In this video, How To: Easiest Way to Catch Walleye in the Fall, Hobie-Wan Kenobi shows you how to find and catch quality walleye in the fall using aggressive tactics.
Many people fish too deep or too slow for walleye this time of year. The walleye are feeding up preparing for winter and are HUNGRY. The walleye will cruise shallow weeds and and rock walls looking for perch and other fish to eat. September, October and November are great times to catch big walleye and numbers of good sized eater walleye too.
I like covering water using moving baits like crankbaits to locate where fish are. Using live bait rigs can be effective but, can take a long time to find walleye. Using moving lures can find the fish and then you can slow down and use live bait, jerkbaits or other slower techniques to coax some of the inactive fish in the school to bite.
Using lures like a jerkbait can really trigger the walleye to bite when the bite is slow. Quality walleye can be found by fishing around rock walls in the fall time. I hope this video helps you catch more walleye from a kayak, boat or even from shore.
You also cannot underestimate the power of using finesse bass techniques. Ned rigs, shakeyheads and dropshots all catch walleye as well. This is usually the last technique I use because it does not cover water as fast. If I see fish on the sonar and they are not biting moving baits, I will toss a Ned rig to see if I can get a fish or two. That usually works. BFS gear shines here if fishing around flooded timber. The Curado BFS XG is a great choice to toss jigs and plastics for walleye.
Wind swept points are another great way to locate walleye. If the wind is blowing the same direction for a few days, it gets even better as it create a current of sorts to funnel food to the walleye. If you are fishing a reservoir, remember that it still has current although it looks like a lake.

St Croix Legend Elite 7ft Lite (custom), Shimano Curado BFS XG
Lures: Rapala X-Rap Deep 09, Strike King 3XD Perch, Zman TRD skirted jig with Zman Craw trailer.
I use the Alphas SV TW and Phenix K2 for my all-round medium setup. I throw finesse jigs, jerkbaits, senkos, shakeyheads...pretty much anything 1/8oz to about 1/2oz.
I use the Abu Garcia Veritas and Tatula SV TW for moving baits and topwater lures. Really well rounded setup for walleye.

I love Keitech Easy Shiners around weeds. I will Texas Rig them and make contact with the weeds. Those tails swim nice but....seems to get tore up FAST. I usually save them for a slow cold water bite because they swim great in cold water/

Shallow jerkbaits only because the river here is about 5-6 foot max.

That is my go to most times. Around dusk, I like to cast clown color around rock piles by the shore. You will see a wake sometimes when they come out and crush it.

Just cover water and look for the aggressive ones. If you know they are there and not biting fast lures, slow down and use plastics.

Nice video Hobie. We do not have walleyes in Germany but a very similar species called Zander (pike perch). I mainly use plastics (shad, craw) jigged on a ball head. Sometimes,especially in the summer, shallow jerkbaits parallel to the shore line work well at night.

That same technique works for walleye in the USA as well. I like to use soft plastics around weeds and wood.

When u got to that tree where you caught the pike, I didn’t know you switched rods and I thought you skipped that jerkbait in there. I was very impressed until I realized in was just a jig.

Hahahaha....If I could skip a jerkbait, I would be touring the country giving lessons. Maybe even make a late night infomercial and sell my secrets for 19.99 (plus shipping and handling).

That rod is it good for blue gills and crappie plus are they good rods or Dobyns are they better for crappie and bluegill fishing I don’t like no noodle rod

If you are talking about the green rod with pink wraps that I skipped the jig on, that is the St Croix Legend Elite 7ft Lite. I built it on that blank back when St Croix sold high end blanks. I prefer this rod for panfish to the Dobyns but, the Dobyns still does well for panfish. The Dobyns has a little more power.

@@eugenejohnson8635 I think they perform good but, their blanks are on the heavy side too. Little tip heavy with the bigger rods.
