Please use safety glasses all the time when you are using power tools!!!!!!!!!!!!! You only have two eyes and good eyesight is a very precious gift. This will also teach diy people to be careful.

I just wondered why ANYONE wouldn't like this video! Thank you for sharing! We did have a thought, though... If you'd put a wooden block, or something, inside the cup up-side-down object, before you start, you'd prevent the drill from dropping all the way through by accident -- No?

here's a little hint... when you make it thru the ceramic, and like she said, the drill can come down fast and hard and damage the item... cut a cork in half, length wise and keep the cork flat side down on the side of where, if your drill came down it would hit.. the cork will act like a bumper. When I did this to large ceramic pots, I rolled up a hand towel and placed the towel just around the edge of where I was holding the drill juuuusstt in case... LOL

The water isn’t for lubrication it’s to keep the stone cool, you don’t want it slippery or it will slide everywhere, also you have to start your hole at 45 degrees with this bit.

Just small tips here :-) if you are afraid of using the drill, you can soak the flower pot in water one day ago, then draw a circle (to make a hole) and use a hammer with a nail after putting a wet towel in the pot! Oh, you need to tape on the shape of the circle. You need to hammer very carefully! Love your video from Korea 💖

Hi1 I am thinking of making a teacup garden and wondering if the same process of drilling would work? These teacup gardens will be a part of a Tea Party themed Bridal shower for my daughter. Cups will be more fragile than the sturdy mug you demonstrated drilling with on this video. any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.
@gardenanswer
@gardenanswer 8 лет назад
+peakfitlife You should be able to drill it, but I would go about it very slowly and carefully. There is always a risk that it will break! Make sure to keep lots of cold water on it so the cups don't heat up too much and crack. I think it's a brilliant idea and will look really cute! :) ~Laura

The tape thing helps. I drill glass for bongs, and just holding the thing with both hands at an angle helps! Drill at an angle to get a cut going, and then raise the bit to the 90 degree position.

***** Thanks Jules! :) It's a Donkey's Tail/Burrow's Tail Sedum. If you send me a picture of it at Garden Answer on FB - I can try to see what's going on with it! It's most likely a water or light problem. If it's too far gone, you could take cuttings and re-root it in fresh soil to save it! You just cut off the healthy portion, let the cutting dry out for a day or two, push it down into fresh cactus/succulent soil, water lightly and it will form new roots!

Will do, as soon as I get back. Out of town til Sunday but yes, I'll send a picture to ya! Thank you....and you know, I figure maybe i had over watered it and the soil was icky so i did re-pot it with fresh potting soil which is all I had and stuck some of the bead leaves in the soil...i do try to water infrequently but i fear its thirsty! Lol...anyhow, i'll send a pic when I get home....thanks again Laura😊

Some said use Masonry drill bits. I wanted to drill on several mugs and I have some terra cotta pots that I want to enlarge the holes. If I don't have daimond drill bits, would Masonry drill bits work ?
@gardenanswer
@gardenanswer 9 лет назад
phoneec I don't have any experience with Masonry drill bits, so I can't tell you for sure. If you do try, I would experiment on an older pot that you don't care about losing as much, just in case it doesn't work out. You can pick up a diamond tile drill bit for under $10 at a hardware store if you decide to go that route. Good luck! ~Laura

Hi Laura need your help and tip, I already planted my cactus and succulents in a ceramic vase has those pockets around the vase. should I try to drill holes on the bottom of those cups that protrude. I live in Nevada and I am having the worse luck with my succulents they die from the heat and sun even in the shade, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I mist them when its super hot and I water them every 3 days because of the heat, I have no luck here. I lived in Florida an my plants were beautiful. Please please I need your advice!!??
@thehealthadventurer6919
@thehealthadventurer6919 6 лет назад
Lulu Perez Facio You might be overwatering your plants. Once every three days plus misting sounds like a like for succulents. Do some Google/RU-vid searches on the plants you have to get an idea how much water they need. Good luck!

Can you use a regular drill bit or does it have to be a diamond tile one?
@laurenmcgarrah2075
@laurenmcgarrah2075 4 года назад
The diamond tile is probably best. I even bought a bit specifically for tile/glass (the tip is more arrowhead than the cylinder) and it was soooo much work just to get a tiny hole and then I ended up shattering it anyway. I just found a set of 15 of the diamond tip on walmart.com for $15. I think it's going to be worth it.

I suppose with a mug or a tea cup you could use a cup saucer for the drainage, but I hate drainage holes in the bottom of indoor pots! I know it's necessary but having to use a little tray or saucer usually ruins the look I think. Any quirky or out-of-the-box suggestions for retaining the water so it doesn't ruin my wooden mantel? 😬
@gardenanswer
@gardenanswer 8 лет назад
+Emily Smith I agree with you on the saucer thing. Unless the saucer exactly matches the pot it's annoying to look at. ;) I haven't thought about any clever alternatives, but I will start thinking now..!!!

Using distilled water will prevent buildup of salts, if you're very careful watering when using a no-hole pot. Still a limited life - repot often. If you want a hole, you need something visible to catch water (and you need it to drain out to flush out salts). One solution with a hole is to water elsewhere or have a temporary saucer, and then let dry. Possibly then put down a coaster of material hidden under the no-hole pot that's absorbent or waterproof to protect the surface from any pot residue. You can also put a smaller plastic pot with holes within a larger pot without a hole, and occasionally tip any water out of the hole-less outer pot - sitting the plastic pot on stones within the no-hole pot is good here, especially for humidity loving indoor plants.

I usually take the pot to the sink and water it there and then leave it in the sink for water to drain. After I take it back to its place in my room!

I totally understand and agree with you, as that's how we've become used to using that word as a catch-all. It's used habitually and automatically by so many of us (including me when I don't catch myself!) to mean 'everyone' that its true meaning is lost and who it really refers to. It's totally different than using a phrase like "ya'll" as that's gender-free. It was just very distracting to hear her say it repeatedly. Other than that, her directions are awesome and she helped me learn how to successfully drill holes in the pots I have, which I did.
