TIP: If you place duct tape or painters tape inside of the tank where you are drilling the hole, it will do two things. 1) prevent the cut out from falling once you’re done drilling...and....2) It will significantly reduce the inside edges of the hole from chipping and flaking. 😉👍

Great video Jason. I have been looking around and have watched many videos on drilling tanks but this one has a lot of insight that the others I watched didn’t have. I actually feel more confident about drilling my tanks now. Thanks!

Hey, thumbs up Jason. I’ve drilled a ton of glass and granite and porcelain. You’ve explained it as simple as possible to the masses. A sponge is a great way to apply water as well. Drilling tanks is the game changer in any aquatic system. Separates the average from the obsession. Thanks again. And you can drill slow if you don’t know what you’re doing. Break a ten gallon or two.

Something I was told by a tank manufacturer about bulkhead placement is to have the hole from any side at least as many inches the hole is. So if your hole is 1.5" diameter, the hole needs to be at least 1.5" away from any edge. This will also help so that when you put the bulkhead in the lip or nut won't be on a silicone seam or on ot right up to the trim.

Drill from inside out You will be able to flood the are with water so I will be constantly lubricating the cut. It preserve the bit. Set the tank on Styrofoam so when you get to the end of the cut you just do not blast roufg and cut does not chip as easy. On some larger tank I actually glue 2x2 " plate to reinforce the area and prevent the glass from breaking

The diamond drill bit is not sintered, not electroplated, more like a brazed bond, am I right?

The bigger the tank the easier it should be because the glass is so thick

is it possible to drill a 6 inch hole in a tank, I want to put two four foot tanks end to end to make eight foot, then cut a 6 inch diameter hole so the fish can swim from one tank to the other, I will join the tanks together with a bulkhead or with silicone. can you get a six inch cutter
@JadrenAquatics

I'm sure there is a hole saw that size somewhere probably cost $200 with that much diamond powder on it lol

I want to drill my tanks so badly but I'm too afraid I'll break my tanks. They are large tanks so breaking them would be rough.

I was surprised that there is no mention of tempered glass. Someone watching this that is not aware will destroy their tank. Great step by step otherwise.
