How To Easily Beat Xenosaga Episode II (Part 1) 

I love that the best combat guide for this niche nearly 20 year old game is a multi part 13 years old video consisting of this guy just squating infront of their CRT and passing their knowledge to the future like some sort of holy sage. WE ARE BLESSED BY YOUR WISDOM!

Commenting from 2022 and finding this very useful. I will now finally beat Xenosaga II after 20 years (resumed up my save and had no idea what was going on).

2024 Future man here. This game is still being played through PCSX2 on Steam Deck. Love the video, I am currently battling some crazy woman with a green lightsaber... the force is strong with her!

this game didnt suck,it was just too much of a challenge for someone that didnt play the first game. its just that you need to think and this games comes to be easy,and rather enjoyable

Yes and no. I've beaten the game at LV. 40 before, but really, it just makes the game easier if you get to LV. 55 at the Dammerung, because you'll never find a better grinding strategy than this one-time visit with Shion.

Good on ya! After I get em in the air I follow up with kosmos, then after they drop I have Ziggy pound on the ground until boost is dry. Was able to take out most bosses in one go

@J4B0i There's no one good place to grind for CP, and SP only gets slightly easier to obtain later on in the game. If you're wanting SP for a new, awesome party (LIKE KOS-MOS, JR., AND MOMO. SERIOUSLY), then you can get some while on foot at Old Miltia (present, NOT 14 years ago). I wouldn't recommend grinding at anywhere before that point, unless you're by yourself with Shion at the Dammerung. Do NOT grind at the Dammerung with the awesome party, it's not worth it.

Good tips, however it would have been better if you demonstrated this the first time you went through the dungeon, not when your characters are level 83.

@blkmattymatt WITHOUT A DOUBT: Shion at the Dammerung. Once you get to Disc 2, you should be playing as Shion by herself. I grinded/solo'd her for about 30 hours, and rose her level from 20 to 80, which then raises everyone else to LV. 80 as well! I've never found a better way to level up either, and I've beaten all of the optional bosses too. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT wait until you get everyone and then go back to the Dammerung: you won't get much. Just use Shion by herself.

wow, this is awesome. Playing this game now because I want to get through the trilogy(I loved Xenogears and thought Saga ep 1 was ok) but I'm having a hard time getting into this one(just beat Albedo in Sakura's Domain though, so I must be doing something right). Anyway, thanks for the great advice shown here, I think I can have some more fun with the game now.

Strange how you say to only use those three. I've been playing this game for years and years (obsessed) and my favourite team is chaos, Jr. & MOMO. On playthroughs I use different teams and whatnot and you never "need" a certain team. But still lovely video, belle!~

I agree - the battle system was poorly-explained and vastly under-loved. This whole series had so much potential but was plagued with a slightly-less-than-perfect execution, and therefore harsh criticism.

@DJ17Nario Today I finally beat this game. Not just beat, but I enjoyed it a lot too, thanks to your tips. Followed all of them, except not lvling Shion to 55 while she was alone(I had the chance, but I hate grinding and like a challenge). At least it made the game far more playable. Just taking a short break before I start on Episode 3... And again, thanks a lot :)

Would this also work with Jin instead of Jr since they both have non-elemental attacks? Seems to mainly exclude Ziggy, Chaos, and Shion.
