How to Easily and Accurately Adjust a Metal Cut Off Saw
I show a simple and effective way to adjust and set the miter gauge on a metal cutting chop saw. I've been using this method for a few years now. Every time I set my cut off saw I wonder why it took so long for me to find this method. I hope that it helps you be more accurate and productive.
Thanks for watching and reading!

Handy trick! An addendum to this is if you find yourself making the same cut very frequently (90, 45, 22.5), you can tighten the miter gauge hard in place, and drill through it and the saw bed to receive a locating pin. It'll put you "close enough for welding" with less fiddling back and forth.

That's a great idea!

This is exactly how I do mine. Glad to see others doing it. I have precut 2x4s at 22.5°, 30° and 45° that I use to set my fence. Great tip.

This is so simple! I really appreciate it. This'll help with all the angle iron I gotta cut tomorrow for welding a shelf. Thanks!

I need to cut a 60.83 degree cut on some 3x5 steel on my band saw later today. This was perfect timing. Getting close to that angle will be much easier on my wood miter saw. 👍🏼👊🏼
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 3 года назад
60.83! That's pretty tight tolerances.
@ManCrafting
@ManCrafting 3 года назад
Make Build Modify I was wrong. It was 60.84. I’m thinking 61 will probably be ok. 🤣
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 3 года назад
@@ManCrafting yeah, it will probably move more than .16 when you weld it.🔥

Not sure if they exist but a wing nut combined with a regular one would help so you first could tighten it with hand to stop it from moving and then with a wrench of choice.

What about vertical adjustment? I just bought DeWalt chop saw and find out that doesn't have vertical adjustment, and stupid blade isn't square with base....
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 3 года назад
Wow! That's terrible. Most of these are not adjustable in that direction. But I will say that the blade can wander and make it appear that the saw is out of square in that direction.

Thanks! I build homes for a living. Lots of labor and little time for videos. I'm making an effort to change that though. Although, we still have a duplex, triplex, and two homes in the planning stage.

Just use your angle finder, then you dont have to create waste or walk away from the tool.
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 3 года назад
I reuse the scrap. There's no waste. Plus, most angle finders don't have degrees. So, you're in the same boat when it comes to walking away and finding a way to set the angle finder. But hey whatever works for you.

How do I know if my chop saw has a flaw
@Makebuildmodify
@Makebuildmodify 6 месяцев назад
There are video about testing chop saws. But one way to check is to cut an angle with the table to the left and check it to the same angle to the right.
