Jessica, my grateful thanks for the info. You’ve answered an important question for me. I am in the UK so winters can be frosty and snowy and I have always kept my plants in a heated greenhouse. I’m running out of space (I’m a compulsive propagator!) and was pleased to see that you have kept your plants outside despite a (maybe rare) drop in temperature. I am now going to keep some of mine in a cold greenhouse and see how they fare. Thanks again.

Hello, I seen in the comments you are a little south of me, I’m bringing a angel trumpet plant from sac to oroville. I just dug it up today, cause I’m moving and I wanna take it with me. It’s about 3ft x 3ft and been in its shady spot for about 5 years. I put it in a 5g pot with new potting soil. I’m planting it at my new place near the turtle pond, in full sun till about 2 in the afternoon. It looks really bad right now, i didn’t cut any leaves off and it’s wilted terribly. I hope it survives…
@Mrsjessiemarie
@Mrsjessiemarie 2 года назад
Hello. It's completely normal for the leaves to wilt and likely fall off or crumble before it bounces back. It may take a few months to recover and there is a good chance the tree will get worse before it gets better but as long as you keep it well watered it'll bounce back. You should see new growth coming in around April/may if the tree decides to go dormant for the winter. To check if the tree is alive and not in recovery mode do a brach test by scratching a piece of a lower branch, if it's green the tree is alive. I hope this helps, good luck!

What scared me is that I really wanted to do it. The greatest beauty i've had is brugmansia. I don't care anymore whether I live or brugmansia. I accept my brugmansia. I picked off some 10+ caterpillars off mine but I also fed most of those caterpillars to my three venus fly traps which they digested pretty quickly. Do you overwinter yours or just leave them outside? I'm in Sacramento and we rarely get below 30 and only get into the freezing temps a couple nights a year. I'm thinking of just keeping them in my small green house.

Caterpillars and snails seem to be the biggest issues with Angel's Trumpet. I've never owned a venus fly trap but I'm really interested in getting a few now :-) I'm located just south of you, in Modesto. I keep mine outdoors in the winter. They'll take a little hit with the cold but they recover quickly & become stronger in my opinion.

Hello 👋 I add extra water and remove any yellowing leaves. These trees can have significant leaf loss when producing a good bloom. I like to flood the base of the tree (I have sandy soil) late morning/early afternoon and use the hose to spray off any loose leaves. I Hope this helps 😊

Hi I just got one of these plants I am in zone 9b .... I would like to plant it in the ground however the only place I could do it is a west exposure.... might be too hot? I also have another spot that gets sun on my patio that is a covered area but it is not too big. how do I control this plant from getting out of hand. If I keep it on the patio I would have to keep it trimmed to keep control of it. my house faces north but the yard gets the east and hot west exposure any advice to help would be great
@Mrsjessiemarie
@Mrsjessiemarie 3 года назад
Hi, I'm also in 9b and I have trumpets in full sun and shade. The ones in shade grow faster but both locations seem to be OK for the plants. As far as keeping them under control you'll have to trim them a few times a year because they can grow pretty fast.

I usually trim mine after winter; however, it doesn't get to freezing temperatures where I'm located often, and when it does, it's not for more than a few days at a time. I usually trim the damaged parts of the tree just before spring.

What should I do to force my brugs to bloom??? I'm at my wits ends. I used to have abundances of blooms back in Georgia, but, now in East Tennessee, they just sit there and pout. The leaves looked a little sickly so I sprayed for spider mites, I fertilized. . . but no blooms. I tries them in the sun, the leaves burned, I put them in the shade and they looked depressed. Put them in the soil, no dice, I placed them in pot, forget it. I mayI sound like a newbie gardener but I am really not. I know spring was pretty cool, but it's been in the nineties recently and I know that's warm enough. What to do Jessica?
@Mrsjessiemarie
@Mrsjessiemarie Год назад
Hi, I'm sorry you're having trouble with your blooms. Try heavy watering early morning and mid afternoon. One of my trumpets has been struggling recently, I doubled my watering, and it's starting to improve. Feel free to hose down the entire plant, knocking off yellow leaves in the process. Trumpets love water 💧

Hi, there are a lot of writing about the Angel Trompet plants being direct poisonous and over time might cause allergic reactions. Even inhaling the nice smell from them is put into question. I saw you handling the cuts and the plants without gloves and you have so many in your apparently rather closed garden that the odour might be concentrated. Don't you think taking precautions is necessary?
@Mrsjessiemarie
@Mrsjessiemarie 2 года назад
Hi, thank you for your concern. I am not an expert but in all my years of dealing with this plant I have yet to have any issues. Unless you are sensitive to the plant or plan on boiling it as a tea etc... There shouldn't be any issues.
@jorgen742
@jorgen742 2 года назад
@@Mrsjessiemarie I just read about a man who suspected that the allergy he suffers after many years of handling plants is caused by the Angel Trompet. He has no prove that it is actually due to this plant, but recommed the use of gloves for all handling of it. I myself also make new plants like you do, but I think that for the future I will not touch them without gloves. I even took plants with a few flowers inside when the frost came some years ago (I live in Denmark) - that I will not do again.

Hi! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Trumpet. It's hard to know what could help your Trumpet since I am unable to see it. Personally, I don't fertilize mine, however I do use snail bait to prevent damage to the plant. Usually leaf drop happens when the tree is producing flowers. The soil should constantly be moist, Angel Trumpets love heavy water. If all else fails, maybe try relocating the Trumpet to a sunny place. Please let me know if any of this helps and let me know if you have any other questions 😊
