Welcome to my guide for how to earn the Elite Trophy / Achievement for Metal Gear Solid! This is a complete walkthrough guide, but if you are looking for help with a particular section of the game, please see the time stamps in the description. Enjoy!
@@HegoDamaskll The English version uses different saves than the Japanese version, so you would have to earn the special items in the Japanese version if want to use them for your Fox playthrough.
The Japanese version is special. It’s essentially the same as the “easy” difficulty setting of other languages. You can still get the Fox rank in Japanese with the radar.
Also a little trick to save time for the long required codec calls. You can call the people first and it'll trigger those long convos instead of waiting. Like the long elevator call with Master just before the second Raven fight. Or in the prison cell you can call Campbell and Otacon to trigger those convos 👌🏻
The part with leaving Occolt in to say "You're pretty good" to respond to him gave you my like and an instant sub from me. Edit: Finally got the Fox ranking with: Time: 2:39:14 Save: 31 Times Continues: 0 Times Being Found: 4 Times Enemies: 19 Taken Out Rations: 0 Used Now I am doing it one more time for the Bandanna, the Tuxedo, and the Camera so I can get the "Exorcise a Ghost Photo" trophy, and then it is just the VR Missions
I thought this guide was awesome, going step by step really helped me. I managed to kill only 19 enemies and somehow wasn't spotted leaving the cell after the torture scene. Thank you man for this video!
Yeah, not triggering an Alert on Johnny with the grab strategy is kinda weird due to collision boxes or stuff like that when grabbing the guards like if you want to crush their necks, in my case whenever I don't bother having the Johnny Alert, I just throw him and then run to the room as the time you waste watching the scene of him running to the bathroom is almost the same as dragging him and KO him in the process while getting in the torture machine portion of the room. I got a lot of fun getting the Fox/Big Boss rank as I never bothered to do that in the past.
Ok but will u get mgs2 done? Mgs1 is easy asf sense u can cheese with special items and japanese version u can get the big boss rank on easy difficulty
Solid guide(no pun intended), very clear and carried my run to Fox. Cut it fine with 2:53 in total but still pulled it off despite some mess ups at the start.
I got the Elite trophy without having to do it! I don't know why, it might be a bug but here's what I did to get it so you can test it. I finished the game one time in normal mode and French language, got the bandana ending and received the code name "iguana". When I started the new game plus, the Elite trophy popped just like that at the beginning! Best bug in my life! 😁 Hopefully It will works for you too unless you want to do it legit! 😅
An excellent guide, one I'll be coming back to when I eventually do a casual replay of the game. This vid got me the Fox rank, total time 2 hours 27 minutes and 56 seconds, no continues, 4 alerts, 22 enemies killed and 0 rations used.
In the Communications tower stair-run, a guard can also shoot you and cause you to glitch through the otherwise impassable level 6 door. Happened to me after I failed to throw a stun grenade when reaching this landing.
I just tried to blasted my way through the tower. Thank god I made a new save file for that. Now I can do the boba skip. How are you evwn supposed to get the rank without a guide? Nevertheless thank you!
Thank you for this guied 🙂 PLAY TIME/ 2:20:54 SAVE/ 25 TIMES CONTINUES/ 0 BEING FOUND/ 3 ENEMIES/ 19 RATIONS/ 0 CODE NAME/ FOX 😊 SPAECIAL ITEMS "CAMERA" "BANDANA"
I recently replayed MG, MG2 and MGS for the first time since 2007-2009. I didn't remember anything specific about the MGS ranking system and didn't want to check out how it works before completing the game. I ended up very disappointed. Level: Normal Play time: 06h 00m 43s Save: 14 Continue: 0 Being Found: 3 Enemies killed: 23 Rations: 3 Rank: Tarantula I used the 3 rations in the beginning, before I decided to avoid their use: 1 in the shootout outside the cells, 1 against Ocelot, 1 against the M-1 Tank. Would've been easy to not use any. Turns out that I avoided saving in some places for nothing, as even Doberman rank allows 80 (!) saves. Also, if you use more than 1 ration, it only matters at 19... Continues don't matter, either, unless you go for the #1 ranks. So, apparently I could've played like absolute shit still gotten "Tarantula." MGS2 is up next - I completed it on Extreme around 2002-2003, but just like MGS1, I don't remember anything about the ranking system. Hopefully it has a bit more depth...
if i mess up at any part, do i need to close the game and reload the last save so it doesnt count as continue? or just press exit and reload the last save?
Another tip for fighting Rex is you can use Chaff Grenades in the first half of his fight to disable his weapons, fire two missiles than another chaff grenade
I believe that bringing up the in-game menu by holding L1 & R1 on PlayStation will pause the timer, and going back to the PlayStation home screen will also pause the timer. If you're playing on another console, I believe the equivalent shoulder buttons will also work (RB & LB).
