From a fellow "dark" designer of metal/punk thingies, thank you for your free goodies pack Ciarán. I downloaded it just for the perfect grimy SHM Siege Engine font, but i now see it has many more valuable items in it. That font rocks man. I had a black metal band as a client, and they had approved everything i made, but asked me if i could find a grimier gothic type font. I was using fonts already available, distorting them and adding textures to show them ideas and they were 90% satisfied with 2 or 3. Few hours back, i send them the artwork with your Siege Engine font and they replied, "we are now 110% satisfied!!" And i didn't manipulate your font at all. Thank you. You rock!
Buddy i am absolutely over the moon to hear that! Really really glad that my font could help you to bring the project over the finish line and lead to fully happy clients! It's an absolute pleasure to help fellow artists make nasty dark artworks and lead to happy clients with gnarly artwork to accompany their gnarly music. Wishing you all the best with your future design work Andreas, keep slaying it dude! ⚔⚔⚔
This is really cool man! would you mind giving out that j-card frame or make a video on how to make your own? I have india ink and calligraphy pens so i already have everything you said you need lmao
Thank you for the kind feedback mate! Yep I actually have plans in motion for a couple of videos detailing my asset making process including some tape/CD/vinyl textures and mockups that I hope you will find useful and be able to follow with the equipment you have. Here's hoping I'll have em sorted and online in a week or two!
@@tylersmith1218 absolute legend! Cheers buddy, I'll keep at it and try keep getting new vids out on the regular 🙏 Keep an eye out for that frames short!
I've got a question: what's your approach to font management? I noticed you're scrolling through fonts using the keyboard, which makes it seem like you've all your favourites bunched together. Is there a system you're using, or have you just being doing this long enough that you know where everything is by heart?
Truthfully, I know most of the classic families that I like to use, but almost ALWAYS forget the names of more niche fonts that I use, haha. Thankfully the latest Adobe CC groups your last used c.10 typefaces at the top of the list for quick reference. However, if I find myself using a new or obscure typeface (outside of the main big popular font families) I usually try to throw a copy of the .otf file into the folder of assets for that particular project. That way if I want to reuse the typeface later down the line but have forgotten the name, I can go "Oh, I used that for the Panzerwar layout!" and then simply go to that folder on my PC and find the font name. Hope that helps mate and cheers for you feedback!
I'm afraid you can't mate - I made that one for Panzerwar. You can however make your own one with India ink and scan it in, it's quite simple and yields great results. Best of luck with it!
hey there, awesome video! helped me a lot! I just wanted to ask what size do you print this out in? whenever i print out my jcards they are either too small or too big for the cassette case. Thanks!
Hiya pal - glad you enjoyed the video! If you check the assets folder linked in the description you will find PDF j-card template that will print out at true size. Just whip up your j-card design on the template in Photoshop and save it as a PDF and you'll be able to print it up easy peasy. I hope this helps you out mate 🙌
@@SpearheadMedia thank you man! This did help me out a lot. Just one more minute of your time tho, i wanted to ask if you know any way to attach the front and back side of the jcards without using glue? Lol im a newbie i know, I just cant seem to figure out how to print a double sided page so i printed them separately and now i have the front and back jcards cut out separately too so im wondering if theres a way to attach them together? Thank you!
@@spectravoid5757 Hmmm that's a tricky one mate! Whenever I made cassette layouts on my home printer I would print it one sheet at a time, and one side at a time. I mark one side of the sheet with a pen in the corner and put that in the printer tray, then print the first side of the jcard, then after a minute or two to make sure it's fully dry, I put the same sheet back in the tray but the opposite way to the side with the little mark on it! That way you're certain it'll print the sheet on the opposite side. I know this way is a bit of a pain in the arse and is very time consuming, but hey DIY or die hahah, that's what makes us punks/metallers! Really hope this helps ya buddy, and best of luck with it
@@becomingad Super glad to hear that mate - I actually designed your logo a few years back, and did some merch designs for ya for Laurent. Did the Thy Will Be Done artwork too!
@@SpearheadMedia I am well aware and have been a fan since haha! Too bad Laurent is no longer a member and moved to Australia, he's a sound dude and super talented!
@@SpearheadMedia great videos but Christ I hate Photoshop, two hours in and I cannot even change the color of anything from white to black....that paint bucket tool doesn't do aaaaanything....keep up the great work!
Ah cheers buddy I appreciate that! By the way, a handy little trick for inverting a white layer to black and vice versa is to just press ctrl+i with the layer selected. Hope that helps mate! ⚔️
