what would rather draw with for the rest of your life, colored pencils or charcoal?
@finnk8530
@finnk8530 3 года назад
charcoal I think. Coloured pencils are great, but charcoal is much more closely linked to painting and I think is more diverse. You could water it down to give it an inky like effect, you can get really deep tones using charcoal powder, you could even get some muted browns depending on the type of charcoal you used. I think it's much more sculptural too, which is fun : ) loved the video too!

I actually never saw the shitty looking phase of an art piece as a barrier. I somehow started these big drawings/paintings without a lot of experience. And the first few hours in it always looked terrible, but in the end it turned out great, so i just trusted my guts and assumed that the shitty looking phase was part of the process.

Wise words here! Remember when you were a kid and someone was always telling you "practice makes perfect?" Awful words to hear because in childhood one minute is eternity, so practicing anything for thirty minutes was grueling. I think deep down we knew that practice was the answer and getting to "perfect" would take time. Hearing those words again stings just as bad now as it did back then! Love the green and blue self portraits, you've captured your essence quite well! Awesome content as always!

For me it was like I had more time to do it and since it was slowly over time it didnt feel like practice. I will say this its disheartening to loose what you got when you stop doing it for a year.

I prefer the phrase as "practice makes progress". Less pressure, more visible results in shorter time. The 10th circle is visible rounder than the 1st, even if not perfect yet.

I love how you said that it's essential to finish a piece, even if you go through 10 000 emotions while doing it. Reminds me of that saying from Jake Parker (creator of Inktober) : "Finish, not perfect". I try to follow that rule as much as I can too. :-)

I am far from beeing good...but I like the outcam more and more.

My path to being able to draw anything. >comics: the realization that what you know can’t possibly be done in your lifetime. > animation: the realization that all that you’ve learned isn’t enough. Nor do you have the time left to make it all, especially on your own. > no time for regret. You’ve gone too far to turn back 😊

I say start with copying things that you are interested in and really like. It was comic books for me and marvel characters starting in the 90’s. Use tracing paper if you want/need to, there’s no shame in that. I would also say don’t stress on getting the most expensive tools quite yet and that there’s lots of really good brands that are affordable and not too far honestly from the high end brands. Start with minimal mediums as you can, so you’re not over whelming yourself. I would suggest staying with pencil, liners and markers or color pencil maybe. But the real key and only way it really works if you draw as much as you can because you genuinely like it, and have that need to get out the creativity that’s overflowing within and dying to get out. Having videos like Slew and the other great artists on RU-vid is a truly huge asset that will put you ahead of schedule by years with the tools you can learn from their content.

as a disciplined intermediate artist whos been practicing for a while, I have to disagree with the notion that there are "no secrets" to drawing, I've been doing art since I was 17 and I'm 22 now, but it's only been in the the last two years that my art has blossomed, because that's the time it took me understand the fundamentals. The only advice I have for beginner artists is to learn the fundamentals and never stop learning them, and do lots of studies like you did in this video. I don't think trial and error is the most efficient way to learn. Loved the video otherwise though! You seem very chill so I subbed :3

you learn more from mistakes and how to fix it, then to be perfect. All my greatest paintings are planned out and committed personal challenges, pushing me out of my comfort zone. that is where u progress the fastest. im really bad at going back years later and critic my paintings, and noticing my flaws :( but you are your own worst critic hahaha

There is such a thing as perfect practice Also I heard Leonardo da Vinci didn't just paint and draw he got bored and he tried different creative endeavors that focused on the arts. It can be playing an instrumen, acting, Dancing, Martial arts, poetry, sculpting, poetry song writing overall participating in a in any arts can stretcher imagination.
