough, I struggle with Fibro Fog. This is where my mind goes blank which can last for a few minutes to hours & even days. Even something simple like how to tie my shoe laces or how to spell easy common words which I have been doing since I was little, I can sense I know how to do it or spell it, but it feels like a veil of fog is hiding that information from me which is frustrating. And it drives me crazy at times. I used to make clothes for my daughter when she was little as she is disabled & needs help with personal care. So buying her trousers meant buying them bigger than she needed them just to make room for continence pads. But we would have to take them in later, or in an emergency, she would wear them in her wheelchair unaltered until we could get home. So I used to like making them for her. But since I started getting Fibro Fog, I would cut out my patterns & have a total mind blank on seeing them together. So I rely on videos a lot more now to save me from going days until I remembered how to do it again. And being in a small home, I put the cut out pattern away & forget about it for ages. I would personally love it if you had a part two to this video for taking the pattern pieces & making the skirt. I feel this would benefit not just myself, but those in my shoes where they struggle with memory problems to those making the skirt for the first time & thinking of my sisters & my fiancé, those who have never made an item of clothing from scratch that have children of their own that really want a homemade item of clothing & they are at a loss on what to do with the pattern pieces once cut out. On another note, a question that I do not feel I am alone in trying to find out the answer to. This is also related to my daughter. She has severe Scoliosis. She has just had prom & trying to find her a dress or a beautiful top that she could wear & it fit her body without being too tight one side & looser on the other, or raised up or hangs lower than the other side of her body. And being in a wheelchair that is moulded to the shape of her back & hips, excess fabric or ruckled up at the back can cause pressure sores. So my question to you is, do you know how to design or adjust patterns that will make clothes have a more tailored, comfortable fit for men & women who has Scoliosis? I am asking as I want to make her a bridesmaids dress for our wedding this year & I would love to make her a stunning two piece dress that will fit her body & will help her feel comfortable. I can then recommend subscribing to your channel to her friends family members so that they too can learn. Anyway, thank you for this brilliant video. I look forward to watching more of them.
Love love you tutorials, I always wanted to learn how to make clothes patterns and now I can, your make it so simple that anyone can follow your step by Stephen approach and do it without any headach thanks you and keep it coming. When I complete my outfit I will send a pic.
Hallo Kim I really like you tutorials their easy to understand, am new in sewing but with you tips have learned a lot. Can you apload a video on how to take measurements on boys, cutting collars and sewing them.
I wanna know how you put it on the fabric, like how to det the flares on to it, cause i can’t see how am suppose to do that on the fabric. I don’t really get it, so you put them on the fabric like you would with an arm skiss?
Kim You are a sweet heart! I love watching your videos. Keep teaching! I am training myself to be a designer. I am going to use what you have taught in this video to make a mermaid evening gown. I have a question because I also want to also make an evening gown with a circle skirt using horsehair braid in the hem. I have 6 inch and I believe it is too wide. Should I purchase a smaller braid such as 3 inches to use instead?
Thanks for the love dear ☺️ As for your question, 6 inches is on the wide side but it might work if the dress length & the horse braid trim work well together length wise. It might be tricky to walk with. Else, you can get the 3 inches one and double it for fullness. Hope I’ve been helpful 😃
hi please please post the video of bell shaped skirt pattern or trapeze front (2 pieces) and 3 gores from back for a mermaid skirt pattern with train with zipper in the middle at back . how to draw half gore and full gore
It seems to be a 7 pcs skirt. 4 pcs at the back and 3 from the front. Im new to all this but why is it called six pcs. Am I missing something?. I hope somebody replies to me.
Hi Kim, I have another question which is, you took out the dart in order to get more curvage, but what happens to the amount that was decreased by taking out the dart?
Kim I put the cutting in half to a little test. I will not work. I too about a 2 inch section, cut it in half and it began to ravel along the cut edges.
Lillian Burton BAD GRAMMAR!!! PLEASE EXCUSE! Kim I put the cutting in half to a little test. It will not work. I too about a 2 inch section, cut it in half and it began to ravel along the cut edges. Thanks for your help.
No dear! I am referring to the 6 inch horsehair braid, whether or not I could cut it in half to make it 3 inches, since 6 inches is too wide for a hem. I put it to a small test to see the horsehair's behavior. That will not work! The best thing to do is buy 3 inch horsehair. That what I was talking about. However, I drape my patterns, but I am planning to use your technique on drafting the skirt. Once again, thanks for your time and attention. You are a great teacher!!!
Thanks so much for responding so quickly. I ask because the center piece is flared on both ends at the end so it will require me to bend the folded part at the bottom. It would be easier if the flare was not on the folded edge. I hope I've made sense.
I understand what you mean. But the centre front is straight meaning if you place your pattern along a folded edge and cut, when you open up the cut out panel you will have your flared bottom ends on both sides.
Kim Dave I probably getting something very confused and please indulge me one last time the CF fold line doesn't run through as a straight line it bends at the knee for the flare (see 6:19). When I fold my material and align with the fold I will loose a third of the flare at the fold. Should I modify the pattern to have the CF line run straight to the bottom instead of flaring at both sides?
