The Speed-Feed trimmer head is the fastest loading bump-to-advance style head on the market. In fact, it can be reloaded without disassembly in 30 seconds or less - there is no need to press in stiff tabs or unlock covers just to re-load line

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ru-vid.comUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Not only doesn't this video show how to properly feed the line, the vid shows the operator turning the tool UPSIDE DOWN as he spins the head. So of you do this with the tool RIGHTSIDE UP, you will have it backwards, and if you follow ECHO's instructions and turn the tool upside down to do this, the tool will not start because the engine will be flooded. Whoever made this video never actually used the product. I am now disassembling the head because the line is not advancing, it is instead retreating further inside the head. Not the first time I have done this, thanks to ECHO's video

You put the spool in backwards. there is an outside edge and an inside edge. Switch those and the string loosens in the reel and unravels. It is really elementary. When you first experience the madness, Stop, disassemble and flip the reel the opposite. Mark the reel before closing so you won't have to deal with it again. O for outside use a blade and score the plastic edge.

You know it may feed that well during its first year of service, but goes downhill quickly as use causes slop in the innards. When the line breaks, and it will, you still have to take it apart to remove the old and then you can find no guidance on which side of the spool L or R goes on the bottom. Looks reversible, obviously not.

I bought one of these trimmers a month ago, and have not been able to make the bump-to-advance work. I am using Echo Cross Fire .095 line and followed this video exactly to wind the line on the head. I still can't make the line advance - no amount of bumping on concrete or grass makes it come out. I have to stop the trimmer and mess around with the head before a few inches will come out. A few times, nothing would work and I took the head off and rewound it. Any ideas? I do like this trimmer - it starts up very easily and does a good job on my tough pasture grasses - it would be perfect if I didn't have to mess with the line so much. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

@victoroneill7924
@victoroneill7924 4 года назад
@@UnArmedFilms4U The instructions are incomplete. If you have to take the trimmer head apart to remove leftover line the instructions don't tell you exactly how to put it back together. The spool has a very small "L" on one side that MUST go down (towards the ground). If you put the "L"" up the spool will not turn and wind up the line. I found that on a RU-vid video not by Echo but by some old man. I called Echo customer service and they didn't know that the "L" had to go down. The head works great until you're down to the last 2 feet, and then the line breaks off inside the head, forcing you to tear it apart and reload. So basically, you get about 9 feet of line for each side, then you have to reload. There's 'dead length' on the spool you'll never use. The bump advance works fine for me. Still better than the 'Rapid Load' default head I had on my GT-225. It was a ripoff buying strings for that head. The 400 is good for casual trimming, but you'll be reloading a lot if you plan to use it for big jobs. Overall, I give it an A-.
@grasscutter88
@grasscutter88 8 лет назад
I hate these, they're too complicated to take apart. I'm actually very good at taking things apart and putting them back together and these things threw me for a loop. I jacked around with the spool for 30 minutes until I found the tiny arrows that have to be fitted into one another for the spool to let the line out, otherwise it just spools the line back inside the head when you bump it. No way I'm messing with taking this assembly apart when the line melts inside. I stick with the old fashioned heads.
@grasscutter88
@grasscutter88 8 лет назад
My regular heads just shoot the line out one side so the spool is normally empty when I reload it. I only lose about 10''
@echousa
@echousa 8 лет назад
Thanks for your comment. The Speed-Feed is designed to be re-loaded without taking it apart. If you align the arrows on the top disc with the holes the line will feed right through and a simple twist loads it on the head. If you do need to take it apart, there are two tabs on either side that push in and the head separates.

I don't use this head with an Echo machine. But i tap it and give full or half throttle...and then it comes out.

"Just?" just knock bump, then bump, then harder then knock the shit out of it and it stihl doesn't work. Well all of these companies make a good product, but their whistles don't work worth a shit, warning to all of you who like the word "new"

Wow, I did not read the comments before I posted mine. Glad to know I’m not the only guy who has to restring 10 times a freakin trim. Sorry to all you other weed eater users who have had to use this torture device. I know exactly what y’all are going through. If anyone has a recommendation on a different head, please let me know.

The ugly head is a handy and useful head on most trimmers. It has three spools where you easily thread, and be in business ASAP. Try it. Cost $29.95

These have been total time savers on all of my trimmers. I've had past issues with some .095" line. Not all line is created equal. Remember the Speed-Feed 400 can handle line up to .105" and the Speed-Feed 450 will handle up to .130" line.

Doesn't work. I wrestled all day with it. Doesn't feed line properly and has to be constantly fooled with. Fail

I just messed with mine for the last hour before giving up. I followed the instructions, and all of the line all instantly empties out as I run it and it gets tangled around the shaft. I would have better luck attaching steak knives to the shaft with duct tape. Very disappointed.

You obviously didn't follow them that good . Operator error.

Seems all right so far. Not that easy to thread because of the curvature of the line coming off the spool. Time will tell if this head is the real deal.

+ECHO USA John Deere T30S. Pretty old now that I think about it. May be the same as the Homelite T30S, not sure. Thanks for the reply.

+hbeezey The Universal-fit Speed-Feed head should work with that unit. According to information from John Deere, it would use the 10mm x 1.25mm adapter which is included in the kit.
