TIP... have the "good" side under the ruler, so if you do jump out of the groove, you mess up your excess, not the piece you need. :)

3:57. I used my battery orbital tool with the same ½ round blade to cut a temporary window for a car. It worked great. First cut thin plywood for a template, then followed the edge with the saw blade to cut thin plexiglass. Worked like magic. Thanks!

I watched a few other videos from other people with no satisfaction. Your video doing the curves with the Dremel cut off wheel did the trick for me! I didn't have the same wheel you did. but I took the thin brown one that was worn down well over halfway and it worked great! More like a dental tool , but I had smaller and sharper curves to cut on 4 corners.. Then I took a conical grinding stone that was worn down half way and that smoothed it all out. Thank you !!!

I use an oscillating tool - (known in the UK as a multitool) all the time to cut large sheets into blanks for my laser cutter . Best, fastest option, no contest - and I've tried everything. I usually only cut 1 or 2mm down into 3 or 5mm plastic and then snap it.

What works for me is a circular saw. I turn the saw blade around so that it is sawing from the back of the cutting edges. I lay the plastic on a sheet of plywood and set the depth to just deep enough to cut about 1/16" into the plywood. I make sure that I use a straight edge. What seems to work best is a trim blade (fine tooth). Good luck.

Plexiglass or by the technical name polycarbonate is pretty tough to snap it’s very ductile so for that it would need to be a pretty thin piece like less than 1/16 thick, I think even 1/8 would be hard to cut with the scoring method. Acrylic on the other hand is brittle so the scoring method of cutting might work better on thicker sheets. It might be good to score both sides for extra insurance that “crack” created won’t propagate away from in line with the score mark on thicker sheets.

No. Polycarbonate trade name is Lexan. Plexiglas or perspex is acrylic or polymethylacrylate.
@MowgliX
@MowgliX Год назад
No. Plexiglass is acrylic, also known as polymethyl methacrylate, (PMMA). It is also maketed under names such as Lucite and Perspex. Same thing. It was invented in Germany in 1933. Polycarbonate (PC) or Makrolon on the other hand was invented in Germany in 1953. In the US it is mostly known as Lexan.

No. You should salt your pasta while you boil it, not after. Unless you don't care to salt it at all, then just boil it like you normally would without adding salt. Avoid rinsing it when you strain it, though, or your sauces won't mingle as well with the pasta itself.

It takes about 25 minutes to manually score through 1/2" of the clear stuff. The first 1/4" take 15 minutes, and keep clearing the scoring area clean. I recommend a coping saw with a very fine blade, honestly.
@Walkercolt1

Funny, plastic shops (Cadillac Plastics Inc.) use table saws with REVERSED DIAMOND TIP BLADES for 99% of straight cutting of acrylic and Lexan sheets. Another plastic fabricator shop locally taught me that as well as how to fire-polish an edge with a propane torch or an oxy-acetylene torch. A carbide tipped saw blade will work. A scoring knife won't work on rubber-infused Lexan which is FAR superior to any other clear material for shatter-resistance thickness for thickness.

As a new homeowner, my wife and I want to skin our lanai's screened wall with acrylic panels. I watched your video to learn how to work with acrylic. Do you think drilling multiple screw holes along the edges of the panels would allow the panels to be held up with screws to the aluminum frame? We even thought we would use double-sided Flex tape between the aluminum beams and screw holes to create a softer contact and some gasket effect (hope I used that word correctly). We keep watching videos to get a sense of how much acrylic can take in stress--hanging from screw holes, or what will stick to them. If you have an opinion, thanks in advance for sharing.
