I think this was the best "Draw" video I've ever seen online. It covers all the bases. It took me like a year to learn to hit a nice draw and sometimes i will loose it on the course(too fast body rotation losing my I-O path). Im gonna store this video to send to anyone i know struggling with their swing. Its so much more than those stupid quick fix videos

that cupping/bowing of the left wrist was mind blowing for me when i first heard about it. i was cupping the hell out of it and i didn't know i was doing it. started bowing it and my whole swing just came together instantly. not enough ppl talk about that

Very true John, I used to cup way too much as well but definitely improved once I learnt more about the benefits of bowing. Golfers like DJ and Rahm have really put it out there in the spotlight. Cheers

Natural draw with every club. Can hit little fades with irons but struggle hitting a “proper” fade with the woods. I’d like to see a video on why you can’t fade the ball but I know it’s really all about controlling path and face to path. 👍

One other thing, wrist extension sneaks in and the ball slices. Keeping the wrist straight and relaxed keeps the ball in line. You provided a great lesson with that explanation.

Fantastic video. I used to shank then after a lot of lessons and perseverance I started to draw. Now I’ve gone the other way and can’t freaking stop hitting it left. Can’t wait to get down the range and try out some of these things almost in reverse.

Loft and Speed is the exact reason I moved late this year from an 18 degree hybrid to an 18 degree 5 wood. Off a tee I loved that hybrid, but I was reduced to only fading it into a green. The added 1 1/2" shaft length of the 5 wood has given me just enough speed increase to be able to not have to fade it.

I've been working on my driver and trying to minimise or eliminate my fade/slice. I'm now hitting far more straight (rarely draws) balls by strengthening the grip and extending my back-swing which seems to give the club more time to drop inside. I'm playing a Callaway Rogue 1.5 degree Driver which has been set to standard loft and draw and I've noticed I hit it a bit too low straight and a lovely height with the fade. Tomorrow I'm going to try +1 draw. Watch this space.

May need to wait until it warms up slightly but would love to see a video on how you can work on the swing with alignment sticks. I think a lot of people miss the fact that you can do more than point them down range and most have a point hidden under the pretty rubber end caps for jamming in the turf.

you guy's are primarily standard length in your irons or woods...the issue I see is when irons are too long or too short. In instruction I see students with different body types that have been fitted for the wrong length irons which leads to face to path all over the place. Wrist to floor measurement just doesn't work with everyone. You guy's have a great setup for capturing numbers...Thanks for what you do.

It depends, used to be straight with irons and straight or slice with woods. I have watched your v blogs from when you were at the driving range in Devon. Now my irons can have a draw and sometime a hook. My drives are mostly straight to a draw, if I become complacent and not focus I can get a slice. This is quickly corrected to go straight or draw. It's hard to get a fade. The latest thing is my range, what was once a 7 iron is now a 6 iron. Need to tone up, build muscle, yada, yada...

Dont know your swing and you didn't ask me but had this problem until recently. Hit my irons well in either direction but slice driver. Actually weakened my grip to fix. Sounds counter intuitive but the club didnt actually release all the way with that grip and my hands would be forward at impact (like an iron) which opens the face of woods since you dont deloft them. Also, started releasing earlier. Deliberately throw the weight of the club out earlier before impact. How much earlier depends on your rotation speed so try a few at the range since too early will likely cause it to hook. I hit it further and straightened flight with those changes. Food for thought.

Interesting, entertaining, and challenging. I do not hook. I am a right handed player, standard grip to slighly strong but naturally left handed (started when there were no left handed clubs), a straight ball hitter in the main. Swing with a slightly cupped left wrist at the top for a full swing, and flattening through the first part of the downswing. A fade is my more natural action and I can fade at will and draw say 2 metres/yards for a full hybrid by consciosly and aggressively rotating the left forearm to square the clubface (slightly closed to the path really). If I don"t do this, it is a block push slice, or a "healy" result, which I hate most of all. My left arm/side is so much stronger/dominant than my right side. My point of interest is the need to consciously rotate the left forearm for the desired outcome.

I rarely slice unless I hit it in the heel. My normal hit is a draw with the driver but the last few months I have struggled to consistently hit one. More often my drives are straight and slightly right because I aim there. Reviewing videos of my drives show that my clubhead is a bit flat at impact (toe down). I am not sure why unless my hands are getting too high but it is hard for me to draw the ball with the toe down.

I slice or fade never draw (hook sometimes) despite trying to change grip and follow these tips I still break down on the back swing and then hit a fade. the only way I hit straight is if I bend lower as my swing path changes slightly and then it goes straight, i need lessons on the spring to get my handicap down (also despite having a 65 degree wedge i still thin it out ot the bunkers and costs me a least 4 shots a round) 👌👍

I would like to see the top 5 reasons I cant get up and down around the green. My reasons would be 1, thinning my wedges. 2, Hitting short on my wedges. 3. Although I hit a decent power fade with the driver, I think I'm guilty of 'chasing' the ball in my set up rather than tilting more. My strike pattern is low centre. I'm going to try more tilt, a higher tee and look to hit the ball out the toe today.

Question for ya. How much if any does the ball you play factor in to shot shaping? You've shown us how you can still work the ball with forgiving clubs. Or better yet how about forgiving clubs with say Bridgestone e12 soft or Srixon Q star tour. I guess I should also clarify controlled shot shaping. I played with a draw (I say draw, more like a massive hook) from handicap 20-10 then earlier this year decided I wanted to play with a fade, so went to the range and hammered it out. Now I’ve come down to 5 and no longer loose balls, I’ve lost a bit of distance but that was never an issue for me. But now no matter how hard I try I simply can’t hit a draw any more, it’s the weirdest thing, like my old shape was a proper bubba boomerang draw and now I can’t even hit a tiny one. My draw swing now goes straight, which I consider a win as it didn’t fade 😂

I can shape most of my irons fairly consistently however I've always struggled with my driver with slicing it. Changed my grip to a stronger (really just slightly more than neutral; it was quite weak before) and now I mostly block my drivers. I was just thinking yesterday that I was probably cupping my wrist too much. I manage it with my irons pretty well but my driver seems to suffer still (I'm assuming that's because the irons have a negative attack angle and I'm trapping the ball which closes the face; just a guess). I'm going to hit the range tomorrow and try that drill where you DJ the wrist and then super cup it and hopefully I can hit my driver on target without hitting a draw that starts 5 miles right first. Cupping the wrist feels so natural and comfortable but I changed my grip to be stronger and overlap instead of 10 finger so I figure I can get use to not cupping with enough practice. Preciate y'all

This takes care of everything, I guess. Clubs now on EBAY as I head down to the shop to browse tennis rackets. I struggle with draws as I tend to strike it more on the heel/center. Deliberately trying to strike between the center and toe, rather than just trying to strike the center (and dealing with whatever side you hit), shrinks the clubface in half, and if you (translation: *I* ) have inconsistencies in your swing (coming out of posture, etc.), the gripping fear of what can go wrong (toe shanks) starts to take over. At least now I belong to a club which includes unlimited range balls. 😂

I have a two-way miss. I'll put four drives down the center. Overdraw two. Then push fade two. In no particular order. As you can guess this makes figuring out where to aim very difficult, so I aim dead center and roll the dice. I would just like to have a consistent shape. I don't care if it's left or right. You know that no pro has ever honored my request to teach me how to intentionally hit a slice, right? My logic is that if I was trained how to do it that I'd know exactly what to avoid. It's counterintuitive.
