I must say, you are probably the only RU-vidr to have: Talked about why anatomy is important. Shown how to draw it. EXPLAINED it. Talked about CONCEPTS. SIMPLIFIED and described. I thank you so much, because what I have learned here I can very, very easily apply to drawings from my imagination, from life, I have good knowledge of all main muscles, what they are and what they do, but you just ... Yeah, all said above. You charged nothing, and did it purely out of good intention. You sir are a true artist - Thank you and best wishes!!!!!
There are many components to learning human anatomy. One plan I found that succeeds in merging these is the Anatomy Blueprint Pro (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most useful info that I have ever seen. Check out this great resource.
Kieran McMahon I completely agree with you. I've been looking for a video like this for a long time, no one really explained how anything worked while drawing the body part.
So many "How to Draw" videos never teach you technique or give you anything to master skill, they just say "you'll get it eventually." However, you are teaching technique and I thank you so much for that this really TEACHES you about the body.
***** i just found my sensei * *instant subscribe** such beautiful work you did there, i was moved and empowered me to continue on this road of drawing. i seriously been searching for months on videos like this..even made requests to people on other channels tutorials..sadly none of them explained squat all, all they said keep practicing. THEN today i dont what came over me i just searched again after giving for months and if found you sir. GODLY TUTORIAL, definitely best one i have seen. your methods of teaching are magnificent..are a teacher in school by any chance? either way its hard to come by a great tutor like you. i will drill this into my head till it becomes my second nature, those 14 people disliked this tut knows nothing + ungrateful THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE. GOD BLESS
youre very welcome. Thanks so much. I spent along time tryingto understand and simplify anatomy for myself and until I developed this concept. I now just try to teach it in the way I wish I were taught. Glad it helped :-)
That is easily a slippery slop to a state where the recipient gets a false understanding. I many times have to reeducate patients amout medicine or medical assistance because the nurses and doctors have simplified it to the point of opening up to inferences and subjective interpretation.
RT HJ that also happens even when you give a lot of details. It stills leaves the topic up for subjective interpretation. We are subjective beings , for the most part.
@@rthj6446 The quote should be rather interpretated as: "If you cannot explain it using only the most necessary items, then you do not know it well enough." As I can definetly agree that instead of only using the most necessary parts, people often explain things by not using anything and just comparing it to something else that is kind of simmilar.
@eris if you’re still wondering, yes. I’m literally taking notes on this video like I’m back in school, and I‘m finding it very helpful to draw alongside him on this one hahah
There are many components to studying human anatomy. One place I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Anatomy Blueprint Pro (google it if you're interested) definately the most incredible info that I have ever seen. Check out this amazing resource.
If you is interested in human anatomy the greatest results that I have had was with the Anatomy Blueprint Pro (i found it on google) without a doubt the most incredible info that I have ever tried.
I've attended to several drawing schools, and anatomy has never been explained to me so clearly and purposefully (hoping that word exist) Keep up the great work, man
at first i watched this and i was like .. no way! theres no way i can learn from this, i cant even draw the legs / arms yet on my own let alone muscles too, its too complicated!!! but then i was like... whatever!... and i followed along and drew out what you drew (honestly - it looked pretty bad, especially my arms lol!) and i highlighted the muscles like you did, and now that i've come back to this video again i've realized i'm glad i followed along even though at the beginning i thought there was no way i was ready for muscles yet, but it actually helped a lot so thanks :D whenever i do tutorials, and ive done A LOT. i forget what i've learned and move on to the next thing - but it feels like you've actually taught me someting useful and i didnt waste my time, so thanks :) i dont leave comments much but just felt like sharing:-)
This is the best I've seen in 6 years of failing in learning how to draw, and I can't believe it's free... This is literally the best I've seen in RU-vid. There's no thank you big enough, the day I know how to draw , I wanna be like you and share completely free my knowledge about drawing, you're and inspiration, a guide and a light of hope, thank you.
Took notes, shared the video, now proceeding to watch hours and hours of your tutorials. Honestly, I just love the way you explain everything, I want to get better at art but its kind of hard for me since I'm a more technical learner, this really just helps. So thanks!
+Pyxus Gaming Some advice to hone your art skills is to draw from imagination and start with gesture drawings without looking at a reference, it will help you loosen you up.
@Joy Kennedy please don't draw from imagination when practicing gesture drawing. Always use a reference. If you do end up doing so, your drawings will end up looking wonky and out of proportion.
