I would like to know your more indepth take on shorts (shirts and pants) that looks kinda like suits. Business casual style. It is just not possible to wear a jacket like that without getting drenched in sweat in a tropical country. Some Japanese companies are pushing for shorts to work and Japan is not nearly as hot as Taiwan.
@@linsylar7649 i agree when it's 89 90 degrees i will never wear a suit out side light colored shorts a light colored dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows and the front open down to your belly button so heat can escape ad air ca get in
A beautiful “friend” in college studies abroad and comes back raving about well-dressed men? Sounds like we may have gained an insight into Antonio’s origin story in fashion.
“Practice wearing” something. This is good advice. Our son’s black tie wedding is coming up soon. I had a traditional tuxedo made. When I first put it on, it felt strange. So I’ve worn it at home a few times to get used to it and now I’m no longer self conscious wearing it.
This tip was such great advice, not only does it help to feel more comfortable in the outfit but I bet, in your experience, you also felt sexy as hell walking around the house in a tuxedo.
As an italian, I'm sorry to say this is a fantasy. There may be a little more attention to style (usually through imitation) but the average guy would never dress sharp unless he's forced to. Especially in summer.
@@KayPhantomville As a German, who only recently returned from a three-week trip in Rome and the Salento, I have to say you undersell your countrymen :D Seriously, average aesthetic quality of outfits (especially men's) is far superior to those in Germany.
There are well dressed and poorly dressed men in Italy as in any other country. It depends on each man, the factors of origin, education, mentality, lifestyle, income, generation, environment in which he lives, works and so on
Grow up and get on with it. Racial slur has no place in 2022. Just because you envy italians, there is no need to post stupid comments. Btw - if you had been there you know it isn't true either...
It's not what Italian's wear, it's how they wear it and how they inhabit the clothing they wear. There is a confidence instilled in them from a young age that enables them to wear the clothing well. Having spent a long time in Italy, and having lived with an Italian family is it fair to say that Italian style is not really about clothing but a way of life wherein everything is beautiful - your manners, your appearance, your food, your friendships, etc. Something us non-Italian's can appreciate and admire as a spectator.
I am Italian . This is exactly the point. Attention to detail and beauty in general. Not only about clothes, and formal ones at that. When you are born into it it becomes natural. ✨👌🏽
As someone who has lived in Italy for years I can say that it's just not nearly as hot or humid as most places in the states. You only see Italians dress like the images above in Milan (Milan Italians are vastly different from all the other Italians across italy). Italians are not different from anywhere in the sense that a college aged person is gonna look like every other college aged person across the globe, this works for every demographic. The biggest thing is that men's clothing is more affordable and accessible in Italy
Yes, Milan has a more high style fashion culture but there are also well dressed men in other cities. Even in central and southern regions, not that many but still they have a presence. The best dressed italian man in my opinion, Danilo Carnevale, is from Naples
I disagree, I recently lived in the Prati district of Rome from early March to the end of May and many of the men there (especially those older than 30) dressed similarly to those images. I got skeptical looks from the Romans for wearing anything less than a collared short sleeved shirt while walking around the city.
Okay, if you live in a cosmopolitan city, yes, you may want to dress up either in a suit or a sports jacket and pants? However, if you're living in America, in the suburbs, why would sport myself dressed in shoes, dressed or casual, with a dress suit or sport jacket if I'm just hanging out, enjoying the breeze, or going out to a diner or pizza shop to eat, shopping at the Supermarket, Pharmacy, a doctors appointment, or any place not relevant or related to dressing? Yes, I'll wear Moto Boots with a Leather Jacket, a solid casual shirt, polo, or a sweater with jeans, or even chinos just for everyday wear. Well, if you see me wearing sneakers, I'm either playing sports, working out, or going for a daily constitutional walk... Occasionally, if I go out to a bar, or a nicer restaurant, I'll wear the moto boots and leather Jacket with black jeans and a sportier dress shirt and tie? 👔
My mother was first generation from Italy to the US Florence ..My father first generation from Ireland. I went to Med School In Milan Italy...needless today as a man in his 50's I have a Italian wardrobe in the summer then my Irish tweed in the winter.
Great video! I totally agree! Went to Italy, and loved the way the men dressed. The middle-aged men in particular, seemed to have a great sense of style. They always seemed to nail the fit, too! I learned a lot just by talking to the tailors and artisans. Very inspirational! They inspired me to wear more blazers, and I have been wearing more of them ever since. I particularly love the way that their unstructured blazers fit. Giving a few to my nephew, who is going off to college in the fall.
