Oh my goodness! Thank you, Elsa! This was just what I needed to hear today! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! I’m working on doing a better job of building this channel - stay tuned! 💕💝💕
Tara, great video! This one seems like a very popular video for you. Maybe you can think about doing a series of videos like this one for other features, like one on feet, beaks, feathers, etc. I think they would be very useful to folks as well. BTW, I'm also a Ph.D. biologist who is getting into art in his mid-50s (and hopefully into retirement!). Thanks!
Thanks again! Yes, this one has done really well. I really want to invest more time in building content for this channel and a series like you mention is great idea. Stay tuned!
Hi Tara! I am a new artist and also recently completed a series of one on one lessons with Annamieka Hopps Davidson, who referred me to your RU-vid channel. I also recently watched your tutorial on how to draw bird's eyes. It was so enlightening. I am wondering what kind of pencils you used in this tutorial to do such precise work. I want to invest in some pencils for fine detailed work and would love your recommendation.
Hi Sue! Thanks so much for watching! Annamieka is wonderful, isn’t she? I use a Pentel Graphgear 500 0.3 with HB lead. There’s link in the description. 😃 I also use a Tombow MonoZero eraser for tiny detail erasing. Sometimes I even sharpen the eraser with an X-acto blade so I can be very precise with it. Let me know if you have any more questions! ❤️
@@tarakate4925 Hi Tara, great video! Question about your pencil. I have started copying some of your drawing, just for practice, and I'm having trouble getting dark enough. I don't have the Pentel Graphgear pencil yet, but I'm using HB and even 2B. Any suggestions on getting real dark? BTW, I hate the "graphite shine" and would like to avoid that if I can. Thanks!
@@chriswhitehouse8982 Thanks, Chris! I'm using the same HB lead for everything. I just build up lots of layers to get very dark darks. I do get some graphite shine with the Pentel leads but it's not bothersome. don't know how much difference there is between different manufacturers of graphite leads. I'm guessing that not all leads have the exact same composition but I don't know for sure.
No, that wouldn’t change much about the rest of the eye. You’d just need to pay close attention to where the reflection falls with respect to the pupil shape. Thanks for watching!
