Like many hourglass figures, I have full thighs and upper arms, so pencil skirts and fitted sleeves aren't always good for me. I find loose sleeves and knee-length circle skirts or a-line skirts to be super flattering on me. My biggest tip to all hourglasses is to have a bunch of different belts so you can always cinch in the waist of any outfit.
@@cinemaatrium3863 Do you mean like it makes the skirts too short or smth like that? I'm 162 cm with kinda short legs so yeah, adding a belt doesn't make dresses and such too short on my body. I hadn't thought about tall hourglasses!
@@cinemaatrium3863 I think I understand! If I read your comment correctly, do you think you can cinch in your top with the belt instead of using it to alter how the skirt sits? I mostly use belts over dresses, coats, tops, etc. Using a belt to fix a pair of pants or a skirt doesn't always work for me, either. Here's an example of how I would use a belt with a midi skirt: I would let the skirt sit on my hips, where it wants to be, and get a fairly long top or perhaps a cardigan in the same colour, then I would add a belt in another colour around my waist to cinch in the top. I guess it's technically cheating because it makes the outfit look more like a dress and less like a skirt and a top.
That would be great! I also thought there is no way i would ever wear a slim fit dress. Or at least it feels impossible to not look like a sl** or a prostitute in it. The brand "superdy", based in uk, has a lot of clothing that fits more losely around the upper arms and chess area, and the styles are fine and even good and decent looking and they have good quality. I got two shirts wraked within one year the other last at least 4 years. Their pants are not so great. If that brand is not available in your region other uk based brands have a bit more space there too.
This 💜 I cover my arms, legs, and hair for my religion and I’m trying to figure out how to look modest, not sexy or showy, but still cute and feminine at the same time. This vid definitely had some helpful tips though but I want to know how to look pretty or cutesy without looking sexy. I feel like anything non-sexy I put on leaves me looking like I’m wearing a potato sack 😂
One thing that i can really not sign off is the dress thing. Literally anything in a a-shape is good for us. Highwaisted of course and nice tight in the top. So yes you can definitely go for full skirts, just try avoiding pleates (they can be bloody hard). But literally 40s and 50s dresses are made for the hourglass figure. And you can also wear oversized items, but rather do it with something tight under it and try showing your waist.
I disagree with the idea that we cannot wear "bottom-heavy" dresses... I am 5'4" tall, my shoulders are 40, my waist is 26, and my hips are 40; a pinup dress with a sweetheart/halter top half and swing bottom half coupled with a belt to accent my waist looks great! The swing bottom slenderizes my legs.
the only problem with mid/high rise pants is that they don’t fit well at our waist and there’s a lot of extra fabric that even with a belt still looks weird
If you get a material that is stretchy enough you won’t have that issue. The gaps and extra material only start when you have a very stiff fabric that doesn’t bend to your body and your curves ☺️
Loved this! So many times we curvy women are told we can’t wear high necklines but you showed gorgeous options - perfect for work, church or ladies who choose to dress modestly.
Great tips, thank you! Could you include some tips on jumpers, sweaters, cardigans, knitwear for the hourglass, please? I live in a cold climate, and often need a third layer.
Try fitted sweaters fine wool/cashmere, slightly lower or on the waist, if not warm enough add a bottom length cardigan than is either belted or left open. V or O necklines for the sweater and crew neckline for the cardigan. Waist length if warm enough. Yes the opposite to most people. Polos and highish crew neck sweater are out as they emphasize the bust area. I recommend fitted top with, in fashion high waist wider pants/trousers, skinny pants are generally not good and they emphasize the hips and thigh too much, okay for a night out but maybe too much for ever day.
Thank you for this info ! The other problem I have is not being able to find stores that have clothes that cater to an hourglass . I find so many box cut tops it’s like that’s what’s popular now , and looking online it’s difficult to gauge the shape of the item because the models are usually pretty thin and uncurvy. Do you have any suggestions on stores that have these types of items you suggested ?
Find a designer you like, Calvin Klein has tops, skirts and dresses that work for me - still needs tailoring but they nip in and don’t look like a box.
Andrea P_ Online usually in the description of the items you can check the cut if it's fitted, straight, boxy etc. For example Mango and H&M don't really work for me, but I've several things from Benetton and C&A and many thrifted items.
I am a Theoretical Romantic in the Kibbe system. So I feel that the hour glass is the closest to my shape. Not sure what my favourite was. I like all of them.
I definitely have to say the pencil shirt and the beautiful Wrap Dress you posted. So beautiful! I use to own one and OMG was it my favorite to wear whenever I had a girls night out or the first date during the summer months in college lol, THE BEST! When I put my pencil shirt on now! I mean straight business and know I’m the boss walking in the room. Thanks for sharing and love your positive content. I’m Mia btw
I think I have an hourglass figure (shoulders and hips approximately same with narrow waist). However I am not curvy at all! No booty whatsoever. I think I might also be a pear… but when I saw the clothing guide here it does seem like I’m fitting within this category (low rise bottoms don’t suit me at all and fitted arms always look best on me).