Very good video. My partner is Italian so go to Italy very often to see her family and eat 😅 great food. I saw some comments that stated that this is mainly in Milan. This is not true. I often go to Puglia which is in the south (near the heel 😂). Most men, especially over 30 dress very nicely. I bought some nice clothes on my last trip. Including a wool sports jacket (with no liner) and some shirts. All made in Italy (near Bari). I do feel there is a lot of choice and those Italian brands are more accessible and better quality then some more well known expensive international brands. I look up to my father in law as he is all class😊.
For dress shoes, loafers, oxfords and shoes like that, i have a few pairs of Mephisto. they're great because they also have a cushioning system in the heel and air-soft technology which circulates air in the shoe. I can wear them all day without my feet getting tired.
I had an Italian boss and worked in the Milan area at times . I was amazed at how the Italian guys looked so sharp but also so laid back , completely the opposite to say à London business look but oh so sharp . I think their relaxed attitude plays a lot as does the general culture of clothes . Most Englishmen in suits look like they have come from court or an interview Most Frenchmen in suits look like they got lost going to their uncles wedding But nearly every Italian guy I saw looked like he just got up and still looked amazing
@@DaddySantaClaus in Italy they work smart, they enjoy life, they work to live, and not the other way around.they are not slaves, if italy has no industry or craft, why their styles are so prominent, beit mode in general, cars industry, heavy machinery agriculture, not to mention their ancient history, and the renaissance golden age.
10 things to quit for all Strong Men: 1. Caring about what others think 2. Not believing in yourself 3. Not experimenting different ideas / solutions for problems (life&business) 4. Not prioritizing your health 5. Wasting your precious time 6. Wanting something (instead write a plan and work towards it) 7. Chasing meaningless relationships 8. Wasting or draining your energy from beating your meat 🥩 9. Wasting time by scrolling social media 10. Nailbiting/nailpicking habit for good (if you do it - consider stopping it as it makes you mentally weak + affects your confidence and all other areas of your life!) Take it easy and I hope you found one thing helpful in this list...............
FINALLY!! Living in FL it's hot most of the time. I'm tired of other "style" content that only talks about coats and different layers of clothing. My RE team knows when I have an event coming up, because I dress well a few days before it and practice as you said, Antonio. Love your content, man!!
when it's 89 90 degrees i will never wear a suit out side too hot light colored shorts a light colored dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows and the front open down to your belly button so heat can escape ad air ca get in
Wow! Thanks, Antonio.. such a coincidence! I'll be attending my cousin's wedding in 2 weeks and I'm still struggling with how I'm gonna dress up. I hadn't thought about going for an Italian style ( we have family in Italy, after all). Thanks again, Sir.
Im in Italy for the first time right now - we researched how they dress and the big thing was “always fancy, never wear shorts.” We got to Rome and EVERYONE was wearing shorts and tshirts. There are definitely nicely dressed guys and women, better on average than sloppy Americans, but my very brief experience is that Italians are not wearing suits constantly, but look great in casual wear / dress nicer at night. Half what I packed for trip is untouched… nice linens tho :) Edit: in Venice now and the men are definitely dressed the best so far.
U.S. style has been influenced by urban culture and has been for a long time. Urban style has deteriorated over the past 2 decades and yes the remaining culture has followed suit.
Performance Wool trousers are another solid choice next to the lightweight pair. I also have a pair of plaid trousers but not sure if they were designed for hot weather. They are made with Viscose so I imagine that they could also be worn. My Chinos and Wool trousers can definitely be worn year round. Keep up the good work Antonio!
It is true that most might think that a jacket is just too hot in summer, but if you get the right kind of fabric and construction it can almost be just as comfortable as when not wearing it. I live in a tropical country and I’m fine wearing a sports coat most of the time. Maybe something that also makes Europeans look “stylish” to Americans (sorry for generalizing) is the sense of dressing for the occasion. I for example personally would never think of going out to the shop in my home/gym clothes and even worse for a coffee or lunch. I think that “stylish” people usually have the following traits: 1. Dressing for the occasion (clothes for different purpose). It should look intentional. 2. Feeling at easy in what you wear (no fussiness) 3. That the clothes looks “lived in”. Sounds strange but somehow it, in my opinion, it looks better when things aren’t too perfect (maybe relates to the fussiness). It should look like you are wearing your clothes not the other way around.
Well said. It sounds counter-intuitive but if you wear two layers in the heat, there's more fabric to absorb the moisture, so it can, like you said, be quite comfortable.
Here soon my only option for clothes really will be my Marine uniforms but my eye for fashion will finally have the funds behind it and will definitely have the body for it
Unsure how I had gone so long without seeing your channel (I didn't actually care about what I wore before that's why). I am absolutely loving the content. Thank you.
