How to draw an Rhododendron flower in an inked hatching style, with black ink and a brush pen for Inktober. In this inking tutorial, I demonstrate some simple inking techniques you can try with your brush pen drawing. I show you how to use hatched brushstrokes to achieve a stylized image, in black & white. Once you understand the basic approach of using lines close together to represent grey tone, you can apply this style to just about any of your ink drawing! This Pentel Brush pen tutorial is drawn on 165gsm textured paper.

Honestly, as much as I like your colour work, there's something about your ink drawings that I like even more! I love the simplicity & starkness of black ink drawing, and I admire the line confidence!

Thank you 😄 I really enjoy drawing them, even though it's stressful trying to get the hatching lines done so carefully! The starkness of the image is something that really appeals! I think I might something non-botanical next time, you know, to up the challenge?! 😳😄

This is fantastic Gee! I love using the Pentel brush pen so this in inspiring. Its a challenge to control so I tend to come in with it after using liners, so using it for the whole piece is braver than i've been willing to be, LOL! But I love the almost wood cut look of it! Awesome job!

That is lovely. I try to remember I should have my lines go with the shape but then all of a sudden it looks like I had a fit and they are going this way and that.