This is incrediblely made. I've watched a lot but haven't started off yet as I just have one question- is it not easier to get the achievement to do it with the stealth camo you get rescuing Otacon? People online are saying that the achievement still unlocks with the camo equipped and I'm just wondering before I jump into another playthough - Thanks either way for this guide it's going to help me LOADS :) x
Yes, you may use special items like the stealth camo and bandana as they do NOT count against you. The problem is that you’d have to complete the game on Hard Mode to get them, so the choice is yours whether you want to start fresh and just play through it once or play through it two or three times on Hard Mode.
You can do it! Once you memorize his attack pattern, the first half of the fight becomes much easier. After that, it’s a bit of luck to get him to hide kind of close to you. The strong punch phase is easy too.
Waiting on the credits to see if i did it correctly. Its a very good video around and i appreciate the level of care you've put into the video. This is my favorite franchise and we need people like you making this kind of content.
I didn't know about that frozen door hack. Omg that is amazing. At first, I thought they patched it, I didn't have my key card equipped, I was trying to save flash grenades with the bandana equipped.
This was a great guide but i wish you put more emphasis on not killing guards at the start wirh Meryl. I havent killed any guards outside that section and the other mandatory parts nd im on 26 no matter what. Im going to restart from that part of the game. So basically i wasted my time. Really sucks because i meet all other criteria im just stuck at 26
Excellent guide! It helped me with 1-2 cases regarding kills that I had doubts 😊 (elevator and at the start with Meryl). I actually did a great playthrough but I got 6 alerts and I still cannot understand why! 😅 I didn't see any alerts on top right corner, or have been seen by any guard... 😢 I thought that Gun Cameras or Vulcan Raven's exclamation mark during his fight do not count! 😢
I know this was 7 months ago but i tried to aim for elite trophy and i got 6 alerts and i swear i didnt see the alert thingy pop up, very frustrating, did you find out what triggered yours?
Gosh I don't know how but I used a ration for the weapons glitch to skip the Hind D fight and somehow I didn't use a ration the whole entire rest of the game. It was especially stressful during the jeep chase, because the controls and stuff suck at that part
@@MaskedMatador haha yeah, thank you! And thank you for making this guide it really did help. Now all I need to do is the VR missions and find the camera to take a ghost picture
@monkadude15 I have a guide for the VR missions, so be sure to check that one out. The camera is by where you fought Ocelot. From the hallway where you enter that boss fight, go to the right and use some C4 to blow up the far right wall. There are gun cameras in the next room, so be careful. The camera item is found in one of the security doors. If you get out of the torture cell, you have the right card key and you are close by where you need to be. Take a picture of the post where President Baker was tied up, and that picture will have a ghost. You need to go back to the main menu, to the Special menu, and look at the photo to see it and have the prompt to “exorcise” the photo. Easy peasy.
@@MaskedMatador awesome, thank you so much! I'll definitely be checking your VR guide out and picking up that camera. I'm currently in the tank hanger now, if I remember correctly that is near the Ocelot fight right? Or I guess it would be easier to relod the torture save instead?
@@monkadude15Yes, the elevator in the tank hanger gets you to B2 where the Ocelot fight is. You just need to have the right card key, which is the Level 4 card. If you're still at the beginning of the game, it would be faster to reload the torture save, but if you have the Level 4 card, you can get the camera now.
A great guide. It's been a hell of a long time since I've cleared the first game, used this vid to jog my memory of disc 2. A lot shorter than I remember.
1:54:00 ……Duck. …..DUCK?!?!! … YOU CAN $&@&ING DUCK!!!????!!! I’ve played this game a hundred times just to find out right this moment that you can DUCK LIQUIDS PUNCHES!!!!!!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Wath? I unlocked the stealth camo amd bandana for this but they cant be used? I played it on normal but cant change the difficult, soo i am doomed to play without special items? EDIT: yes i am screwed, i guess will try it on japanese
If you’ve unlocked the stealth camo or bandana on Hard mode already, you can use them as they do NOT prevent the Fox rank, but unlocking those items on a different difficulty will not carry over. This game isn’t very difficult, and with this guide and the 80 allowable saves, you shouldn’t have much of an issue, but you can also use the Japanese version to make it even easier.
For some reason the ketchup never works for me. I lay down, equip it, and try to use it (Hold LT press B) but it just makes the eh-eh noise. This has happened on both US and Japanese versions. Fortunately, I remembered the alternate escape method of crawling under the cot. This actually makes it easier to not catch Johnny's cold, because if you time it right, you crawl out right when he takes a few steps into the room away from the door and then just stand up and run out to his diarrhea cutscene point without ever touching him.