When I lived in cooler climates, I had no problem following these guidelines for an hourglass figure. Now, I have retired to a warm and humid climate and anything close to the skin makes me sweaty and overheated. It's quite unbearable. I have many lovely palazzo pant and full skirt options available to me here, so that was my favorite suggestion. I can also follow the tops' guidelines but will have to go with a little bit looser straight 3/4 sleeve. Thanks for your tips!
Wraps, pencil skirt like wtf hiw did I not know ABOUT this 🤦🏻♀️,slim cuts ,high rise jeans oh god thq u I just got all my wanted thgs love you leather jacket is my fav thq god it fits me
Could you make a video on how to dress for an hourglass figure with hip dips? I feel like fitted clothes (like the fitted dress) dont look good because they show off the hip dips too much..
I don't wear pencil skirts as they seem to inhibit my stride, even if they have an opening or a kick pleat in the back. I have one as a part of an interview outfit but that's it...I like bell type skirts and they seem to flatter me. I'm pretty short waisted so fitted tops that cling (but aren't tight) around the torso work well to keep my upper body from looking boxy. V neck is my favorite, as it draws the eye away from neck wrinkles. ;_D Sweetheart necklines in knitted tops are hard to find, but I like them. Keyhole too. It's nice to see that higher waisted jeans are becoming easier to find. I always wear a top over my jeans and no belt and that's the only style that doesn't slip down on the hips. Another thing I learned and this wouldn't apply to everyone, but I am just a shade under 5'2" and I finally learned to wear shorter jackets that stop at the top of the hipbone. In the past I always thought I had to cover up my hips (why?) and didn't realize how disproportionate that made me look.
sorry but hourglass figures tend to have bigger thighs so the palazzo pants and wide leg pants will be super unflattering bc they'll make us look bigger and shorter:/
I think not! I just look square, at least the thigh need to be really tight and flare out. Anything straight makes the body look like your biggest point.
Have a hard time with pencil skirts because waist is usually fit but hips too tight or the opposite, hips fit and waist too big. Guess just need to tailor clothes.
Thanks but another hard part is finding any bottoms that actually fit cause either the waist of the pant too hella big or the calf too big too where do y'all shop like a Brazilian pant store or what
Does this mean that oversized jackets are not an option? Like oversized blazers and oversized shirts (which act as a “jacket”)(I’m not sure how to describe styling the shirts)🙈
I think oversized jackets and blazers work as long as they don’t have huge shoulder pads. The oversized look is definitely a great trend. I love wearing my white button-down oversized shirt and I am an hourglass too!⌛️
I have an hourglass body and I can tell you that anything oversized make me look 20kg fatter. If you want to wear oversized tops, invest in belts, belts and more belts!
Yeah and low rise jeans it looks like I don't have hips. But when I wear a high rise jeans you can see my hips more. My hips are subtle though. Because I think they're settled because the top part of me is bigger
I'm considered a "top hourglass" and it is so hard to style. Many things that compliment a regular hourglass tend to look off with me or they emphasize my chest. I feel like I can't win. Lol Edit: Plus I'm tall so I need to take that into consideration as well. Lol
I have an hourglass body type, and I'm zero size. I didn't actually know I was hourglass until I measured my body, so now I'm looking for clothes that would compliment hourglass shapes. Usually I would look for clothes that compliment inverted triangle body shapes, or rectangular body shapes, cause I thought I was either one of them. This video really helped me change my style, and how to enhance my features. ❤️💜
I don't know too much I know that I seen how high-rise is better for me. And that's more relatable also the stuff you're talking about with boxy like types of cuts of clothing. That is definitely an issue for me. So I do like some of the different did it types of clothing that you say that that type of body shape should wear.
I find an Aline skirt or dress looks really good on hourglass. As we age, we cant keep wearing fitted items. It is also boring and restrictive. Satin midi skirts are great too.
