How to draw a bird with the tin of 12 pastel pencils from Faber Castell - does it work? Tins of 12 pastel pencils are so common but are they any good?

For wildlife drawings, I would use the following 12 pencils (buy them individually), instead of the tin of 12!
Faber Castell 199 - Black
Faber Castell 101 - White
Faber Castell 177 - Walnut Brown
Faber Castell 182 - Ochre Dark
Faber Castell 132 - Light Pink
Faber Castell 180 - Brown
Faber Castell 187 - Orange
Faber Castell 283 - Red Brown
Faber Castell 181 - Dark Grey
Faber Castell 273 - Mid Grey
Faber Castell 270 - Light Grey
Faber Castell 102 - Ivory
Which paper do I use?
I use Clairfontaine Pastelmat Paper and Board. This was on a light blue.

Hi Emily i live in Aus, and am in love with our wildlife particularly birds, so this should be really helpful and most of all your art is truly beautiful and aw inspiring, im used to using prismacolours so im excited to get my feet wet with a new medium and ill definitely be watching your channel on the regular. You’re welcome, Dave! It’s a bit of a cheap and dirty tutorial as I would really like to teach better techniques, however, if you’ve only got a few colours then go for it!

Hi, have just come across your channel and subscribed. I've been using coloured pencils but would really love to try the pastels and your tutorials look great. I've been on to Jacksons art supplies to order the pencils you list but they're coming up with different names.eg. 102 is cream not ivory. Light pink is beige red etc. They are faber castell pitt pastel pencils.Just want to check that I'm ordering the right thing as I do want to do wildlife/pets. Could you advise please, thanx

I wonder why you didn't color the chest entirely green first and then gone in with black and white or the eraser to create the contrast. Wouldn't that have been easier?
