With XPS foam, If you just make impressions into the foam you can make whole wall in an hour. Looks fantastic as it does not take much time and all the tools. You will need pensile, few lava rock (for pressing into the foam), something to measure with and knife. for additional surface texture use fine tile grout (light color - it will allow you to paint it better - brush the group on to the brink wall and wipe with paper towel as needed, let it dry and paint).
"you don't need a hot wire cutter for this" Looks at the 6 stack of foam bars being sliced by the cutter and dread imagining what that's like with a craft knife 🤣
So actually I 3D modelled it and printed it myself:) but if you are interesting in a proxxon guide dungeonsbyhand.com and shiftinglands.com both have great options:)
Why not just use a empty 1 gallon paint can add rocks and foam then shake, keep doing this until you get texture you want , just use smaller rocks with sharp edges 1-1 1/2 inches you want to texture the foam not pulverize it
I use XPS foam and I use Eva foam for brick making. You can make great looking stone bricks/blocks with Eva foam and craylon soapstone spray pain. It really really comes out sexy as fuck.
He's making 1cm x 1cm x 2cm bricks out of XPS isolation foam panels. Recommended XPS foam for terrain building is BASF Styrodur 3000CS because it resists compression better and allows carving fine details with a simple paper pencil. Styrodur can be found in Europe in trade shops but if you can't find it where you live, try getting other brands that manufacture XPS isolation foam panels that are used for exterior and/or floor isolation. They have better compression resistance than interior wall panels.
I got mine from my local lumber yard, and I live in a really small town. XPS foam is a house insulation. Also known as Expanded Polystyrene. Home depot sells the pink stuff (made by Owen's corning), and lowes sells the blue stuff (Dow). I'm not sure who makes the green foam boards.