Yes agreed!! I love my A-line dresses and pencil skirts. I only don’t like it that because of my big hips I always have to buy pencils a size bigger then my normal clothes, otherwise it just won’t fit at my belly. Tight blazers is what looks the best on me but because I have that much breast (not always had) I find it hard to find a size that fits my figure. Size EU 40 is a little to small but with size EU 42 it’s way to big and it doesn’t compliment my figure. At the moment I have UK size 34DD/34E. Anyone that has tips? Some of my friends told me that wearing a sports bra might work. I am not really sure if it will… Some UK brands that I love so much are House of CB and Jane Norman. Those brands really complement an hourglass figure 😍On the other hand ASOS is not such a good idea for me. The celeb where I get my inspiration from is Adele ☺️
I have exactly the same silhouette as you, and I thought for too long that I was a A silhouette (small bust, wide hips), but it turns out I’m actually an hourglass, so I guess you’re so (As long as your shoulders are wider than your waist, I do think you’re an hourglass)
I’m like you and was wondering about it! I do not have curves apart from my narrow waist, I think on top of these advices we need to think about clothes that could compliment smaller bust or flat booty…
I don't look like that really imo. But my measurements on my shoulders are the same as the hips. My shoulders are 37" and my hips are 37" with 26" waistline. My bust is 39" though I have a large bust when I plug my measurements in it usually says top hourglass inverted triangle or hourglass. I have a defined waistline
I agree with most of this, but I think bottom heavy dresses look awesome, if they are not too stiff (like the dress in the photo), you'll look like a princess/queen, it's such a fairy-tale look (but then, I'm into costuming, cosplaying). Also, being an hourglass with a very short waist (it's small but it just goes in and out for about a few cm) and a short torso, high-waist jeans and pants hurt me and make me bulge, especially when sitting, even though there is really nothing there to bulge. So it's mid-rise (although that can be like high rise for me and then it hides the short waist and I look like a sausage) or better low-rise. Low-rise with the top OVER the jeans. Somehow people seem to forget that during the skinny jean heyday with the rises being mid or low, we did not tuck in, that was for grannies, we did not wear cropped tops (well, maybe teenagers and people in their 20s did at some point), it was all longer tops that went to your hips or lower. All the current reels and stuff show millenial style in skinnies with cropped tops, that was not a thing! We had our bellies out in the 90s/early2000s with those wide-legged pants that are in again, but not skinnies. So, in my short waist case, a closer fitting top shows off the small waist and then flares out again to the hips and then a some point the jeans start there. Well, since I'm short but with long legs, I never worry about making my legs look longer. But it's taken me 40 years to figure out, so it is a tricky thing to do.
Ok so mainly I got to know that I have a curvy body shape but the problem is that the curve this body have in the picture is not similar to mine I have a less curvy body shape its not rectangle also its hourglass but it's less curvy
sorry I think you are a ruler, hourglass should be like the waist being at least 25% smaller than bust or hips. at your size the expected waist should be like 27.5-28.5 inches in waist for hourglass shape, if waist is bigger but other measurement are roughly the same then it's a ruler. but yeah on the other hand you have a shape that fits any international UK/ US/ AU M size top best no alterations needed
What if a person is between a pear (small waist) and a hourglass (34D) but hips are (38in) and a shapely body. Arms are naturally thick/muscled. Things are thick. Or maybe can you do a video on how to accessorize with a belt or making a little changes to the outfit so one doesn’t have to feel like they need to get a completely new wardrobe. I use a lot of clear belts if I need to cinch my waist. And, I normally only wear dresses or skirts. Thanks
Im a bottom heavy hourglass too! basically wear things that dont emphasize the hips further. i like relaxed fit jeans (straight, boot cut, wide), A line skirts straight skirts, and pleated skirts that cut off mid thigh or long. I stay away from pencil skirts, light colored, and tight fitted bottoms like skinny jeans. dear peachie has a great video on this !
Hi thank you very much for this informative video! I would appreciate it if you could include the bodytypes in the video aswell if that is possible 🙈 I often find it hard to imagine how it would look on another bodytype, so that would help a lot :)
Noted! It's just hard to find people because i would have to hire someone since most of the models online are rectangles or super skinny hourglasses ;(
@@concepthree I understand. Maybe ask someone of your friends or family? :) Or ask on facebook (maybe in groups) or insta if there is someone with that figure? Or you could use fotos from the internet to show it. I hope this helps and we soon can get some tips on our shape but of course it has to be doable for you! :) o
Hi beautiful I love you Chanel I just subscribe it. I’m 61 year old 5:3 tall our glass sise L all you suggest are nice however when we are over weight some times make difficult for matures ladies like me. My mesures are 43-35-43 round breast an bottom. Thanks for you information, I’m Latina lived in Australia
Hi Mayra I’m glad you like it 😊 I will definitely make some future videos on dressing to camouflage areas we don’t want to emphasize and also on body proportions!
hourglass! shoulders and hips are within 5percent of each other and the waist is small and defined. smaller bust just means youre a bottom heavy hourglass.
My measurements say I have an hourglass figure but, I have no shape to my hips and I feel like my waist and shoulders are wider than my hips. My measurements are bust 34 1/2, waist 26, and hips 37, but I have no shape to my bottom at all. Does anyone have any tips?
Tips for hour glass shapes with small breasts? Im not quite a pear because I have wide shoulders, bottom is curvy but I just don’t have those big bodacious breasts like other women ! Lol! What would you suggest?
this is called bottom heavy hourglass! to look more balanced i wear relaxed fit pants and stay away from light colored and tight-fitting clothes. and wear things that emphasize bust/shoulders
Actually I don't know like my shoulder and hips are not wide I mean I am way too skinny but my shoulder and hips measure the same which is 32 and my waist is 23
hourglass figure does NOT have wide shoulders! it`s "inverted triangle" who has wide shoulders. the upper line of that "hourglass" is an image for BREASTS, not shoulders. and it does NOT literally mean that their breasts should be about the SAME circunference, - those schematic pictures are just approximate images, they give an IDEA of overall silhouette of certain types of figures.
No. Hourglass is shoulders and bust equal to hips with a defined waist Line. So shoulders counts. For ex. Pear shape have narrow shoulders and inverted triangle have broader shoulders than hips. While hourglass matches shoulders with hips
