Amazing job! Dying looks to be much less problematic than I had envisioned. I’ve got a black lamb skin coat that is in very good condition other than the color, which faded very quickly especially in wear areas. This looks like something I can definitely do myself and save my coat... Thanks!
I’ve only used Fiebings leather dye for touch ups, where leather had been rubbed or the color had faded due to use.... like seams, elbows, cuffs, the fold and edges of collars... heels and toe and heel cups. (I’ve rescued quite a bit of leather items from yard sales, estate sales and charity shops... that I got back to a wearable state and then either used myself or gifted to family and friends.) Now I am planning on fully dying a couple of shoes and boots. Most will be either a deeper shade of the same color .... like from a more muddy green or olive to a dark green... a tan to a medium to dark nut brown... and a medium brown to navy blue or black. (If the navy blue wont work, I’ll just dye it black.) -- For a leather conditioner, I really like Bick 4 or Bickmore’s Distressed Leather Lotion. And I clean everything with Fiebings (white!) Saddle Soap, first. If I dye something that I fear may have dye rubbing off on clothing or skin... like a purse... I either apply a coat of Fiebings Bag Kote or spray some Collonil Carbon Spray on it, to seal in the color. I also use the spray if I only use colored shoe cream to color in a few rubbed spots or only minor fading, that I don’t think need a full dye job. (I just apply a very light coating of cream on those spots or the area, let it dry down, then buff and brush off any excess, then use a color free wax polish all over and after buffing that, finally apply a coating of the spray.)
Hi Teri, Apart from reapplying the conditioner to the leather after applying the dye, is it necessary to apply some sort of sealant to prevent the dye from rubbing off or staining if the leather gets wet? How long did you let the dye dry on the leather before using the conditioner?
Soooo satisfying to watch you paint on the dye. Absolute magic. I've read that dyes have to be formulated specifically for jackets, and not shoes. Does the product have to state it's for jackets for it to be safe and not come off on clothing and skin? Will the standard Angelus dye work for my jacket?
Omg... seriously I can't believe how far you are 😭 I have a vintage Etienne Aigner leather coat that needs to be revamped...not look wise as it's in great condition but to be made a bit more fitted and modern.

Can i dye a red leather jacket black ? I bought it new..has little black dots all over it and.i cant return it so thought i would dye it. Is.it possible ?