💥BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA!!!💥 Achievement pop! Thanks for the help! 😎🤙🏻 The tension waiting to see if I got 25 or fewer kills was MADDENING! 😅 Came out with 22. Saved 44 times, and that was what I felt was a more appropriate amount to prevent redundancy. Definitely recommend more liberal saving.
Realized my Ketchup problem was trying to use it with the item menu open, like you use Rations and Diazepam. Hafta use it with the menu closed. Still prefer hiding under the bunk though.
Yeah, I definitely could have saved more often. I think I was worried about the time limit, and every save adds a little time. It’s probably like 15 seconds to save the game, and at 80 saves, that would add 20 minutes to the clock. I suppose that’s not terrible because it’s easy to finish the game way before the additional save times would cause a problem.
Just cleared the game with Fox rank using the Japanese version (not integral) and the achievement didn’t pop :( I hope they didn’t patch using that version?
I also played Japanese language version (not integral) found this guide very informative. Got stuck on metal gear Rex so used my 1 ration there instead of the end as you have plenty of health to play with during that sequence in Japan version
Does getting spotted by a gun camera count against you? Or being spotted by the wolves? Also it’s okay to be spotted by Johnny after escaping the cell, as long as you don’t trigger any other non-mandatory alerts?
Gun cameras do not count, but surveillance cameras do count as they set off an alarm. Wolves do not count for alarms, but they do count for kills, so don’t kill them. You can be seen by Johnny, but don’t be seen by anyone else (apart from the mandatory alerts).
You hace a new suscriptor here. I have a question: I completed the game once on Normal. Now I have the stealth but I can’t change the difficultu to hard. Is there any way to do that?
Thanks for subscribing! I really appreciate it! The special items you unlock (stealth camo and bandana) are tied to the difficulty level. You’d have to beat the game on hard unlock them for the hard mode playthrough.
For he stun grenade door glitch, do i need to do anything when it explodes, or will it automatically knock me through the door? I feel like i'm trying to move snack through the door once it goes off but it never works. Just sitting there also never seems to work.
It will push you through automatically. Don’t move yourself. I have another video on my channel that explains it in more detail: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u8UrW_2aH5I.html&pp=ygUObWFza2VkIG1hdGFkb3I%3D
The Japanese version only has one difficulty that is the same as easy in other languages. Yes, you can get the Fox Rank in the Japanese version, so feel free to do that. You still need to avoid being seen, get few kills, and follow the other requirements to get the Fox Rank just like if you were playing on the Hard difficulty.
@@darren8714 Yes, each of those games requires a much more difficult speed run of the game. I'm working on my research now in preparation for those runs.
I used the ration way at the end of the game during the final escape sequence. If you need to use one now, that’s fine, but you’ll have to be very careful at the end of the game.
Can someone help me out and answer my questions: -If i get seen or killed can i just exit or close the game and reload? -If i pause the Game does the time still run?
You can exit and reload; you don't need to close the whole game down. You can also hold R1 and L1 (or whatever shoulder buttons you have on your controller) to access the in-game menu, then you can choose to return to the main menu. Yes, you can pause the game with the start / options button to stop the time. Opening the codec menu does not stop the time.
The hardest part for me was that stupid ambush after the Darpa Chief. Mainly because of the minimum kills thing. But also because whatever damage you get, you won't recover until after sniper wolf
You recover some of your health after boss fights, but not necessarily all of it. You do get all health back after Sniper Wolf 1 to prepare you for the torture sequence.
Hey, a bit late to the Party, but for psycho mantis chair and vase attack you can just lie down and avoid them all. Might work for the pictures to, but i dont remember
Thanks for the comment. Yes, you’re pretty much immune to his attacks except his psychic energy ball when you lie down (I think the chairs can still hurt you if he puts them down on top of you). Unfortunately, you can’t attack while lying down, but you can just stand up and go back to fighting after he finishes an attack.
Oh. I dont know what will happen if he drops the chairs on to you. However, you can crawl to him, stand up, 3 hit combo him lie down and repeat. It is relativly safe.
Thank you so much, this guide saved me a headache and a half. Played this on the Japanese version, but still had a 20 minute time loss compared to your time. Luckily your guide gave me just enough padding and got me the achievement! Many blessings upon ye.
Hi im going for my last trophy...earning the fox rank . Im trying to make it easier on myself by playing the Japanese version, ive heard theres only one difficulty but when ive just loaded it up theres all the difficulties there ??? Have they fixed this or can i just select easy and carry on ? .many thanks man your guides are amazing !!!
