Hi everyone! Here's my drawing of the Moon! I really hope this video is helpful. It's a fun drawing to work on and I highly recommend giving it a try! I'd been thinking about trying a drawing of the moon for a while - and I felt like soft pastels would be great for this after recently trying them out for the first time. Two questions really: 1) Did you you put any sealant of any sort after you finished this moon drawing considering it has so much pastel medium? You don't want to store this and later find a round celestial fuzzball of various values of greys where once there was a gorgeous moon. 2) Do you film yourself creating your pieces for the first time or do you try out different ways to flush out any mishaps that may present themselves before you work on the piece you will be filming? Especially on these How-to videos, I can't speak for everyone else, but I get a sense at times that you learned something unexpected while filming the current project. With your Dragons or Fan Art drawings, I get the sense that you've done a few practice runs before filming the final drawing. I'm curious. Any response is greatly appreciated. Thank you. 😼

I live in Prague right next to the Koh-i-Noor. And each time you say you used Koh-i-Noor pastels, it makes me happy for no reason. :D

I found it so hard to not skip to the end to see what the finished drawing looks like....but I stuck with it and was blown away with the process and was amazed with the finished drawing!! Keep it up Chris!!

It's always so weird seeing a moon the way it looks from another part of the world. I'm used to the craters looking different hehe. I always loved pastel on black paper, great job. (PS: blending stumps are your friend for sharp blended edges with soft pastel)

Absolutely beautiful drawing, black paper is so much better when using white pen or pencil so I think you've chosen the right paper. Please keep up the good work xxx💜💜💜

Black paper is a wise choice. I'd also choose black for digital drawing. Very good detailed verbalization of artistic process :) I think I need to subscribe

Wow! The moon painting is so detailed that it looks like the moon! I always draw here in time but when I draw the moon, I always get a weird shape and this is a really nice moon painting!! My god, I swear every time I watch your videos you get 10x better, it’s been such an amazing experience to see your videos and I absolutely loved this. I think that warm blue around the moon really helped it pop and so did the grey pastel. You’ve done such an amazing job on all of your artworks and your videos are absolutely terrific. I typically do my sketches of the night sky at the eyepiece and have been interested in sketching the moon so I was looking for some tips and came across this video. Very well done and I appreciate the tutorial on drawing the moon. Big difference between drawing a nebula you see in the eyepiece and drawing the moon as far as how much detail is involved. Can't wait to try out the moon!

i’m a big space nerd so i loved seeing you get all the details perfect! i think it would be very cool if you tried drawing some planets, like jupiter or saturn with its rings half lit. i have no doubt you’d do great and i would love to follow along to those as well.

I saw a speeddrawing of the moon a few months back. Tried recreating on digital. It wasn't bad. But, I could've definitely used this tutorial, back then haha

Working off of the pastel idea, why not all of the planets? Earth would be awesome with a blue halo to show atmosphere. Jupiter with its moons, saturns rings! Great work!

Hey Chris. You might remember me from last video (I asked about the linework and pencils) And I just wanted to say that yet again, You have out done yourself with your art! Thank you for doing the things you do. Also, Would you recommend for me to buy the 72 set of copic ciao set A or B? Love your videos and your art style. Also how about another ghost drawing? Maybe done with pencil and markers? Or maybe another dragon? Thanks for inspiring me Chris! - Keegan

Hi Keegan! Thank you so much for the kind words. :) Have you tried the markers before? The first markers I picked up 5 years ago was the Copic Ciao Set B with 36 markers. They can be quite expensive, so I recommend trying out one of the small sets with a few markers to see how you find them before picking up a larger set. Copics are awesome though. And there are other cheaper alternatives which I've found to be pretty great too, like Art-n-Fly. It took me a while to get used to working with markers, but once you feel more comfortable with them there are so many fun artwork possibilities. Thanks for the great drawing suggestion too! you should draw god of war characters it would be cool to draw others instead of kratos. Also you should draw naruto characters, I did and it was fun but challenging.
