I'm excited. That was a great idea. I love black and rainbow because black makes the color pop like you mentioned.🌈🖤 The colored pencils could also be used to build up the shading like you did on your "white paper" skull. Is it more difficult to take things away like the black charcoal drawing. Is more precision required? You just answered as I was typing but would still love to hear your feedback if you're interested. Is patreon an app or a website? I'm glad you found a way to do what you love and make a profit! Your more wild paintings remind me of Heavy Metal the movie. The reason I'm excited though... I have a gray paper!!! Maybe you can try that and use white charcoal to highlight where it's needed next. Just throwing it out there. I may even have black paper too. You helped me get inspired! Are you an Aries by chance or a Leo? I also love skulls and have several shirts with lace skulls on them. I've got a pastel rainbow colored shirt and a black tank top (or 2) and a black and rainbow completely lace tank/dress or bathing suit cover.💀❤🧡💛💚💙💜
everytime i have to work on my art stuff for uni i watch a slew video for inspiration and to end my frustration from dumb assignments and it works like a charm
Hey Slew...no need to switch your sponge for individual colours on the pans. Just grab a paper towel and swipe off then dip into the next colour. You can mix the pan colours - use a piece of paper just like a pallet plate. Try the hand held sponges too .. I use Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper and love it. Great videos love your work 👩🏻🎨
I'm a Harley rider and a bass player, but suddenly find myself subscribed to you and ten hundred. Gotta say, I'm loving this creative stuff. My wife's an artist and I guess she's starting to rub off on me hahah. Keep up the good work brother!
fr you're one of my favourite youtubers and artists. fricken love the atmosphere you create in your videos/ studio. also youre an amazing artist but you already knew that.
Incredible video Slew! Your channel has quickly become one of my favourites on youtube! The video production is top-notch and obviously, the art as well! Cheers!
Brandon Sanderson is one of my hero's. He finished the Wheel of Time series, the original author Robert Jordan completed 12 books of the story, then passed away before he could finish it. His widow gave his final notes on the story to Brandon so he could finish it. It's the most epic fantasy series i've ever read, like LOTR but on acid, dipped in gasoline! I know this is a random comment, but in another video you said you like Brandon as an author. That series is worth reading highly recommend it!
You can mix tints with white and your regular colors with pan-pastels. When you want to tone down a color or brighten one up you can mix on your palette or on the paper surface as well. So you CAN blend them it just takes practice I am still quite new to pastels and am still learning but you can mix pastels! you can use layers or even mix the powder on a palette with your sponge applicators. I have been having better luck mixing my colors on sanded papers, you can try them as well as workable fixative sprays to give your paper more tooth for the pastel to stick! I hope you try this more as I am learning from every source I can as well! I have recently found "WatercolorGypsy Art and Wellness" She has started a HUGE project cataloging pastels and is worth a watch if you want to know more! Keep working SLEW! Keep those videos comin'!
Also, what is that creamy Sax in the back ground? I love that jam and have heard it in a lot of your videos. My son tried to steal my phone once after he was dancing to it lol
Slew, try out Sennelier soft pastels. I think you will find that using those is a bit more easier and fun. You can also buy colors that are portrait inclined or soft earth tones for landscapes. Enjoy
Love watching your vids man. I struggle with skulls. So you breaking it down helps so much. BTW. How is your fantasy team doing? I seen your phone at the start. 😆
Loved how this came out. As an artist, I know how easy it is to be super self critical, especially working on a different aesthetic/material, but this really looks great! Do you sell these small pieces? Love the channel. Xx
I bought a human sized reference skull that medical students use to help me draw skulls better. Teeth always get me. That and coloring the shadows and highlights
