It was a nice video, but I have those vents in my house and they are garbage. After the sun beats down on them, the plastic warps and cracks. They eventually begin to fall out of the opening and they look unsightly. In fact, our entire neighborhood needs new vents. If somebody made them out of metal, the frame I mean, I would buy them in a heart beat. Any suggestions.
@travelinghandyman
@travelinghandyman 4 года назад
They are all plastic nowadays LOL. I will usually rotate mine on my house when I start noticing them warping. I only get full sun on one side
@danseman1
@danseman1 4 года назад
@@travelinghandyman That's a great idea, IF it's not too much trouble. I was considering gluing them in position with the hopes that by having them adhered to the masonry might help resist warping. Using those screws can put an imbalance of pressures on the plastic frame. What are your thoughts on that?
@travelinghandyman
@travelinghandyman 4 года назад
@@danseman1 to be honest I don't think that there is a glue out there that will work long term. If you were to drill a hole through the face in each corner and into the foundation you could use Tapcons to secure the vent to the foundation. It will never warp after that
@travelinghandyman
@travelinghandyman 2 года назад
@@dorothymartin8557 if you pre-drill the holes it won't crack. Use Tapcon screws to fasten the vent to the foundation. Wish I had a better solution with a better product on the market. Just haven't found anything like that yet

are theses good vents for cold Ontario winters?
@travelinghandyman
@travelinghandyman Год назад
I would say yes. If you spend a little bit more you could find something made of metal that opens and closes on its own like these do. I live in the south so the plastic ones works great for a couple of years. I'm also looking for a better option

Does anyone know where I can find some replacement screws and nuts that hold the vents in? I went to a customers house and he had around a dozen automatic vents and several screws and nuts were just gone. I think someone before had removed the vents and lost some of the little bolts (slotted on one end and pointed on the other)
@travelinghandyman

Contact the manufacturer of the vents and they should send you the nuts and bolts for free

If you purchase the automatic foundation vents and they do not open and close when the temperatures change then you have a defective vent and you will need to purchase a new one

How long have you been installing those? Are those made of metal? Have you ever had those ones fail? And where did you get them? I put automatic vents kinda like that in from homedepot and they suck. They all stopped working and now I need to replace them again.
@travelinghandyman
@travelinghandyman 4 года назад
The brand I used in the video seems to work for a couple of years. All of them are made of plastic now with metal Interiors. Unfortunately those that are exposed to sunlight directly seem to fail quicker. I also don't like Home Depot products because they are not typically made for a contractor. Haven't been able to find one's made completely of metal or aluminum. I have been installing foundation vents for over 35 years and the products seem to get worse and worse. The vents are used in the video are about the best that I could find
@2bless8
@2bless8 4 года назад
fats and mice can eat their way through that vent. You need a metal vent cover to put over that and screw it on over those. Here's what I am talking about. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AJIrlPqkXMg.html