Do i need to play yhe original game but in Japanese language to be able to do it on easy? I've just started it like this and it just threw me in with no difficulty selection . Have I just wasted an hour on integral? Lol
You can’t play on Normal; it would have to be Hard unless you are playing on the Japanese version because that difficulty is the same as “easy” mode. Hard difficulty’s best rank is Fox, and the Extreme difficulty’s best rank is Big Boss.
That’s awesome! I love how no matter how many times you play a game like this, there’s always something new to learn. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Liked and subbed, your guide was perfect that was so helpful, thank you very much! I even manage to pull out the Boba skip by being shot by a guard 😆 Are you planning to do MGS2 Big boss rank as well ?
Amazing guide very helpful thank you! One thing though, in Blast Furnace instead of the very cool set up you can just use the crouch button under the crane!
A funny thing about the crane in the blast furnace: The starting position and movement of the crane is randomly generated based on when Snake enters the stairs, so while you can crouch under it, it can take a VERY long time to get through that section depending on the randomness of the crane. Also, on hard mode, the nearby guard has good enough vision to see if you if you have to wait too long. That's actually what happened to me when I was playing through, so I had to switch the strategy to sneakily destroy the crane. It ended up being way faster (and cooler) to destroy the crane. I think that's one of the few non-scripted things in the game apart from the boss fights and the wolves.
When I do the bob skip I keep getting blown up? Was there a patch to stop people from doing this??? Even when I get past the catwalk into the next door I keep blowing up
Did you resist Ocelot's torture? Check your inventory for a bomb. He put one in there and it blows you up for an insta-kill. You can throw it away and be safe. That's always been a part of the game, and you probably get a codec call to warn you about it, but since we skip all codec calls, you aren't getting the warning. 😄
@@MaskedMatador Oh my god. That's what it was lmao (going for the bandana achievement this run as well). I've backtracked a couple saves but now I'm good now haha. Dude, seriously, thank you. You've made this whole ordeal soooo much more bearable. You're awesome my friend, I can't thank you enough!!!!
@@brandonashley9659 You're very welcome! I'm glad the video is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions and enjoy the rest of the run!
@@MaskedMatador Checking in a couple hours later, the Elite achievement (and Decked Out) was a success!!! Thank you a again so much I greatly appreciate you making this, I couldn't have done it without you!!!
@@MaskedMatador thank you man, I made it past the hind with minimal damage and finished the fox run last night. Couldn’t have done it without your video, incredibly put together and super helpful
@jakew4870 There are a few reasons. First, the guards in the elevator ambushes (one in the tower and one before Raven) take less damage from weapons, so it’s faster to choke them out because they bypasses their defense. Second, when you hold them, the enemy acts as a meat shield to block some damage if the enemy tries to shoot at you. So from both an offensive and defensive perspective, it’s better to choke them out. If you are struggling with it, you can use weapons, but you’ll probably take more damage that way.
@MaskedMatador oh ok that makes sense ty for the explanation, it's im just so worried about my kill count (under 25), I think I've only killed 3 (when Merrill let me put of the cell maybe 4) so far, I just don't know how many more kills are required
I’m not 100% sure if pausing the game really stops the timer. I think the answer is no, but if you suspend the game by going to the console’s Home Screen / dashboard, the timer would be stopped at that point. Then you can resume the game when you want to continue.
@W1ck3d_p I suppose an easy way to test it would be to play through the opening part until you can call Mei Ling to save it. Then pause and wait for a few minutes. If you save it again and the total play time did not change, you will know that pausing stops the clock. If the time does change, then pausing does not stop the clock.
You need to play on the original version (the top choice when looking at the four versions in the menu; from top to bottom, I believe the order is Original, VR Missions, Special Missions, and Integral) of the game for that to work. The original Japanese version does not let you choose the difficulty. If you can see a difficulty setting on the Japanese version, you're probably playing the Integral version of the game, and you'd need to play on Hard or Extreme in the Integral version to get the trophy.
@MaskedMatador Bummer. I finished it back in the day on hard / extreme but it took me way longer than 3 hours . Probably like 6 hours plus . This will be a task for sure
@@Thehulksterbeast It shouldn't be too difficult with this guide. You can pause the in-game timer by pausing the game, and you get more saves than you need. Just be sure to skip all the cutscenes and codec calls, and you'll finish with plenty of time to spare.
Another tip: If you choose to play the Japanese version of the game in the menu, you'll only have one difficulty option which is equivalent to American easy. But you can still get Fox rank on it which will make things much easier.
@@TheMasterUnity awesome, thanks! I really struggled with this game on normal. Hard is a whole different level for me. I think my gaming prime was 10 years ago lol
