I had success using the steps followed in this video to dye my favorite Gore-Tex jacket. If you have Gore-Tex that is already colored, unlike mine which was a simple grey, I would recommend doing a bit more research. I can only say that I am very happy with the outcome of grey to brown. Hope this helps and feel free to ask questions or comment about your experience.

I was wondering if the heat caused any shrinkage in the jacket? Nice video! Thank ya!

I have a terrible mustard coloured gortex jacket that I want to dye, but I’m worried that the water repellent layer won’t take the dye. Does yours have that same layer over it? (The ugly colour was cheaper, and I needed a good jacket that would do me for good, so I went with the ugly colour…).

Sorry for the late reply. Well, I'm not sure if the construction of our jackets are the same, but the brown dye took real well to mine. You can repeat the process several times until you get the shade you like. Good luck!

Very impressed with results. Have you had any issues with waterproof quality since ?
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder 3 года назад
Thanks Richard. Yes I like it much better as a brown jacket. I haven't had any issues with the waterproofing and actually was caught in the rain for an hour last week. I would recommend (and wish I stressed this more in the video) to keep the water just under boiling...boiling seems to be the temp that would likely affect things...you could even try a much lower temp if you are really concerned. Thanks again for watching!

@@lkandlbinder today have you had any problems with the delamination of the seams? I would like to do this with a shell Gore Tex paclite jacket but I'm concerned about the delamination of the seams which usually delaminate overtime anyway
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder Год назад
@@GABRIEL_CRAFT hey Gabriel, I have not had any of those problems with delamination. I'm no expert but maybe keep the water temp from boiling...maybe even a little cooler than you might otherwise. Just an idea and I wish you luck!

Hi. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm looking to dye my desert camo British military Gore-tex jacket but worried about its effect of the waterproofness and breathability... Is your jacket still going strong? Did this process effect the Gore-tex in any way?
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder 2 года назад
Hey, thanks for watching and I'm glad it was a helpful video....my jacket has stayed waterproof after I dyed it. I've ridden it on a long cross country trip and stayed dry....I hope it works out for you...one thing I don't think I stressed enough in the video: keep the water very hot but not boiling...I have read that boiling will affect the waterproofing. Good luck!

@@lkandlbinder yes I've also read this in forums about keeping it just under boiling point... Just need to find a big pot to do it now haha. Thanks for your reply

Hahahaha, yeah funding a pot was tricky for me too...I think I found a big steamer pot at least Walmart for a out $20 but was also thinking I could go to an Asian cooking supply shop if I needed to. Good luck!

Would this would if I wanted a little color like a neon green? And would I need a lighter color jacket? I think clothing and sales only sale the ocp pattern and I wouldn’t know any where else to buy this style of jacket
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder 10 месяцев назад
Good questions and I'm not sure about how the colors you're working with will affect the dying process. It makes sense that it could be tough to get a neon color to pop if you're using a darker color. I wish you the best and thanks for watching!

how is gore tex after all this process? feeling not sure to start this because of the membrane...
@lkandlbinder

My gore tex held up just fine. I think the key is to not boil the water, just get it to almost boiling. Thanks for watching and best of luck

@lkandlbinder

Yes it probably would affect it if you boil. I note in the video to bring the water to 'almost' boiling. Thanks for clarifying that James and best of luck...so far so good with my jacket.

I've got a big Polaris kinda puffer style for snowboarding was wondering would this still work on that material?
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder 2 года назад
Hey Koshi sorry I'm just getting back to you. Your best bet would be to check out what material your jacket is made of and do a little research from there. I might be hesitant to put a puffer jacket in hot water just because of not knowing how that would affect the insulation. Best of luck with it and let's let me know how it goes!

will this work on jackets with DWR coating ? surely right ?
@lkandlbinder
@lkandlbinder 2 года назад
I can't say for sure but I would think, if anything, the hot water will remove the DWR, but then you could reapply/spay the DWR back on after the dying process. Let me know if you try it and good luck!

Do you think it is possible if I want to change my goretex jacket that was blue to white, and how do I see that there is no white dye from the rit brand itself😔
@lkandlbinder

Changing to White could be tricky, especially if there is no white dye option.