James Bond or Don Johnson in Miami Vice always looked sharp. Most men were oblivious to their attire but were drawn to watch. I'm not Italian but I grew up around them and always wanted that same look, still do today. The price of a cologne isn't the reason I make the purchase, it's the scents.
Hot weather in Europe and America is what we call cold weather here in Southeast Asia. I envy you guys for living in places where it is possible to wear jackets even during summer.
There are too many way to look stylish but the secret Italian have over any other population is their ability combine striking pant/ shoes combination. It’s the lower half of they body that get the most of their attention particularly shoes. Unique.
Italians tolerate the heat very well and when it gets a little chilly they put on a thick jacket. At least those from Rome. It's hard to imitate them in the same season, maybe a few months apart.
In the summer you’d want to wear trousers, patch pocket blazers, polo shirts, t shirts, or button up shirts made out of sea island cotton, linen, mulberry silk, lotus silk, bamboo fabric, lightweight wools, hemp, or blends of those materials in summer colors as well as standard colors that can be mixed together easily like blues, khakis, browns, whites, and grey. Open weave or lightly knitted sweaters can also be layered when it’s a little colder in the mornings or evenings. Woven leather shoes can also help keep your feet cool, along with fabric and leather shoes like derby’s or loafers, even boat shoes. Everything should be slim cut but with just enough let out in just the right areas to breathe and move properly.
Hey Antonio, I just finished watching your video, I'll have to disagree about wearing fragrance during hot weather. Because, I live in the 3rd Driest country on planet earth, Jordan. I promise you my friend, there's nothing worse than the smell of fragrance mixed with body sweat in the summer! & that is inevitable!! My best tip is to shower daily & use baby powder in the vital areas to soak up the sweat. Thanks for taking the to read my comment till the end, like I watch your videos till the very end 😉
In Rome, I felt very awkward if there were fewer tourists and more locals on the street. They were elegant and wore more neutral colors, plus navy blue.
Italians have a certain looks, that's for sure. I lived in Germany for a few years and they have a style all to their own as well. I'd like to see a video discussing German or British way of dress.
You have to do a study on the style of Ferrari’s Head Designer. Flavio Manzoni has impeccable style when he’s dressed. Stephen Winklemenn of Lamborghini dresses very sharply as well.
I tried Collars & Co., which are a 100% Polyester, which do not breath. A stylish gentleman should never wear polyester. He should only wear natural fabrics; cotton, linen, silk and wool. He should also never wear short sleeves shirts. If it’s hot you can roll up your sleeves. A stylish man should wear leather shoes. No sneakers. A great summer shoe is the Belgian Loafer, especially with the no sock look. I’m not a big fan of shorts, unless you are at a beach resort. They are never appraise in the city. No away from cargo shorts.
For me a northeast Floridian who has nonstop dallied tactical pants and a Polo for a decade and just added a Merino wool under T-shirt to my uniform... Breathable does not work as well as sweat wicking does so a light weight mernio wool or really any 100% wool should work vastly better then breathable light fabics that just trap sweat and rain making you even hotter... Which I learned this from special forces who fought un in the artic mountains in winter... Which the hardest part is not the cold it's the sweat which will kill you if you let it freeze... So, they have a system to wick the sweat from the skin to the outer layer wear it doesn't matter... The same thing in hot whether.
Hot weather is my curse biiiig time. As a big guy who grew up in an extremely cold weather and then moved to a much warmer place, heat is a devastating strike to my clothing choices
If you are very lean and your measure of hot weather is nothing above 29°C yes it makes sense. If you have the body of a Viking stereotype or faces weathers with temperatures above 29°C any discussion on style becomes irrelevant. There is no way a I can wear a jacket with thermometers surpassing 33°C.
What about Eastern European style? I can never find any style guides for this! From Czech to Russia down to Greece, all have some great styles to offer that never get much attention unfortunately
Sincerely, as an Italian, I see very few men dressing sharp on the streets. The casualization of menswear goes rampant also here, maybe not as rampant as in other countries but is still going on. For comparison, I saw way more people dressing up in Edinburgh rather than in Italy. Maybe we can go more "flamboyant" in general, compared to the Brits, but I think only 10-15% of men in Italy tend to dress elegantly and sharply. Moreover, this percentage drops even further down as time goes by, and new generations wearing streetwear replace the older, more stylish ones. Pitti Uomo is just an exception, it's very rare to see men dressing like that.
6:15 Sprezzatura should be younger than Machiavelli. For instance is used and explained by Baldassarre Castiglione in his essay "The Book of the Courtier", when talking about attitudes and behaviours
ANTONIO....LEATHER PERFORATED SHOES...IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IN THE USA!!! if you have any good providers or links I'd love to hear from you. I saw friends in Milan wear them, but I live in Miami and they are hard to find. Help!