As others have said, you explain concepts that we can apply our own way, that's true understanding, not memorizing. That line if balance is brilliant and as soon as you draw the body/arm I could see the structural similarity and as you describe the front/back muscle functions of stretching and straightening I moved my arm and could feel what you were on about. I actually understand it. Kind of fits with Newton's 3rd law actually. Great stuff mate, cheers!
Hi, I'm 71 years old and I'm starting to draw. I bought your book, a sketching pad, a kit with pencils, charcoal, erasers, sharpeners and I also bought a manequin and a kit of ink pens. I can't wait to start. I was a classical musician for over 30 years so I know what discipline is as far as practice is concerned. I like your logical explanations. Thank you.
I really wanna learn anathomy I've been drawing "wrong" for almost 2 years now i never found the right way for me to learn how to understand The human body. I am so glad i found this video really, i see so many mistakes that i've done. You are great thank you so much for the help
day 6 in a row i visit this video to refresh my memory. Recently started drawing bodies and holy shit i've improved SO much just by taking my time watching this. great work. very simple explanation, clearly you know what people new to the subject want to hear. hat off you to you good sir
Best anatomy intro I have ever seen. I wish normal anatomy books would teach me these fundamentals instead of taking me through an encyclopedia of crap i don't understand.
***** Sorry that must of sounded kind of rude. I was wondering if you have any advice on building on anatomical knowledge without having to know every single muscle. Your video really helped me get a general understanding about how muscles work and i was wondering on how i can build on that, thanks
lol true. Its just that unfortunately you have people who are just making a quick buck an all they do is create diagrams with a long list of anatomical terms to memorize. Thats not teaching, especially artists
I agree, i guess it's more about finding the right book for what you're looking for. "The hard way" seems like best option for now lol. Thank you both for your help! :D
When you "have a grip" you have a basic understanding and I have an "appreciation" of both the concept of the muscles and you - you are amazing! Thank you!!!♥
This is the best anatomy tutorial I have found on the internet. I have been looking at anatomy tutorials for quite some time now and none of them have helped me as much as this one. I recommend this to anyone who is new to anatomy because this is very easy to understand. You just earned a subscriber.
I know you hear this all the time, but thank youuuuuuuu for uploading all of the videos. They've helped me where many other RU-vid channels "How To Draw ______" books and websites couldn't. :)
This is really well done. I like that you explain it in overarching concepts rather than just listing muscles without giving any insight into their function and how they move. Thanks.
I appreciate this video so much! A long time ago when I was in middle school my mom entered me into an art program at an art school that was supposed to teach you anatomy, but the only thing he did was show us the 8-head rule and aside from that, told us nothing else. We were supposed to figure everything else out on our own. The classes were 3 hours long but most of it was done in silence. He didn't even give us specific work to draw, just said, "Use your own references." I thought maybe I just didn't have any talent and it's been several years then - I'm 22 now. I have a friend who's RIDICULOUSLY good at drawing and I've wanted to learn how to for so long but didn't even know where to start! I've tried using nude stock photos, tried copying the art style of other artists, etc. but I was NEVER happy with how it turned out because I honestly didn't understand how things operated. Said friend told me to nail the basics first, but I didn't really understand what he meant. All I got from it was to learn proportions and learn how the body parts are shaped before you bend them - he said my main issue was that I was always trying to draw things in motion when I didn't even know how to draw them at their most basic forms. So, I came here and I think I get a little bit of what he was saying now. I can say that this helped me understand how things operate more so than I did before.
I love how you really get excited when you explain about this! Thank you so much! Great tutorial, very detailed, watched more than once - helped me out a lot!
Best Videos I've seen on the human anatomy yet, I really hope you teach a drawing class because you really helped me understand this so much and made it easy.
I just came here to learn how to draw, and this is the first video I've seen to explain it to me in depth and quickly as well. Many thanks to the poster.
Hello Alphonso! I just started figure drawing a month ago and came across your video. As a medical doctor, I have to say that your portrayal of anatomy is both scientific and accessible. Thank you!
I think Alphonsos vids are so great cause he gets to the point and whoever doesnt have 30 minutes to dedicate to art will probably never learn it anywhere else either!!! I DIDNT CHANGE MY NAME FOR NOTHING THIS DUDE IS A LIFE CHANGER!!! THX ALPHONSO FOR ANOTHER ENLIGHTENING VID. YOU DA MAN :)
never heard of you just 20 seconds in and i've subscribed baby a lil advice though i think you should get yourself a HD camera throw in some edit in the videos with some cool transitions like proko and take this to the next level again this was really helpful, i signed up for an anatomy course and honestly i found this way more informative, thanks alot
Holy damn This was godlike, you did something I really appreciate in teaching You taught the basic concept nearly everything uses, and showed how it is applied. You didn't try to leave out details that are too in-depth but kept in everything that is needed and nothing more. Making me actually interested in learning anatomy full on, although I don't have time for that currently I am wanting to learn 5 completely different fields in their entirety.
