Hi everyone! Here's a drawing tutorial video showing how I draw skin texture. I've been using this method for a few of my recent drawings and I really wanted to share it with you. It's a fun and relaxing way to approach this type of drawing and it's helped me a lot. I really hope this video helps out in some way. Be sure to let me know what you think - and feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos. Thank you so much for the amazing support! Hope you're having an awesome day. :) -Chris

What I like about you is that you say that we could use whatever, and you don't say, "You need Faber Castell pencils, blending sticks ONLY, and very heavy paper." I respect that. Keep doing what you do.
@LethalChris1
@LethalChris1 6 лет назад
Thanks so much. :) I think it's really important not to worry about specific art supplies. Drawing is so fun and it's easily accessible with any paper and pencils/pens. Thanks again!
@carriecake_
@carriecake_ 6 лет назад
LethalChris Drawing Yes, I've noticed that some people think that it's all about the art supplies, (I used to think that myself), but it's really all about how you make do with the supplies given.
@LindaGailLamb.0808
@LindaGailLamb.0808 6 лет назад
LethalChris Drawing & Carrie Bowes I think it depends partly on who or what the art is for. If you're doing a professional piece for sale or commission, naturally you use the best supplies you can manage, and price according to that and the buyer. If your art is more for fun and hobby, for yourself and friends, then premium (and premium-priced!) supplies are less important. And I've seen some videos where artists do a "cheap art supplies challenge", and do amazing things with whatever they use. It's not always what you use, but how and what you do with it.
@Seamo57
@Seamo57 5 лет назад
Carrie Bowes Exactly, being a professional artist for several years, I happened upon this video and I strongly agree. There are definitely some things that will help you out, but it’s different for everyone… You can get the exact same techniques with cheap &/or homemade tools, nothing expensive, especially when you’re talking about Graphite drawings! However it does take practice…

This isn't exclusive to drawing but any creative subject......talent will ALWAYS trump materials or equipment....drawing, sculpture, music, sport etc by all means use the same stuff as your 'role models'' but if you have talent it will show regardless.....

Normally, I am very against blending with anything other than organic graphite, but you’ve shown a wonderful display of shading with the blend tool. Very well done. I’d still highly recommend not using your fingers, they tend to leave unintentionally smudges that can be hard to remove if it’s in an unwanted spot.

At the end of your video you said, 'if you have any suggestions of what you'd like me to draw, any questions you need answering or any help at all, get in touch in the comments below'. This is exactly what people have done but you haven't got back to them. Your artwork is phenomenal and you have raw, natural talent. Please try and answer some of the questions. I'm sure it would help so many of us, I know for sure that it would help me so much. This is easily the best eye tutorial I've ever seen but it would be so much better if it had been played in real time. Take care.

thanks for the video! I find that my line work is adequate in that from a few feet away I can create realism with just pencil, however when i try to refine it, and smooth the pencil, it gets weird and cloudy. This method is really quite interesting and tackles that problem well

Awesome work! Your videos make me wish I had stuck with my art talents in school. 2002 or 2003 I had taken a commercial illustration class and based on that experience I decided that a career in art wasn’t for me. Not because I didn’t have talent. But because I didn’t see enough “career opportunities”. Maybe I will dust off my art supplies and give it another try. Thanks for your inspiring videos. I especially like to see your progression from 5 years ago to now!