It was honestly so hard for some reason to find this kind of info. You're the best, man. I really hope I can figure out how to wrap my mind around all of this!!
Just started to draw, and keep looking for ways to learn and improve. No matter how much I dig, I keep coming back to Alphoso. Clear, direct, passionate. Thank you very much!!!
There are several factors in studying anatomy. One plan I found which successfully combines these is the Sebs Study Crammer (check it out on googIe) definately the best course i've heard of. Check out this unbelievable site.
dude for real, thanks, i have ben drawing anatomy for a few months and i still didnt know how they relate, or how they work all together but watching youre videos helped me alot :D thanks alot man :)
I first learned anatomy over 30 years ago for a regulated health discipline. Although we learned about opposing and synergistic muscle groups, I believe if we were educated by an anatomist who was also an artist, the mechanical concepts would have been more revelatory, better contextualized and memorable. You have done a great service here, Alphonso. Thank you.
I'm finally, after a few years of animal drawings, getting into drawing humans. This is helping me tons! You're teaching me more than art class ever did, I thank you so much for this. You are a true gift to this world.
Most anatomical videos for artists (for me personally) are too technical and confusing, whilst others are not explained properly at all, yours sir, is brilliantly explained. I've never quite seen a tutorial video like this before. Hands down, you're amazing. Now, back to digesting those tidbits I've learnt from your video....
After watching Trent Kaniuga's video, "Why many artists stop growing.", I came to realize that I should go back to the fundamentals of art. I was really planning to do futuristic sci-fi art but I am not really that good so I took Trent's advice. A lot of tutorials online were paid (and I'm not angry about it) so my broke-ass stumbled upon your vid. Honestly, you provide great content and I have learned so much from it.
I started drawing a few months ago and have put off learning anatomy and drawing people because it just seems so daunting. I never knew where to begin because most “tutorials” already expect you do have a grasp on it. This is the one that I’ve been able to follow with, understand, and practice without feeling lost. Thank you so much!
Great job!!!!!!!!! So far the most simple, direct and clear way to start understand anatomy. Many many thanks!!!!!! Very much looking forward for more lessons from you!!!
I just wanna take a minute to say how amazing you are as not only an artist but a teacher as well. You single-handedly leveled my ability in a SINGLE video. I've been taking classes for about a week or two and I was struggling with where to start learning anatomy in a way that I could apply the principles that I've already learned. As soon as I watched this video, I re-watched it while I was at my drawing tablet and was immediately able to draw a human figure far better than I had been able to prior to that. Thank you so much for the work you are doing in the art community. I'll be purchasing your books very shortly, and look forward to looking through the rest of your videos while I complete school.
Sabamonster YT , I have spent months researching into human anatomy and discovered a fantastic website at Anatomy Blueprint Pro (check it out on google)
i learned in the first 7 minutes more than these mainstream youtubers who sell these advices for money. and now i understood these better since I'm working with an anatomy book
I've noticed something in all your videos and just wanted to ask. Why do you sharpen your pencil like that? Oh, and another great video! I find myself clicking the "like" button most times before I even watch your stuff. Man I'd love to hang out with you all day and just get drawing tips. That's not strange at all right? I mean asking a stranger from RU-vid to hang out right?? Ha! Just kidding as long as one of has a windowless van I'm sure it will be fine;-) (just a little humor)
One of my art instructors did the same thing, now I do it as well. For us it was because it just allowed us to get a better angle and to be able to use more of the surface area of the graphite
Well, I learned more in 20 minutes with this video than in four years at my overpriced af art college. Thank you Alphonso for making such amazing FREE content, and as others have said, not trying to nickel and dime us like other youtube artists do, with far less in depth knowledge btw.
Can you move your pens out of the way please? I know it sounds really weird but it stresses me out and I wanna move me for you lol. It's ok If u can't but thanks! Love the vids btw
***** it reminded me of jaob sartorius lol great info though. I learned a lot of the overall concept of the flow of the human body. That bending line is really interesting since its basically everywhere
As someone looking to begin art from the imagination, I am very grateful for the thoroughness and clarity in the video to help me start understanding how to create a person through drawing
I am finally learning, I feel like I can do anything now. I know you guys might think I am crazy eh, but I had a hard time learning in the past and now I feel like I have found a breakthrough.
